12 American Warships, Including One Aircraft Carrier, And One Israeli Corvette, Cross Suez Canal On Way To Red Sea And Beyond
Arabic newspaper Al-Quds al-Arabi reports that 12 American warships, among which one aircraft carrier, as well as one Israeli corvette, and possibly a submarine, have crossed the Suez Canal on their way to the Red Sea. Concurrently, thousands of Egyptian soldiers were deployed along the canal to protect the ships. The passage disrupted traffic into the manmade canal for the "longest time in years." The immediate destination of the fleet is unknown. According to Global Security, two other carriers are already deployed in the region, with the CVN-73 Washington in the western Pacific as of May 26, and the CVN-69 Eisenhower supporting operation Enduring Freedom as of May 22. It is unclear at first read what the third carrier group may be, but if this news, which was also confirmed by the Jerusalem Post and Haaretz, is correct, then the Debka report about a surge in aircraft activity in the Persian Gulf is well on its way to being confirmed. There has been no update on the three Israeli nuclear-armed subs that are believed to be operating off the coast of Iran currently.

As a legislative tool, I think it would serve the right minded politicians well--the only problem as you alluded to is that they are all a bunch of sociopaths. The only time that they (the house) will vote for something good for the people, is when they know someone in the senate (sanders) will derail it. It must have an easily supportable name... I don't know perhaps something factual like "The Anti-corruption in Government Act" who the hell could could be nuts enough to campaign against something like that?
Anyway we take that Bill and we promote the shit out of it... post it to every site on the intertubes and try to get as much support for it as we can... if this plan is feasible we will most assuredly find help in the most unexpected places.

Right, fuck war. I met some very nice people from MS yesterday, who specifically asked me what I knew/how bad I thought the oil spill was. I told them that I don't watch the "main stream" news, and get my information from "other" sources. I told them I thought it was bad, and getting worse.
They agreed. People down there are really, really feeling the effects of this spill, and it seems to just be getting underway. It is sad, and if you are living down there my thoughts go out to you.
I can't help but think that this country is generating so much negative karma in the world/universe with our disgusting actions abroad, that we are going to see more and more of this type of "disaster" on our shores. This is not "mythical" or "religious" bullshit, it is simply the fact that the universe finds a way of "balancing" things out.

First, he is part of a chain of command that closely circumscribes his actions. Second, Captain Shelansky knows better than most the importance of a nation for a people. Knowing that your own family suffered grieviously at the hands of the Nazis crystallizes his support for Israel. Why not? Like many Americans whose people come from "somewhere" or who have affection for some other country in some other part of the world, Shelansky is entitled to his opinions.
Lastly, congratulations are in order to the Navy itself, for having risen above the bitter and entrenched predjudice of earlier days in producing and promoting such an exceptional officer regardless of his religion.

The isreali largest warship is all of 1,200 tons, the smallest US Navy independant combat ship is around 4,000 tons for context. The US has some small patrol craft, but they are more US Coast Guard class ships.

Egypt can say that the worlds largest navy just sent a massive group through and Egypt believes that Isreali Navy ships were part of that group. That way, it was the US Navy that is responsible for the event and Egypt had no control over the event.
