this seems very eerily like history repeating itself. Think about the European economy a few years before WWII...

LOL.

For the one or two people who don't know Leeroy, here's an old classic:

Now that I think about it, Obama is more Leeroy than Angela.  He's got more boldness and that audacity of hope.

Gotta love that history of handling important matters, like the governments response to Bloomberg v The Federal Reserve as the Solicitor General of the United States.  Better to get this switch done now or the court will hear the case with eight Justices rather than nine.  Ms. Kagan explains the functioning of the SCOTUS in this edition of School House Rock...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfHOQAT0-Mk

Once the history of Kegan on the court is written I suspect many will wonder if Cas Sunstein might well have been a better steward of the Bill of Rights than Ms. Kagan. A close call regardless.

After Captain Obvious' abrogation of basic democratic principles I think she will be made to walk the plank. What other head of state plays "let's blow up the country to redeem the foreign cheats?"

May 14 (Bloomberg) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that “we’d be in a worse situation” without the European Union and the euro.

Speaking at a panel discussion in Munich broadcast live by Phoenix television, Merkel said that Europe is in a “very, very serious” situation and that success is not yet guaranteed.

Asked about disagreements with EU partners, she said that “some arguments are worth it,” without elaborating.

they always say 'we'll be in a worse situation...'  but never tell what that situation would be ..  it is all to protect the bankers and their fickle political careers.  That is the only situation they are gauging..

Bingo. The parenthetically spoken part is "we'd be in a worse situation because without the bankers giving me bribes-- after I fork over your tax money to them-- the bankers and I would be out of work. The oligarchy would fail if we don't keep pumping it with dough. Worse yet, if you all figure this out, you'd probably flay my worthless Stasi ass alive."

Angela,

Save yourself. Save your people. Save your nation.

Leave the EU.

The PIIGS will just bleed you dry, and then they'll default anyway. You're gonna have to bail out your banks; you can do it now (while you still have some money) or later (after the PIIGS ran off with all your cash)... but have no illusions -- a bank bail out will come. Leave now... before you're broke.

I think we should place a ban on politicians. They make more money than I do in their first year of public service, while they do NOT provide a service to me. They are a bugger to the private sector.

Get rid of 50% of those fuckers and make the world work again. I loath politicians. Spit spit spit. Bitches.

No doubt they do more harm than good.  Then blame the speculators.  This can't end well...even when they do come face to face with a problem, their blame game all but ensures they enact the wrong response.

How many companies are doing that now? Just a few days ago Gilead announced a big buyback of shares, I'm convinced it was to reduce market exposure. I am puzzled why more publicly traded companies aren't getting the heck out of dodge.

With private equity, why would a company even list its shares public and deal with the hassel?  They should just go to the private equity markets instead.

Of course floating stock on the public equity markets (to sell to suckers) in an exit will always be routine occurance.

What is the end game here? My mayor is about to announce a 44 million hole for the year. The County is selling every asset it can to tread water. N.Y state, please billions. The USA, trillions. The World , quadrillions? How does it end? None of it will ever get paid back. The PIIGS should default in a race to the bottom.

Isn't this a little like the Captain of the Titanic stating the ship was in a very, very serious situation after hitting the ice berg?  At this point, it's too late.

I can't see the benefit of German sticking with the euro given all of the dead weight they would need to support.

Falling EUR is great for Germany!

Exports are already soaring, trade balance is blooming and it's easy to pay back debt.

And as an extra bonus you have a big political excuse to cut down fiscal spending, by claiming you have a debt crisis (when in fact it's practically a stronghold compared to US).

Of course, publicly Merkel has to to play the political theater and say they have a strong EUR policy, just like Timmy says about the strong USD policy.

Beggar thy neighbor has begun.

Who's turn is it the next? UK? Japan is already easing.

Then it's China's turn, and then perhaps back to US.

It's deflation-o-rama before we get any more serious monetary inflation in the OECD countries.

Till then, EUR countries give a big thank you to all currency traders.
