With Apple Representing A 20% Weighting In The Nasdaq, Steve Jobs Better Pick His Words Well Or Flash Crash 2 Is Here
A chart from Bespoke Investment Group demonstrates why Steve Jobs better pick his word very, very carefully. As AAPL accounts for a 20.1% weight in the Nasdaq, and is an HFT darling, as well as having every analyst on Wall Street loving it, should this stock tumble, we expect an 80 point ES drop in the market by EOD.

And it's the whole damn world at it. Of course in some countries such as Japan, teachers can still take a stick to an offending student if said student is texting in class. On the sidewalks of Tokyo and Osaka, however, where bicycles share space with pedestrians, well more than half of the folks---both on foot and on bike---are testing or gaming away on their security blankets. Stop in a coffee shop, and one sees tables of "friends" sitting together, all texting somebody who is not there, or else trying to set a new record on some installed entertainment.
Worldwide, sidewalks have suddenly gotten more crowded (flying elbows) or more noisy, and one person's business, corporate or personal, has become everyone else's, like a gigantic Jerry Springer set. Of course, people fool themselves into thinking they're really more sociable now with all the new technology, "proving" it by noting how many friends they have on Facebook or followers on Twitter ("Feeling down", "Just took a five pound shit").
Okay, guess I'm a Luddite. To each his own. Enjoy.
Gotta go do a five pound......wait, that's of no concern to you!
Now for todays lesson in "What's wrong with this index?"........

Pretty much encapsulates everything I've been thinking/feeling for the past few years. This Iphone deal is just another in a long line of depressingly similar faux "problems" to mask the real ones, the ones that we see but don't want to see.
Sorry, just need a drink and a steak and I'll be all better.
Fucking Iphones man. Jesus.
The only question I have is will the iPhone 4 get me as much tang as my iPhone 3G did?
Totally reminds me of the late 90's. Then it was Dell, CSCO, and MSFT. MSFT and CSCO had 600 billion market caps at one time (so did GE). I tried to explain to people that to experience a Price to sales ratio of 1 to 1 (which I think is generous), they would have to sell $100 of product to every man, woman, and child on the face of the earth! Of course, people would just look at me with glazed eyes.........
@Play It Cool--that is a good question. Let us know. Maybe we could persuade Robot Trader to do a photo essay. You know, for the artistry.
This research is wrong. NDAQ 100 is market cap weighted much more evenly than they claim.
There is genius, or perhaps just good old fashioned greed, in Apple choosing the quick and easy solution. First, the bumper---undoubtedly to be produced in China---will cost them about 3 cents per copy only. Second, and far more important, they can use their time to produce iPhone 5, complete with a better engineered antenna, and the fanboys---who already have iPhones 1-4---will still line up days in advance to get yet another can't-possibly-exist-another-day-without-it device that perhaps does one or two additional needless things nobody really needs in a phone. Marketing and PR wizardry!
Come to think of it, iPhone 5 will do something iPhone 4 is not very good at: make phone calls.
Winner!
