Apple Halted As It Reports $20.34 Billion In Q4 Revenue, $4.64 In Earnings, Big Miss In iPad Sales Expectations
Apple is halted as it beats top and bottom line: Q4 revenue USD 20.34BN vs. Exp. USD 18.90BN, Q4 EPS USD 4.64 vs. Exp. USD 4.10. Margins come weak, but that does not stop Steve Jobs from proclaiming: “We are blown away to report over $20 billion in revenue and over $4 billion in after-tax earnings—both all-time records for Apple.” Looks like ES is certainly not as impressed as the gaunt CEO, as the company undersells iPad by a big margin: Q4 iPads units sold 4.19mln vs. Exp. 4.81mln.

Apple..great company..fun and great easy interface products and a domination of app sales and iTunes however there are alot of considerations .
Their numbers are only and always superb because of the margins they enjoy. These margins cannot continue for all time as the discrepnancy between those with money and those without grows wider.
Expansion costs money.
Google android is the first of many phone competitors. Technology is exponential and the competiton will not many at bay.

Unless Apple launches a Touch LCD and goes after Netflix or begins to work toward a digital film library aversion away from DVDs and Blurays like MP3s I see tame growth.

My problem with Apple long term. What gadget is next? I looked at the new Dell, Sony and HP touchscreen PCS this weekend and they looked alot better and were priced alot cheaper than the Apple stuff, plus they have the touchscreen controls that Apple does not.
I still remember what a bomb quadrophonic sound was (yes, old.) And I see the same thing in 3D TV: one step too far.
Wake me up when Apple brings out one of those Tom-Cruise-in-Minority-Report computer interfaces. If Apple still exists when Google and Android brings those out.

....and the other issue with aapl is their flimsy products...designed to break.
I too have been looking at the touchscreen PCs, however, in trying to actually use the interface, I have been underwhelmed. If you don't touch exactly where you should, the window won't close or the click won't register. I think that there is a mismatch between the high resolution screen and the accuracy of pointing that is required - basically the UI needs to be more forgiving and able to figure out what you are trying to do even if you don't hit exactly the right place with your finger.
I watched this afternoon as a couple of 50-something American chubbies in their t-shirts, shorts and baseball caps, gender virtually indistinguishable, played delightedly with their I-Pad on the BART across the bay.
It's a fucking TOY.

To my memory apple hasn't halted before....when it was reporting blow out blow out earnings.
NASDAQ has been pulling this crap for the last few quarters. I remember AA halted on no news for the last two periods! INTC is always halted....snooze.

This is quite simple, really.
1) French "unrest" leads to Euro selloff and $ strength for the next two weeks or so.
2) Dollar "recovers" back up to 79 or so USDX. Gold and other commodities go down.
3) Stock "market" doesn't drop, however, as Fed/POMO/PD alliance keeps it up through daily purchases of AAPL.
4) Fed now free to announce QE2, as scheduled, on 11/3.

However, other than the coolness factor, what is the real utility, what can you actually do that you can not do on a laptop and it worth the price? Will the tablet product segment burnout like the notebooks did? Will Apple's model of launching buggy minimal feature 1st generation devices fly with mass market? Will this fjukin iPhone make it through a whole phone call?

they haven't really even opened up the markets to China. once Apple widely starts selling its pads out here, those ipads will have blow out numbers. was at a conference in HK last week and every Dick and Jane had one.
