America Celebrates Positive NFP Surprise And Wealth Effect With Another Foodstamp Record

Tyler Durden's picture

As some Americans managed to find part-time and temporary jobs in March, some other Americans dropped below the poverty level threshold. 105 thousand in one month to be precise. The total foodstamp participation in January hit an all time record 44,187,831 according to the USDA. But fear not, here's the bullish spin... sorry, there is no way to spin this.

And while there is no positive spin, here is the negative: the average monthly benefit on a per person and per household basis, has been declining for two years straight and is now at the lowest it has been since April 2009.

In summary: more Americans than ever are living on government subsistence, but at least the amount these people are receiving is the lowest since 2009, or $132.81 per month. Unfortunately, America's attempt to recreate communism may not be working out all that well.

And now back to your regularly scheduled episode of BTFD.

If the Government is telling us that Inflation is low and acceptable than why would the CEO of Wal-mart do this story? Who is in a better position to relay information in real time as to the price of food and every day products for people? The Federal Reserve or the CEO of Wal-Mart? Also, I read that NY times article and it makes no sense why you would even consider Inflation numbers without Food or energy prices included. I guess the rich Fed bakers and bureaucrats don't have to deal with OUR version of Inflation which IMO includes food and energy. They only have to analyze THEIR version of inflation which is called Core Inflation. Looks like IMO they like to cherry pick statistics so they don't have to deal with the real amount of inflation that the majority of the population has to deal with every day. Do you think that the CEO of Wal-Mart is lying? This is the most powerful corporation in the world!

U.S. consumers face "serious" inflation in the months ahead for clothing, food and other products, the head of Wal-Mart's U.S. operations warned Wednesday.

The world's largest retailer is working with suppliers to minimize the effect of cost increases and believes its low-cost business model will position it better than its competitors.

Still, inflation is "going to be serious," Wal-Mart U.S. CEO Bill Simon said during a meeting with USA TODAY's editorial board. "We're seeing cost increases starting to come through at a pretty rapid rate."

I especially like the way the BLBS 'refines' their statistics - when, say, 'rump steak' gets too expensive, they substitute 'hamburger mince', for example. It's all 'meat', isn't it?   In PROPER accounting practice, that would be called "cooking the books", wouldn't it?  (Pun pardon requested.)

So it makes perfect sense, on that basis, to 'exclude' energy costs - after all, how do you replace 'electricity' with some other, cheaper, form of 'electricity'.  Perhaps with 'electrickery'?
