"A Civil War Is Coming" - EU Commissioner Urges Madrid & Barcelona To Talk

The EU’s budget commissioner has warned of the risk of “civil war” in Catalonia, as fears grew over a looming independence declaration and major banks prepared to relocate their headquarters.

With just 48 hours until Catalonia's Parliament meets, defying Madrid, to debate secession, Gunther Oettinger, the Germany EU commissioner urged dialogue...

"The position is very, very alarming. Civil war is conceivable there, in the middle of Europe," he began.

”One can only hope that a conversation will be made between Madrid and Barcelona soon,” he continued, adding that the EU could only mediate talks “if asked."

The German commissioner’s startling remarks prompted disquiet among EU diplomats. One told VOA he thought the comments "nonsense."

What would Spain lose if Catalonia becomes independent?

Independence for Catalonia has been a long time coming...

As VOA reports, Oettinger and the EU Commission, the European bloc’s governing body, which fears Catalan independence might stir up separatism elsewhere in Europe, have also urged the authorities in Madrid and Barcelona to start negotiations and to avoid further provocations.

But there are little signs of that happening.

Both sides appear to be standing firm in Spain’s worst constitutional crisis since an attempted coup in 1981.

And this won't help...

In an interview with El Pais newspaper that will be published in full on Sunday, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said Spain will exist for a long time and that he won’t allow a declaration of independence to lead to anything.

“I hope that the Catalan political class that was moderate and willing to compromise -- and that has contributed for so many years to our wellbeing and economic development -returns."

So civil war it is?

Catalonians are, essentially, pacifists. They seem willing to take the abuse of the Spanish government to show what tyranny is. It also seems that they wish to remain in the EU, and will bear the abuse to gain the sympathy of other nations.

The Muslim to non-Muslim ratio will make the biggest impact, ultimately.   The debt?    It's a working assumption here on AN that it will be defaulted upon, in real terms.   The big question about the future is who shows up for it.   Spaniards have horrific demographics and look primed to cave to the rise of the more fecund muslims.  This is the material of civil war in Europe.

George soros foundation is behind this movement. Just like how tjere is always a tax free foundation behind every minority movement. Countries are about to break apart as the world centralises. Fingers cross that some how, everyone will realise that royalty is the key to salvation from the nwo. Or better, the American people realise that it is their very nation that holds the real power for the corrupted.

I read that somewhere too. It's nearly impossible to figure out who to root for on anything these days. Like the CIA guy said, the job ain't done until everything people believe is false. It is funny how Soros is another guy that nobody in DC seems to ever talk about. There's something a little wrong about cops dressed in black wearing masks.

I smell a rat here too. The Catalonians obviously deserve to have their own state and have since their inception, but to have this happen at THIS time, along with all the other strife going on around the world?

It seems to me that the PTB are stoking every single point of contention that ever existed between peoples around the world all at the same time, and this is intentional. The ultimate 'divide and conquer' on a grand scale.

The sooner people realize this and start looking at confronting (((those feeding these fires))), the sooner we will ALL be free.

If, with "THIS time", you mean the Trump/Brexit/NK crises right now, I can assure you it is coincidence. The timeline for Catalan secession is much older, it was quite easy to predict years ago. I did so publicly in 2014, but saw it coming much longer ago.The detailed point of time of course depended on factors like election results in both Spain and Catalonia, but I would not expect that the PTB have enough ressources to precision manage those from the distance.

The 4000 most powerful positions in America are held by members of the council on foreign relations. These top positions include government, CEO's, military, universities and even MEDIA. This fact even states this fact on this international organisation own freaking website.

Catalonia doesn't deserve their own state because Spain is one of the most decentralized countries in the world, catalonians have been indoctrinated by their regional government since decades for independence. The REAL reason for independence is that catalonian politiacians are the most corrupt in Spain, they keep their savings made by corruption and stole to catalonians in Andorra, and Andorra will take out banking secrecy in 2018.http://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20160303IPR16944/endin…

There was Civil War "in the middle of Europe" not so long ago, one which saw Germany all to willing to bomb the shit out of civilians in Spain at the behest of Franco. Guernica II on deck.

The reason our Founders clearly stated there would be no alliances with countries of "Old Europe" (or any others) is because those countries always come up with some new excuse to foment war and drag in their allies.

Context is everything:In Catalonia those are Sons of Liberty gathering under the Liberty Tree. And we are chatting under the Liberty Tree.At a dedication of an American Tree of Liberty in 1766...Silas Downer said: "We do therefore, in the name and behalf of all the true SONS of LIBERTY in America,Great Britain, Corsica, Ireland or wheresoever they are dispersed throughout the world, dedicateand solemnly devote this tree to be a TREE of LIBERTY.----May all our councils and deliberations under its venerable branches beguided by wisdome, and directed to the support and maintenance of that liberty, which ourforefathers sought out and found under trees andand in the wilderness. ---May it long flourish, and may the SONS of LIBERTY often repair hither, to confirmand strengthen each other. When they look towards the sacred ELM, may they bepenetrated with a sense of duty to themselves, their country, and their posterity:--And may they, like the house of David, grow stronger and stronger, while their enemies, like the house of Saul, grow weaker and weaker. AMEN The Internet is the Liberty tree  -45-PS: The 45th issue of John WIlke's North Briton said that: "A man is a sovereign unto himself and might only be ruled by his own consent"  And it was America's own Son's of Liberty and representatives of the Iroquois Confederacy, that threw that tea into Boston Harbor on the same evening that the log book of the local Masons reads: "Not enough members present for a quorum"

There will be no civil war unless it is egged on by external forces. I know a few Spanish and Catalan folks, they are some of the laziest, whiniest folks I know, absolute drama queens.
