12 American Warships, Including One Aircraft Carrier, And One Israeli Corvette, Cross Suez Canal On Way To Red Sea And Beyond

Tyler Durden's picture

Arabic newspaper Al-Quds al-Arabi reports that 12 American warships, among which one aircraft carrier, as well as one Israeli corvette, and possibly a submarine, have crossed the Suez Canal on their way to the Red Sea. Concurrently, thousands of Egyptian soldiers were deployed along the canal to protect the ships. The passage disrupted traffic into the manmade canal for the "longest time in years." The immediate destination of the fleet is unknown. According to Global Security, two other carriers are already deployed in the region, with the CVN-73 Washington in the western Pacific as of May 26, and the CVN-69 Eisenhower supporting operation Enduring Freedom as of May 22. It is unclear at first read what the third carrier group may be, but if this news, which was also confirmed by the Jerusalem Post and Haaretz, is correct, then the Debka report about a surge in aircraft activity in the Persian Gulf is well on its way to being confirmed. There has been no update on the three Israeli nuclear-armed subs that are believed to be operating off the coast of Iran currently.

From the original article, translated by Google and Zero Hedge:

Shipping sources in the city of Suez on Friday have said that 12 U.S. warships, including a giant Israeli warship, have crossed the Suez Canal in the early hours of dawn on Friday, en route to the Red Sea coast, at the same time as the channel has seen large numbers of soldiers. According to sources and eyewitnesses 'The Suez Canal traffic was disrupted for hours in the morning during the crossing of U.S. Navy, which includes a giant aircraft carrier, soldiers, ships and infantry, armor and ammunition, coming from the Mediterranean Sea on its way to the Red Sea'. The sources revealed that many merchant ships were disrupted outside the channel until the completion of the Navy passage, which observers said was one of the longest since several years. The sources added that the movement of fishing boats in the Bitter Lakes and Lake Gator and navigation between the two shores of the Suez Canal over the Peace Bridge and ferries of individuals and vehicles may be stopped completely.

Egypt deployed thousands of soldiers on both sides of the Suez Canal for insurance; witnesses said 'The Israeli warships were seen among the U.S. warships but official sources have not confirmed the information'.

Maj. Gen. Amin Radi Secretary of the Committee on National Security in the People's Assembly made an exclusive statement to to Al Quds Al Arabi, that the "decision to declare war on Iran is not easy, but Israel was known for her Beslvha and Arabdtha may provide to the war in order to maintain its leadership in the region as nuclear weapons are the only deterrent."

Radhi said, 'should be the scourge of Israel tend to be left a free hand should be forced by the international community to disarm its nuclear weapons before calling for strike on Iran'.  In a related development, the opposition warned from various that the Egyptian regime that allows a repeat of the historica mistake when opening the Suez Canal to cross the fleet-American attack on Iraq in this context, Abdullah said Alsnanwi editor of 'Arab Nazareth' for 'Al Quds Al Arabi' that 'the Egyptians will not stand idly by this time they see the system of government in a major scandal in coordination with Israel and America to open the Suez Canal to attack Iran and Islam." He expressed surprise at the crossing of a huge number of American battleships, along with an Israeli sub carrying nuclear warheads, and wondered, what is the secret channel those huge numbers of warships to the Gulf, and he believed the difficulty to enter the U.S. facing big problems in Afghanistan and Iraq to open a front with Iran.

For his part, the leader of the Brotherhood warned of the consequences of a strike on Iran, stressing that accept the Arab and Muslim world such a thing is unacceptable and should not be silent if the masses bowed to the will of the governments in Washington and Tel Aviv.

The international media has pointed to the direction of an Israeli nuclear submarine model 'Dolphin' carry nuclear warheads and warships to the Gulf region in light of tensions with Iran.

With Iran warned Friday that any act against the interests of the Iranian people, legal and legitimate will result in legal response and appropriate action by Iran, said U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday that U.S. intelligence that indicates that it is likely to possess Tehran the ability to attack Europe ' tens or even hundreds of rockets' taken into account in the Government's decision to modify the Obama system for missile defenses.  The United States has cited the growing threat of Iranian missiles when it announced in September (September) last plans to integrate missile defenses at sea and ashore in the member states of NATO in Europe and around the States in what was dubbed 'adaptive phased approach'. Gates said in a hearing on Congress 'among the elements of information that contributed to the decision to approach the interim adjustment to recognize that if Iran actually launched a rocket attack on Europe would not be just a missile or two or a few. He added, 'but is likely to be attacked with a barrage of missiles because of its potential to deal with tens or even hundreds of rockets'.

We have submitted a query to Hillary Clinton for confirmation, in advance of her meeting with Israel defense minister Ehud Barak, who flew in to the US on Saturday for meetings with the former first lady, as well as Robert Gates and Chairman of the JCS Mike Mullen. And yes, the Joint Chiefs of Staff don't really get involved in high level "diplomacy" all that often.

Update: it appears the Aircraft Carrier crossing the Suez is almost certainly CVN-75 Harry Truman, which until recently was in the Mediterranean according to Stratfor. According to Wikipedia, "the super carrier can accommodate approximately 80 aircraft." For some more curious information on the Truman, click here.

An obscure legislative procedure utilised creatively to regain control over the House of Representatives and the US government democratically!!! They are fucked!!!

Post it everywhere!!! Quickly!!! We need feedback now!!!

And BTW I think this might be it for sub $100 oil... so stock up your near dated option calls and futures longs now!!! It just may be true that the collapse is so unavoidable that they will use this to explain the forthcoming economic implosion!

Expect Goldman to get rich!... Again.

Thanks for the education regarding discharge petitions. As a legislative tool, I think it would serve the right minded politicians well--the only problem as you alluded to is that they are all a bunch of sociopaths. The only time that they (the house) will vote for something good for the people, is when they know someone in the senate (sanders) will derail it. They can look good but have no intention of doing good.

Just saw your post and I like the "idea up your sleeve."  I’m all for it… IMO it would work! and I, for one, am ready to work.  Looking forward to your next move.  Thanks!!

Excerpts:

Let us never forget the problem is that we have a 'two' party system that exists to maintain, protect and service the needs of an Oligarchic Kleptocracy of which regardless of the species of victorious party... remains eternally in their service. And to achieve any meaningful reform my friends we must find a constructive way to transcend these dual impediments and help our politicians do what is just and right. …

Answer    >  A C C O U N T A B I L I T Y

What Sen. Inhofe did in an attempt to remove the power of individual members of congress to vote anonymously in DISCHARGE PETITIONS... in an attempt to consolidate the same power at the leadership (enforcement) levels of both parties by making Discharge Petition votes of public record... can also be used to make these same members accountable to the wishes of "We the People" that voted for them. That is the guts of my plan.

Let me explain for those who do not understand...

DISCHARGE PETITIONS are magical things that can do lots of stuff like bring bills immediately out of committees like the ones Barney and friends like to run with no changes to the Bill.

Hell they can even replace the Speaker of the House. …

To cut to the chase.

We need identify exactly what we need in a bill to make our nightmares go away. We must keep it so simple that even the ill informed public will understand it. It must have only the minimum elements necessary that will remove the corrupt and self serving influence that special interests now have over our government. There must be little that can be objectionable or indefensible. It must be bulletproof.

That is first and foremost. Lets not get too wrapped up in curing everything in one shot. let's keep it simple silly... think KISS.

It must appeal to as many Americans as humanly possible.

It must have an easily supportable name... I don't know perhaps something factual like "The Anti-corruption in Government Act" who the hell could could be nuts enough to campaign against something like that?

Anyway we take that Bill and we promote the shit out of it... post it to every site on the intertubes and try to get as much support for it as we can... if this plan is feasible we will most assuredly find help in the most unexpected places.

Then we take it to the the 2010 MidTerms... here's how. …

Brazil's decision, along with fellow non-permanent United Nations Security Council member Turkey, to vote against the latest United States-led efforts to impose harsher sanctions against Iran on June 9 aimed at stymieing the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, reflects a sea-change in global geopolitics characterized by a decline in US power and the return of multi-polarity.

http://www.economicroadmap.com/2010/06/crossing-a-dangerous-threshold.html

Although it might seem like I'm beating a dead horse with my frequent updates on the troubles south of our border -- see "No Glossing Over This Story," "As Bad As Ever," "Not So Sweet Lies," "Deteriorating Fast,""Failed State in Our Own Backyard?" and "Morphing Into an Economic Problem" -- the reality is that things seem to be getting worse with each passing day. In fact, based on the following Human Events commentary by Roger Hedgecock, "Mexican Drug Cartels Control Parts of Arizona," some would say that events have crossed a dangerous threshold.

The United States is ceding parts of Arizona to the Mexican drug cartels. So says Pinal County (Ariz.) Sheriff Paul Babeu.

In a press conference ignored by the American national media, the sheriff described how his deputies were outmanned and outgunned by the cartel smugglers who increasingly operate using military tactics and weapons. The result, said Sheriff Babeu, was that a wide corridor of Arizona from the border North to the outskirts of Phoenix is effectively controlled by the cartels. "We do not have control of this area," the sheriff said.

At the same time as the sheriff's ignored press conference, the national media did cover assurances from the Obama Administration that crime was down at the border; that the border had never been safer. This ludicrous propaganda was based on selected crime stats from San Diego, Phoenix, Austin and San Antonio. The new reign of terror on the border in Arizona was airbrushed out of the picture.

Here's the real picture Obama does not want you to see. Warning signs were posted this past month by the federal government 80 miles North of the border on the South side of I-8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend urging U.S. citizens not to camp or hike in the "Active Drug and Human Smuggling Area" because "Visitors May Encounter Armed Criminals." Here is a picture of one of those signs:

Think about it. A part of America is off limits to U.S. citizens because it is now controlled by an army of foreigners.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife staffers report that the 3,500 acre Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge in this area is closed to U.S. citizens as well and is "adversely affected" by cartel operations. Where's the Sierra Club?

The border between the U.S. and Mexico is almost 2,000 miles long. According to DEA sources, nearly half of all the cocaine and illegal aliens are smuggled into the U.S. over the 365 mile long Arizona border with Mexico. There's a war going on in Arizona which puts into perspective that state's new immigration law and makes clear that the "boycott Arizona" effort is cartel propaganda. "Boycott" cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco are siding with the cartels.

Someone mentioned those parks were closed under Bush. Either way it doesn't matter our Southern border is at far more immediate risk than from anything across the globe.

The only way to deprive the majority of well-armed Americans is a combination of starvation and threatening their families. Both are easy to do because most Americans rely too much on JIT food markets. And most Americans also are not willing to lay down their lives for freedom. Boiled in a pot. That will change when promises of peace are recognized for what they really are: mass murder. It will be too late for most. There will be no Civil War II. Only small pockets of confusion. They only way to clear out all this gangrene is mass starvation.

Food redemption programs for firearms will be just like the above clip. We are dealing with human nature - not "proud to be an American". Mass murder will ensue as usual.

Bullshit!

All BIGOV needs to do is whip someone like the NRA into agreeing with them. Maybe blackmail a couple of the kiddiefiddlers, maybe just threaten some family members, maybe just buy them the fuck off. Once they start agreeing, once they start warning their members not to act like Domestic Terrorists or outright criminals then the game is over.

Democrats been trying to kill gun ownership because they don't understand it.

If this happens under the great white hope Republican savior during a time of crisis, there will be little protest.

Once they go all MOVE on your ass the next man standing will hand over his weapons and thank big brother for the privilege of service.

Hell they might even give him a shiny little badge to aid in rounding up his brethren.

Republicans get eight to twelve years because Barky just didn't catch fire.

You don't think that there will be either an economic crisis or false flag resulting in the big crackdown during that time frame?

The only difference between legal gun owners and crack dealers is BIGOV knows just where you and your weapons are.

Here dude, put anyone you choose as the Raven, SWAT, Homeland Security ( it might be those Winchester boys though). Cause you know they will come tap tapping on your door.

The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating,
"'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and nothing more."

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
"Sir," said I, "or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you"- here I opened wide the door; -
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore?"
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!" -
Merely this, and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
"Surely," said I, "surely that is something at my window lattice:
Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore -
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more."

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door -
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door -
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore.
"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore -
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning- little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blest with seeing bird above his chamber door -
Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
With such name as "Nevermore."

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered- not a feather then he fluttered -
Till I scarcely more than muttered, "other friends have flown before -
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before."
Then the bird said, "Nevermore."

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
"Doubtless," said I, "what it utters is its only stock and store,
Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore -
Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore
Of 'Never - nevermore'."

But the Raven still beguiling all my fancy into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and door;
Then upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore -
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking "Nevermore."

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamplight gloated o'er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamplight gloating o'er,
She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then methought the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor.
"Wretch," I cried, "thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he hath sent thee
Respite - respite and nepenthe, from thy memories of Lenore:
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil! -
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted -
On this home by horror haunted- tell me truly, I implore -
Is there - is there balm in Gilead? - tell me - tell me, I implore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil - prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us - by that God we both adore -
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore -
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore."
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Be that word our sign in parting, bird or fiend," I shrieked, upstarting -
"Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken!- quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamplight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!

What makes you think you are safe? Are you rich? Maybe a Dupont?

Your tiny little weapons, is that it?

Dude shit falls apart you become a threat because of those weapons. Don't you follow the fucking news? Women, old ladies, children, innocent bystanders, dogs, cops been killing all of them and they were less of a threat than you. And those cops don't even get slapped on the wrist. They get laws to stop citizens from filming them.

Google up MOVE and Waco and Ruby Ridge.

What makes you more special than those people?

Right, fuck war. I met some very nice people from MS yesterday, who specifically asked me what I knew/how bad I thought the oil spill was. I told them that I don't watch the "main stream" news, and get my information from "other" sources. I told them I thought it was bad, and getting worse.

They agreed. People down there are really, really feeling the effects of this spill, and it seems to just be getting underway. It is sad, and if you are living down there my thoughts go out to you.

I can't help but think that this country is generating so much negative karma in the world/universe with our disgusting actions abroad, that we are going to see more and more of this type of "disaster" on our shores. This is not "mythical" or "religious" bullshit, it is simply the fact that the universe finds a way of "balancing" things out.

How bad will this get for us? What is next? We need to stop the hate and killing asap.

Analysis: The American election: America’s President-elect engineered a remarkable rise in his populatiry among Jews with assurances on Iran and Israel:

The Jews set to play a central role in Obama's administration | by Shmuel Rosner |

"All the main candidates for the crucial job of Treasury Secretary, the man who will have to deal with the global financial crisis, are Jewish. They include Robert Rubin and Larry Summers, who both held the job in the Clinton Administration, former president of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York Tim Geithner and even New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is mentioned as an outside candidate."

Euh, FALSE.  They have been giving up land progressively, in successive "land for peace" deals, and what they get for it is continuous build ups of rocket armed hezbo and hamas dead ender fanatics up against their borders, terrorising palestinians and Israelis alike.    Thus the embargo against arms shipments to Gaza.

Bay Area Protesters Greet Israeli Ship

This could be history; a first in the United States; joining actions in many countries.

Just left the Oakland Docks where 300 people are blocking the entrances to two gates into the berth where the Israeli Zim cargo ship is to be unloaded. The action started this morning at 5:30am PST. The longshore workers are scheduled to start their shift at 7:00 and 8:00 am this morning.

When the workers find the way blocked with a labor-community picket they will meet and vote as to whether to cross that picket line. As I left the West Oakland BART station people were continuning to slowly stream in and shuttles were taking people to the picket line. BART will start operating at 8 am.

A live webcast is planned; if it is available it will be seen hereIsraeli Zim Ship Lines Protest Live Video Stream

Not yet. More a case of America showing the Shiite lunatic in Teheran that despite prostrating himself to the Muslim world and extending his middle finger to Netanyahu, America stands with a free, democratic ally. In addition the Egyptians along the Suez and Saudis granting air clearance show the Sunni neighbors are just as worried about the apocalyptic desires of Achmadinejad. More likely, Obama extorted Israel by offering to oppose a corrupt U.N. commission on the Gaza flotilla in exchange for easing Gaza blockade. While this exercise has been planned for months, Obama could have cancelled thereby extracting Israeli blockade concessions. This is the naive game Obama is playing good-cop bad-cop. If it doesn't work the result could be a nuclear war forced upon Israel to save itself. If it works then a peace agreement will be agreed upon. Of course, a peace agreement to the Arabs is simply a time out from their ultimate desire. But, it gets Obama another worthless Nobel. He then can join the elite group of Arafat and Carter.

pauldia,

ANY peace agreement with Arabs, is a loser for Israel.

Any land for peace, is a license to kill for Hama's, and Hizbollah.

Israel (IMHO), has never started a War there, unless provoked, attacked.

Now, how soon we forget, the '67 War.

The spoils of war are just that..............Israel IMHO, has already conceded too much...........what did it get them?.

400+ rockets a day, everyday................so much for GIVING up land for Peace.( and when they have enough, they retaliate, and get smacked down by the Anti Semites the world over).

When are WE (US) going to figure out the goal of Islam is world domination?. I cannot believe people are that fkin stupid.

Yeah, and the Israelis don't operate nuclear subs, either, as this article alleges.  They are German-built "air-independent" boats which can remain submerged for about a week.  Very capable.  Whether the Israelis have managed to develop nukes for their torpedoes and cruise missles is open to speculation but I am willing to bet they have them.

Also, congratulations to Captain Shelansky, who sounds like a credit to the United States Navy.  Getting to be the captain of a CVN is an extraordinary achievement;  the competition for sea commands is fierce with only a few hundred ships and to get the nod for a Nimitz-class carrier means you are the cream of the crop.

As for the assorted anti-semetic trolls who pollute this site--motivated by either blind prejudice or hatred, it is difficult to say which, I would say this:  nothing that Capt. Shelansky said about the security of Israeli in any way compromises his ability to command the Truman.

First, he is part of a chain of command that closely circumscribes his actions.  He is just as likely to have to implement orders he finds objectionable or distasteful instead of orders he agrees with or which benefit Israel in some way.  Anybody who presumes otherwise is ignorant of how the military operates--they are the sharp end of U.S.national policy for better or worse.

Second, Captain Shelansky knows better than most the importance of a nation for a people. Knowing that your own family suffered grieviously at the hands of the Nazis crystallizes his support for Israel.  Why not?  Like many Americans whose people come from "somewhere" or who have affection for some other country in some other part of the world, Shelansky is entitled to his opinions.

Lastly, congratulations are in order to the Navy itself, for having risen above the bitter and entrenched predjudice of earlier days in producing and promoting such an exceptional officer regardless of his religion.

Egypt cant be seen allowing the Isreali navy to transition the canal by Egypt's choice.  Egypt can say that the worlds largest navy just sent a massive group through and Egypt believes that Isreali Navy ships were part of that group.  That way, it was the US Navy that is responsible for the event and Egypt had no control over the event.

The transfer process was very very very safe.  Isreali Navy is not going to get Jiggy in the canal.  If you understand anything about Navy doctrine, you should understand that. The US brought with it more explosive tonnage than the Isreali Navy weights in total tonnage.

I agree with you about the smell of war, and the US election.  I happen to agree that everyone is preparing for the Iranian event.  What you want to do, is follow the number of contractors the US has hired and prepositioned.  They are typically retired US Military, and combat experienced, and can be paid to sit in a field some place and not be missed.

The last I read, the US has upstaffed its contractor levels in Afghanistan significantly again.  Finally, the US has been on a massive mission to replace transports and combat crew vehicles with new generation stuff.  That is the hidden (new) army, that can be put to use where it might be least expected.

The US looks at Iran as a zit.  We have two blocking pieces on either side of it.  Its time to send the Isreali Airforce down the Saudi Air tunnel they have designed, let the US Navy test its new upgrades since Shock & Awe I.

I believe October will be an interesting month in Geopolitics...

so they have been bought off to keep the peace (and are also supporting the embargo).

War this fall?  Barry didn't support the twitter revolution.  I can't figure out what happens after the first round of the air war.  Get one refinery, piss off the population (who maybe were on the side of more freedom), what else?  Then Silkworms and their upgraded sons, Kilos drop a supercarrier in SoH tying up FOUR CVBGs?  Gates and the Commandant won't let that come to be.

Asphalt Volcanism

Gulf of Mexico

Besides asphalt, the expedition found places soaked with petroleum and others with cold, white layers of methane hydrate. Like cold seeps elsewhere on the world's seafloor, all of these localities supported colonies of chemical-eating organisms. Bunches of tubeworms were found growing in and around the tar flows. Apparently something makes the asphalt attractive to life, but no one is sure yet how the biogeochemistry works. ..."

I'm looking into this "super critical water"..."water magma"..wtf.

"...If a suitable passage connected it to the surface — and a salt dome is a perfect example — then this sort of water magma could rise bearing a heavy load of dissolved minerals and hydrocarbons. As the water cools and the dissolved load precipitates..."

 - hmm, very interesting.

Geo-thermal, bitches! We got this whole thing wrong going after oil. It seems to me that oil is like a paradigm we are forcing on the earth, but there are AMAZING forces down there that, if we understood them, figured out what is harm and what is co-existence, we could have all the electricity we needed, courtesy of mother earth. What a bunch of dumb asses we are.

Ms, worth your looking at real experience, SMUD Geo and its operating experience come to mind (work experience).

For example: http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2010/04/smud-to-buy-geothermal-energy-from-vulcan

There is a reason that this stuff is 4x or 6x or 8x more expensive than "real" power plants.  At least you get almost constant output vs. losing 50% of capacity factor with solar and only a band of wind speeds.

Maybe the only place where Ted Kennedy and I agreed was to block the "Cape Wind" project.  Now authorized, it is only estimated to produce electricity at 2x our inflated rates.  Of course, the Big Dig was only going to be $1.5BB when it was authorized.

But geothermal does produce a lot of sulfur.  Now, if it were GOLD!

Well I don't know if you'll come back and read this, but one amazing thing that happens on the seafloor (and on Titan orbiting Saturn) is the creation of abiotic methane, via the Sabatier reaction.

If this were done for fuel we could use the most efficient thermal power systems ever devised, combined cycle, which we already use all the time for regular natural gas.

H20 and C02 to make CH4.  Done.  It's even an exothermic reaction.  But you need pure hydrogen and you need a catalyst, ruthenium or something like that.

Seriously, Sabatier reactors are expected to be used on manned Mars missions to make the CO2 in the Martian atmosphere into CH4.  That way they can bring hydrogen instead of much heavier fuels and catalyze it for the return trip.

I understand why ZH would remove such an assine comment, but then ZH should remove all the replies to such comment otherwise readers won't understand the dialog.

You can't fight ideas with bombs. It's only a matter of time before the knowledge and means to create nuclear weapons spreads throughout the world. If one man in Pakistan can put together a nuclear weapons program, there is absolutely nothing that the arrayed might of the Western Axis can do to prevent that from happening.

If you're going to support an action that puts innocent lives around the world at risk, then you had damn well better be prepared do to die for it personally.

Apostate,

The America as enemy number one is already pretty much the case around the globe, except for the tiny percentage who depend on their livelihood for it.

Indian farmers know all too well that Monsanto and Cargill are American companies.

Also, for the literally inclined, I'd highly recommend Beelzbub's Tales to His Grandson, which, in Gurdjieff's inimitable style lays out why this ever increasing drumbeat is really beyond our control.

Like automatons, come every so often, when big changes are pre-saged in the heavens (where is the SUN???, waiting to exhale), humans, like the lemmings most are, troop to the cliff and jump.

Or in this case, push a few million of their fellow lemmings over the THEN jump. Same result.

And the thinking, pondering ones amongst us, with eyes to see, stare in despair, shout from roof-tops, stage rallies, gnash our teeth and always to no avail.

The coming destructo action was written into the script long ago. We, the lucky few around now, get to watch the fireworks firsthand.

This is OUR trial by fire. All of us.
But we need to be truly awake to even feel the burn.

Amazing time for inner change, I'll tell you that!

No big deal.  My Grandfather died in a concentration camp too.  My parents spent a lot of time and effort finding out exactly how he perished.  Luckily it was quick and painless.  He slipped and fell out of a guard tower and broke his neck.

"It's only a matter of time before the knowledge and means to create nuclear weapons spreads throughout the world"

The knowledge and means is called the scientific method and requires free independent, non-superstitious individuals-in short everything Iranian/Islamic culture is not.  They can only obtain technology by stealing it from such individuals who created it (the American scientists of the Manhatten project).  The Russians stole it from us, the Chinese from them, etc.  To develop atomic technology requires they reject religious superstitutions, toltalitarian government  and essentially become us.  Not likely to happen, and if it does they won't want nuclear weapons any more than the Germans and Japanese do.
