NASCAR Team Owners Say They Won't Tolerate National Anthem Protests

In a stark variation from scenes of protest observed during performances of national anthems at today's football games, the AP reports that no drivers, crew or other team members participated in a protest during the national anthem to start the NASCAR Cup series race Sunday in Loudon, New Hampshire. It adds that several team owners and executives said they wouldn’t condone "anyone in their organizations" protesting during the anthem amid ongoing protests by sports players at football and baseball games in the latest feud involving president Trump, suggesting that this latest form of protest is split along cultural and geographic lines.

Richard Childress, who was Dale Earnhardt’s longtime team owner, said of protesting, “It’ll get you a ride on a Greyhound bus.” Childress said he told his team that “anybody that works for me should respect the country we live in. So many people gave their lives for it. This is America.

Hall of Fame driver and former NASCAR champion Richard Petty took it one step further, and told the AP that “anybody that don’t stand up for the anthem oughta be out of the country. Period. What got ’em where they’re at? The United States.” When asked if a protester at Richard Petty Motorsports would be fired, he said, “You’re right.”

The sentiment, however, wasn't uniform and at least one team owner, Chip Ganassi- member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America - said he supports Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s comments. Tomlin said before the Steelers played on Sunday that players would remain in the locker room and that “we’re not going to let divisive times or divisive individuals affect our agenda.”

The comments from the NASCAR owners come as numerous NFL players and owners took part in protests at games across the country after Trump on Friday slammed players who kneel rather than stand during the U.S. anthem. "Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a b---- off the field right now,'" Trump said during a Friday rally. "'He is fired.'"

Being a libertarian, my take is only that the government doesn't have the right to use violence if the NFL thumbs its nose at Trump, but does nothing else. However, if everyone stops watching the NFL, they go out of business, then its the NFL leadership's fault for being dumbasses for turning a sport into a divisive political rally.

In all honesty, I hope this leads to the destruction of any perceived duty of blacks to serve the Democratic Party. IMO that is where this is coming from.

Finally, I work in the scientific/research space, and for now I'm working on ways to get science and education out of the university, so that we can turn research back in the direction of building healthy communities independent of national hucksters. We each need to be doing something, and not letting the progressives get away with ruining our government, education systems, companies, religion, and even pastimes.

NASCAR is a privately owned organization. The France family runs a tight ship. They know their audience, and what got them to where they are.

To paraphrase Bill Sr ( rip)...

" it's our sandbox, and we make the rules...if you don't like it...find someplace else to play "

Not only is the anthem played or invocation blessing the event, fans and participants starts the show. I'm not a religious man...but I find it very refreshing...and respect those who have those views.

They know their audience. No risks being taken here, just an agenda.Nascar, total 'engine heads', not likely to have sophisicated views of the world, given they have their heads up an exhaust pipe.Whoop dee doo, a bunch of cars repeatedly going around an oval track. Can't see any sense or entertainment in the whole thing. If you think you are 'blessed' to live in the home of the slave, land of the fee, you have to be stupid or insane.

Also, anyone who organizes an event for thousands of people, with live media, knows that you can't have ignoramuses there.

Seems someone is showing his hate for people who live differently, and who occasionally do things out in the mountains that would offend their fragile sensibilities.

I was in no way suggesting that football is a Mensa sporrt, you did that.Televised sports are just distractions.Personal sport is very different, challenging yourself is something everyone should try.I'd agree regarding the fact that Nascar has the redeaming quality of interesting engineering.I think you missed my point, but maybe I wasn't clear enough.

"White people are definitely government cucks. "

"White people are definitely Country/Conititution cucks. "

We don't identify with the government, we identify with the country.

We would like to get rid of the majority of the government.

If you don't understand that, you don't understand the Deplorables

Hey hey, you don't know me. I know more about the banks and wars than you do. I didn't vote for Bush because I Already knew about his crime family.

On the day colon Powell gave his yellow cake talk I was reading the original on the web that he stole it from.

I didn't vote for Obama because I knew he was CIA puppet.
