Lawyer: Monsanto Bullied Scientists And Hid Weedkiller's Cancer Risks

A lawyer on Monday argued that Roundup creator Monsanto hid the cancer-causing effects of their weedkiller and bullied scientists into making claims it was safe. In a landmark lawsuit against the global chemical corporation, the lawyer didn’t hold back in his accusations against Monsanto.

“Monsanto has specifically gone out of its way to bully … and to fight independent researchers,” said the attorney Brent Wisner, who presented internal Monsanto emails that he said showed how the agrochemical company rejected critical research and expert warnings over the years while pursuing and helping to write favorable analyses of their products. “They fought science,” added Wisner, who is representing Dwayne Johnson.  Johnson alleges Monsanto is to blame for the cancer that has been aggressively spreading throughout his entire body.

According to The Guardian, Johnson (also known as Lee) is a father of three and a former school groundskeeper, who doctors say may have just mere months to live. He is the first person to take Monsanto to trial over allegations that the chemical sold under the Roundup brand is linked to cancer although thousands have made similar legal claims across the United States.  This lawsuit focuses on the chemical glyphosate, the world’s most widely used herbicide, which Monsanto began marketing as Roundup in 1974.  The company began by presenting it as a “technological breakthrough” that could kill almost every weed without harming humans or the environment.

Monsanto lawyer George Lombardi alleged that the body of research over the past decades was on the company’s side.

“The scientific evidence is overwhelming that glyphosate-based products do not cause cancer and did not cause Mr. Johnson’s cancer,” Lombardi claimed in his opening statements.

Unfortunately for Lombardi, many studies have shown his statements as fallacious. There is a mountain of scientific data working against Monsanto, including a 2015 declaration by the World Health Organization’s international agency for research on cancer (IARC), which classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans.”  Carcinogenic means “potentially cancer-causing.”

Johnson worked as a groundskeeper for the school district in Benicia, just north of San Francisco, in California. He was responsible for applying the weedkiller Roundup, Monsanto’s glyphosate product to the grounds.   According to The Guardian, lawyers for Johnson showed the jury photos of lesions and rashes on Johnson’s skin after he was regularly exposed to the chemical. Johnson was eventually diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in 2014, at age of 42. “The simple fact is he’s going to die. It’s just a matter of time,” Wisner said in court. “Between now and then, it’s just nothing but pain.”

A strategic corporate document also revealed Monsanto’s public relations plan to “orchestrate outcry” in advance of the IARC glyphosate classification, Wisner told the jury.

Wisner further cited Monsanto emails from decades prior, in which the company was working with a genotoxicity expert who reviewed a series of 1990s studies. He raised concerns about Roundup impacts on humans and suggested further areas of research. After the expert’s analyses, Monsanto representatives began considering finding a different expert and also started working on a press statement saying the product carried no risk, according to Johnson’s lawyer.

Wisner also read documents that he said showed how Monsanto strategized plans to “ghostwrite” favorable research. –The Guardian

The lawyer for Monsanto disputes the claims saying Wisner is “cherrypicking” studies in favor of his client. Regardless of the outcome, however, Wisner said, “so much of what Monsanto has worked to keep secret is coming out.” Hopefully, the public will soon know just how dangerous glyphosate can be so people can be effectively warned before using it.

Start the boycott of herbicides in your own yard. Most ZHers probably live in the burbs. Make sure your yard is chemical free. Then Parent Shame your neighbors into doing the same. Example: "You let your kids & pets play in your yard with all of those poisons? "

If you have the misfortune of living in a place where the HOA does the yard work, threaten to sue them for using harmful chemicals in your yard.

I was under the impression that glyphosate isn't the carcinogen, but instead it is all of the surfactants and other shit in RoundUp are.  Either way, my next door neighbor used to spray the shit out of the stuff, and when he was diagnosed with the cancer that killed him, the docs said there was a really good chance that it was the RoundUp that caused it.

Many farmers are now spraying glyphosate on their grain fields just before harvest so the grain is dryer after harvest which is a convenience to them. That means that anything that has grains such as bread, pasta, oatmeal etc could be saturated with glyphosate when it hits your table.

How would you prevent that "collateral damage" to your family?

I have severely curtailed eating at restaurants because it is nearly impossible to get organic breads or pasta. When I purchase produce, I look for them in the following order:
1. Local and organic
2. Organic
3. Local
4. Conventional when none of the above are available.

Try finding a salad dressing without soy oil. Very difficult. I use either organic, make my own or those with olive oil. Olives have not been genetically modified (yet). Cut out anything with corn since soy and corn products have better than 90% chance they have been genetically modified (and are sprayed with glyphosate).

I once worked with Bacillus thuringiensis, the bacteria from which the gene coding for BT toxin was taken and inserted into corn.

Did you know that B. thuringiensis is nearly 100% identical to Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) at the chromosomal level?  Well, now you do.  Bet you won't see that on a box of corn flakes.

They used to spray B.t. on crops directly.  BT toxin produced by B.t. is deadly to Lepidoptera (moths), as it destroys their intestinal lining when ingested.  This wasn't so bad for people, though, as you could just wash off most of the bacteria, and it is non-toxic when ingested (not so, anthrax!).

But this wasn't good enough for the corporate scientists - why not just take the gene itself and put it into corn? Heck, people's guts are millions of times larger than an insect's, it won't be a problem!  Then we don't have to spray it with B.t., which doesn't make us much money; we will just use a broad-spectrum pesticide that we already make a lot of money on: Roundup!

Well, there was a problem with that.  Actually, many problems.  First, in order to isolate the BT gene and test it, and also add genetic markers to make it easy to work with, they took that gene and put it into Eschericia coli...which is present in large numbers in the human GI tract.  This matters, as I will explain later.

Second, people eat a LOT of corn.  It is the second or third most ingested grain after wheat and rice, after all.  So, people get a heavier dose of BT toxin than expected, as corn is in almost everything in one form or another (corn syrup, maltodextrin, etc.).

Third, nearly all corn these days is GMO.  Very little non-GMO corn is produced in the US.  And, GMO crops are routinely treated with Roundup, which contains glyphosate...which has just been implicated as a carcinogen by the World Health Organization.  Roundup is a pesticide, but it *also* kills other things...such as gut bacteria...

...but, not E. coli bacteria that have taken up BT toxin DNA from food that people eat, for that DNA came from corn that is ALSO resistant to Roundup, and THAT DNA was also expressed in E. coli for study.

So, now you have E. coli bacteria in your gut that: 1. are now present in greater numbers, due to the effects of Roundup on your gut bacteria;  2. contain the DNA for producing BT toxin, which they got from corn and which has ALREADY been shown to produce BT toxin in that strain; and 3. this bacteria is also immune to the effects of Roundup. 

So, now, chronic eaters of corn products have BT-producing bacteria factories in their guts.  And, this BT toxin destroys the intestinal lining, leading to chronic problems as now complex food molecules can enter the bloodstream directly - molecules that are not natural, and which the body determines is a foreign entity that it makes antibodies to...so, now, when one eats corn their body ATTACKS ITSELF.

And, this will happen with almost ANY food that one eats a lot of.  This is the genesis of 'Leaky Gut' syndrome, also known as Coeliac disease, and also the cause of many autoimmune disorders, such as lupus, arthritis, alopecia, etc.

And now this: glyphosate has even been shown to be incorporated into DNA, replacing glycine.  The reverberations from those studies are yet to be fully realized, but it can't be good news.

I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that, but I understand completely.  I had to go through the same process you have.

In 2012 I started having problems with swallowing, and I noticed swelling in the back of my throat and pain after eating.  I went to Kaiser (that's my health plan) and they recommended having a biopsy.  I was going to do that, but in the meantime I had developed a new problem:  every time I ate corn chips, I had skin slough off from the roof of my mouth.  And then, because corn was my main grain since I am gluten intolerant, I started getting massive blood blisters on my tongue within SECONDS of eating anything with corn in it.

I went to Kaiser and told them this and asked for allergy testing, but all they told me was: don't eat corn.  They wouldn't do the testing, and still insisted on the biopsy.

So I went to a naturopath, like you did.  She helped me a lot, got my system clean so to speak, but it was not enough - and I kept eating corn, because no way could that be the problem in my mind.  But I kept having problems.

Then I went to a Chinese herbalist/acupuncturist, and she told me:  eat *only* organic foods.

I did, and within three months, the swelling went away and my throat healed.

At that point, I started researching corn and found out about Roundup and BT toxin...and it freaking hit me like a ton of bricks:

 

The fucking bacteria that I studied, and in fact earned a Master's degree doing so, was a major reason for my illness.

 

I woke up that day. 

 

And may what I shared here, help you on your path.  AVOID CORN AND WHEAT, and processed foods that contain their food derivatives; and if you eat organic you WILL heal.

It's not just that glyphosate disrupts gut flora, which can allow pathogens to gain a foothold. But the glyphosate and other chemicals can destroy the mucosal lining of the entire GI tract, which is the mechanism for EVERYTHING--the mucosal lining is:

  1. 70-80% of your entire immune system and is the border patrol between the outside world and the inside of your body and is the decider for pathogens, toxins, poisons, to enter. Think of it like a tunnel running through your body from mouth to shitter.
  2. It also is your ENTIRE means for properly absorbing nutrition, medications, support, etc.
  3. The gut-brain connection is real. Blood vessels connect the two and gut dysbiosis often also causes psychological-neurological-neurotransmitter issues--anxiety, depression, agitation, brain fog, headaches, general assholieness, etc.

If your mucosal lining becomes damaged, it can no longer provide these essential protective roles for your body. You are S.O.L. It can lead to all sorts of havoc and long-term problems already mentioned. Once your GI starts to malfunction, your immune system wanes, you start getting ill more frequently, are susceptible to more serious illnesses and other health system breakdowns. It's astonishing how connected all of your body systems are to your GI.

For everyone with GI issues, for which a multitude of names and expensive and typically ineffective pharmaceuticals have been developed to address symptoms have been developed--this is called allopathic medicine, which is the foundation of western health care. It means bandaids that underpin the health care/pharma industry racket, not actually heal you and make you healthy again. I can't remember the stats but some 70% of people now have GI issues like IBS, SIBO, food sensitivities/allergies, leaky gut, yeast/fungal overgrowth, dysbiotic gut fora, chron's and much more...

But MDs don't get nutrition education--maybe one or two courses in 8 yrs of school. Most of the time these conditions can be reversed with healing and nutrition.

SOLUTIONS:

Your MD likely won't start here but your FIRST stop is to strip all grains and dairy and non-organic foods from your diet. PERIOD. It's non-negotiable... for awhile. It's not easy but you're all grown up now and can find something else to complain about.

At which point you can start healing your gut. This takes awhile but your body WANTS to heal and it's fairly straight-forward.

Buy organic, non-GMO BONE BROTH (chicken or beef) or make your own w/ organic bones (yes, it's expensive but you spend as much on crap food). Look up recipes. Drink it twice a day.

Try some aloe vera juice (organic, inner fillet)--doesn't taste horrible

Go easy on foods that are tough to digest like high-fiber because your gut is raw+damaged and needs some TLC. When I was at my worst and couldn't digest solid foods--I started with pureed veggies+soups but graduated to much simpler organic babyfood and it was pretty great + simple.

Do this for 2 wks and see how you feel. If you're still struggling, just keep this going until you're better. Don't starve yourself--since you're not absorbing nutrition you probably need to eat more GOOD foods (although it's tough with such a limited diet). Absolutely NO fruit juices (100% sugar). Fruits are OK as long as you don't have yeast/fungal overgrowth--more on that below.

If you're significantly improved, re-incorporate more solid foods and organic and non-GMO grains and dairy but don't eat the same thing two days in a row (this helps alleviate the autoimmune response to the food particles running around in your bloodstream).

Heavy on the veggies and bone broth for at least another couple months. Easy on the grains, dairy and meat and sugar. BTW --your body processes simple carbs (white potatoes, white rice, white pasta/bread) as sugar.

And continue drinking the bone broth - maybe once a week. A 12-hr fast every week (simply stop eating at 7pm, have brkfst at 7am) is good. Probiotics and prebiotics help some, not others (but if you're going to use them, buy quality).

LOW ACID  -  Because of the GI damage the pancreas can stop triggering the stomach to produce digestive acids, which can give you the very same acid reflux that too much acid can... it's a circus and MDs do NOT check for too low acid. When food sits undigested in your stomach, or travels through your intestines not very well digested, it can ferment and you can guess the rest. The best way to test this is buy (quality) HCL w/ pepsin and start taking 1 capsule w/ a meal, increase as the days go until you start feeling too much acid at meal time and that usually means your body has been able to jumpstart it again.

YEAST/FUNGUS -   And if you have ever taken antibiotics for awhile or feel gas and bloating when you eat and other yeast/fungal symptoms (look them up) then look up candida diet and other protocols for rebalancing your y/f overgrowth, which can also produce off-gases like acetaldehyde and other pretty serious toxins. A study was done and found that a person whose body is dealing with y/f overgrowth can trigger the same breathalyzer results as a drunk person. I remember reading a story about a dude who got arrested for this. But look this up - it's a whole other situation that needs attention but the y/f can evolve into hyphae form and literally drill little holes through the mucosal lining of your GI--also causing leaky gut and all of the above. Y/f can be simple or an absolute BEAST to resolve, depending on whether or not it's bad enough to go systemic and it MUST be resolved or your GI will never really heal.

My damage wasn't from food but from either the Hep B vaccine or from tick infections. I had been eating mostly organic for awhile when all of a sudden I couldn't digest solid food w/out serious pain, plus a ton of other symptoms. I won't lie--it took me a year to fully heal my GI. It was difficult and I now eat differently and it's changed my life--mostly in good ways.

Glyphosate is also used as a dessicant - a drying agent - on many grain crops right before harvest because it makes the grain uniformly dry somehow.  It is not rinsed off.  So most non-organic grains have high levels of glyphosate even if they are not GMO. 

Many cases of gluten intolerance could actually be reactions to these high levels.

one thing..im surrounded by corn and beans for 00s of miles in any direction.  I see nearly all beans that are round up ready, to my knowledge have never seen a corn field sprayed with round up.

the Bt toxin or whatever is a pesticide, i get that and can see how it caused the problem.  round up, gpyphosate is a herbicide, right?

 

what am I missing here?

Most corn fields are sprayed early, before or during planting, and then only periodically afterwards if weeds are seen to be growing and only the weeds are sprayed directly during growth.  However, ANY spraying at ANY time will result in Roundup being present in the soil, as it does not break down as Monsanto claims, so anything growing in that environment will contain traces of Roundup.

And BT toxin is now created by the corn itself while growing, since it is now part of its genetic make-up.  Yes, it is a pesticide, and Roundup an herbicide, but both have physiological effects on all living organisms, as the links I provided above reveal.

You cannot post this often enough.   It is most  important to educate the masses about what is being done to them.   What is truly frightening is that this particular genie cannot be put back in the bottle.   Once a GMO organism is  released into the environment it is almost impossible to eradicate and Monsanto is very good at "accidentally" releasing GMO seeds.  GMO wheat showed up in several locations in Oregon a year or two ago and Monsanto simply could not imagine how it had ever got there!

Most people are simply not paying attention and that is why Monsanto has got away with this stuff for as long as they have.

Unlike civilized nations, as in Europe, people there abhor the poisons Monsanto use. Unfortunately, the EU political and financial criminals are starting to use these poisons there. 

 

There is absolutely NO NEED to use these chemicals. Use concentrated vinegar, instead! It doesn't kill bees, birds, squirrels, or any other part of the wildlife.

BULLSHIT. Spraying it on food crops is the problem, NOT spraying it on weeds.

Likewise what's causing antibiotic resistance is NOT giving too many to humans, it is their wholesale use in chickens, cows, etc., to make them grow faster as well as the wholesale and widespread practice of spraying antibiotics on trees and other agricultural crops to prevent bacterial grow that sometimes infect them.

Bayer bought a dud. They must have been embarrassed, too, or they would not have extinguished the monsanto name the day after taking over.

Their marketing in 1974 suggests that they saw the Vietnam Agent Orange sales could come to an end so they prepared for future business. Cancer cases do not matter, we have too many humans on this earth anyway.
