8,000 Affected By Power Outages So Far In Tristate Area: Watch The Developing Brownouts In Real Time

Tyler Durden's picture

As of an hour ago the official temperature in New York hit 102 degrees: an all time recor, topping the previous 101 from 1957. And courtesy of a power grid in dire need of upgrading and repair, the ConEd outages in the TriState area are starting to trickle in. At last check on the interactive map, at least 8000 customers have been hit with power outages so far. The number will almost certainly rise with as the day progresses and as residents return to their sweltering toaster apartments and crank the A/C to the max.

Readers can keep track of the real time interruption status with the map below.

Just think what the results if 1 in ten cars were electric only!! Imagine commuters to work parking their cars and trying to charge them for the trip home. Whoops, "Honey, I'm stuck at the office because the power grid went down."

I always find it interesting the number of folks who think it credible that a giant oil slick or HAARP facility can cause massive disruptions in the weather, but burning tens of millions of barrels of oil per day won't.  Now I'm not denying that there is an "anti-climate change" lobby that's focused on cashing in, but there's also a "climate change denial" lobby aimed at maintaining the status quo.  I tend to focus on sea temps and the average rise in temps is alarming.

Interesting? Maybe.

People have what I call selective vision. It applies to the mind's eye just like the eyes in their head. They see/perceive what they want to, which is whatever does not disturb them, and ignore the rest.

HAARP and chemtrails and giant oil slicks and a host of other boogie men have the excellent property of being comfortably removed from one's realm of personal responsibility. So given the choice between; A) my lifestyle choices are a problem that I need to address, or; B) someone I'll never meet (or see in a mirror) is doing something I cannot change and that's their moral responsibility not mine, they'll go with Door #2 every time.

This is actually easier to do for intelligent people who stay current on events. They have ready at hand a larger jar of imps and demons to pour out and deride than someone who knows virtually nothing and who is then forced to fall back on that old reliable "tis the work of the Devil!" to get by in like manner.

Nothing changes about the human condition. Nothing ever will. Because nothing can. We came into the world with these limitations no doubt when we climbed down from the trees and we will leave this world burdened in like manner, exactly unchanged. Trees or no.

It is sufficiently disturbing to me that I've begun writing a fictional account of how people really do change. It is utterly horrific, however. The journey to whatever we could have become, given more time, is in my world a long, halting, unbroken nightmare. I am calling it Darkatana: A Black Tale

Sure would be nice to have a bunch of solar arrays taking some of that load off of their ancient power grid, eh?

It would be nice.

If the Nation even had a back bone as they did during ww2 they can easily make it happen. For me a 600 kWh system that is twice what I use each month will cost about 20,000 after tax rebate installed.

Export the excess to the grid for a incoming check each month. What's not to like?

How many of these utilities have residential air conditioners on a separate utility meter where the power company can shut off the power ?

I'm sure some in this administration are working on air conditioning as a government right, along with phone, heat, cable and internet.

I can see the school of the future teaching our children, you have the right to air conditioning, you have the right to cable TV, you have the right to internet service, you have the right to health care, ...

This happens every single year. You think that they would fix this problem already in the most populated city in the northeast.

ConEd is smart though, most of the brownouts happen in Harlem and areas north of 125th Street. Why? Well, those residents don't have to wake up and go to work...

Newbie here, first post. It's about 40F (PNW) and may get up to 60 today if we're lucky. Nice weather if you're a duck lol. Don't think I'd trade it for the heat and humidity though.

p.s. You guys are all insane you know.
