I just had a thought. Does this mean the co-located HFT computers were also having a problem or were they problem free because of their ....er.....location?
None of it's broken they just pull the plug on the hand held devices so the computers that "make shit up" can create the bullshit that the computers that "process real stuff" don't know there isn't any "made up shit" ready to be real. Because you can't sell fiat donuts till you get your 1s and 0 ducks in a row.

I was listening in on the call (which has now been ended after a green status was issued) when "Another One Bites the Dust" started playing!!
Handheld device outtage? Meaning that the guys who use to run around the floor trying to get matches for their paper tickets, didn't receive order flow? They probably didn't even notice. As I understand they pretty much do nothing outside the open and close.

p.s. It's a very nice body movement, good for a mental exercise- down, up and down, poor day-traders. It's time to take a 90 min break & back to the business.

What they are doing now is slowing any momentum that may start to happen. I wonder if it wasn't for this problem, would the DOW be alot lower than it ended today. The saw which way the market was turning and had to stop it, so they "had a problem". You are correct John McCloy, the house of cards is extremely fragile and they are doing everything in their power to keep everybody sailing one direction.
As others have noted,it is highly suspicious that these problems only occur on down days.I have the same problemwith my broker,chart delays,software crashes,etc etc.
But there is no incentive to fix these problems as they help to prevent orders going through on down days and therefore help to prevent further downward momentum.Just remember - you are not allowed to sell.It's the kind of cheap trick you would expect in a third world country,not the USA,but now it happens so regularly it has become the norm.
