Another Ira Sorkin Client Ponzier-Turned-Chef To Cook For Oscars Before Reporting To Prison
Vincent Montagna, who ran hedge-fund Tiburon Partners from 1998 to 2002 before being charged by the SEC for defrauding 70 investors out of $10 million, pled guilty to securities fraud, investment advisor fraud and wire fraud, and who was sentenced to 40 months in jail, is scheduled to start serving his sentence on March 20. The prosecution had been seeking a term of 9 years against Vincent, however his lawyer, none other than Bernie Madoff's defense attorney Ira Sorkin managed to drop the sentence to a little over 3 years. Sorkin it seems has a soft spot for alleged and sentenced Ponzi perpetrators, as the original SEC charge against Montagna was that he schemed to defraud investors by overstating assets, concealing conflicts of interests and diverting clients' money for his own use. Speaking of conflicts of interest, while there had been some recent brief discussions about Ira Sorkin's own conflicts of interests dealing with Bernie Madoff, especially his deceased parents' Nathan and Rosalie Sorkin Madoff accounts, none have yet been uncovered in the Montagna case.
While it is unknown if Montagna shares anything else with Madoff aside from a common lawyer, Sorkin declined to comment on whether the 36 year old ex manager ratted out any other Ponziers to the government in exchange for a reduced sentence. And Vincent is not really getting off too easy: he must forfeit $686,000 and property in Pennsylvania and Nevada, and any future income must go to paying the $7.7 million he owes investors.
Sorkin managed to do an impressive job of letting Montagna do much more while on bail than his other notable client who is under perpetual house arrest. Following his arrest, Montagna posted $300,000 bond and remained free, living with his family in Doylestown, PA. While awaiting his sentencing, Montana was given travel waivers and was allowed to fly to Florida, California Hawaii and elsewhere.
Amusingly, beginning November 2006, Montagna started work as a freelance chef for Wolfgang Puck, demonstrating that even convicted white-collar criminals can get jobs. Vincent was in fact expected to cater an Academy Awards dinner before going to jail. While Vincent was originally supposed to report to prison on March 6, Judge Koeltl extended the reporting date to March 20 so the Ponzier could attend his son's fifth birthday party and cook for an Oscar event.

ok, i just read all these blogs and find the defenders hilarious, especially the last one. how exactly did he intend to "bust his hump" to support his family in the doylestown restaurant when he was about to be sentenced? it doesnt make ny sense.
i truly enjoy the comical statements defending vinnie, especially the last one that cites "rednecks" and "retards." \
i am impressed to read that doylestown is really known for its "rednecks," whatever that is supposed to mean. regardless, in doylestown, we love to pay for $300 bottles of wine at dinner when an untalented name dropping fraud orders it at wolfgang pucks american grille and doesnt pay for it because he "forgot his credit card." we also like to have people open very original new york and LA stlye restaurants, that share the name, decor and menu of a new jersey/ miami franchise named RARE: the steak house (http://www.rarestk.com/). we also enjoy working with people who mock every other restaurant in town because they were "stealing our ideas." that creates a really great local client base when you are alienated and garner a terrible reputation within two months of being open.

montagna relatives sightings in doylestown-
the white escalade that houses the unjailed remamnants of the great chefs family was spotted this week at kmart and pulling out of Burger King on main st.....now that hes in jail, i guess his family cant participate in "bringing a bit of LA and NY to us hillbillies." kmart- that is white trash, not redneck. maybe it is the martha stewart connection that draws them there.
I am Vinnie's Aunt and all I can say is that all of you sound like a bunch of disgruntled ex-employees who need to get a life. You all have too much time on your hands. If God-forbid any of you make a mistake, this is what you can expect from your "friends". Vinnie is paying his debt and he will be a better person when he comes out. aunt bev- we can't say the same for ourselves because we wont be coming out of prison better people, because we did not commit federal offenses are not in prison. fraud is not a mistake, it is a contrived and premeditated offense that warrants more extreme punishment than he recieved. if he didnt do the things that he did in doylestown and treat people the way he did, this wouldnt be happening. i am sure you would love to know some of the other things he did; they too are far beyond mistakes.
