I am Chumbawamba.

I'm not going to really comment on the event specifically.. but just wanted to say that Joe Stack was a customer with us for a long time (over 6 years) and had never had any issues. Always paid his bills on time, always a good customer. I'm still really shocked by everything that happened.

where are the virtual soldiers, hey i am a chick but sign me up.

i am extremely disappointed that the ZH community has obviously paid no attention to this landmark event. oh well i guess it is my problem. probably will seek a website that appreciates the significance of this event

this was written from the webmaster, alex melen, that the FBI demanded to remove mr. stark's website as well as his manifesto from the web. i believe this story is developing because of the legality that FBI possesed or lack of it to have this patriot's website and final entry be taken off line. this is huge loss of our liberties. please understand the power of big brother, wants to control this story. please brothers and sisters understand how this is being controlled to defuse this story.

why, cause it is so fucking noisy on this website.

Gee, FBI, I think this will have the *opposite* effect.

It is possible, however, that they were concerned there was other information on the website that could be evidence of conspiracy, etc.  I can understand a pure law enforcement motive for wanting the site taken down.

But if the motive was to hide this letter, then obviously that would fail miserably.

Ergo, I can't believe that was the motive.

Apparently the FBI are under the impression that this was a possible Iranian attack. They are sure the suicide note is a forgery because it looks just like the work they produce.

Note to Washington: Kindly remove your foot from the throat of the citizens you allegedly purport to represent and place it on the throat of the bankers, regulators, politicians and the rest of your self indulgent whores.

Don't know if anyone here gets The Daily Bell (which I would highly recommend) but this was sent out just yesterday:

"False Flag to Discredit Ron Paul?"

http://thedailybell.com/819/False-Flag-to-Discredit-Ron-Paul.html

"Again, we don't believe necessarily that the powers-that-be are contemplating a false-flag event aimed at President Obama or anyone else. What DOES seem possible to us - and we thank Jones et al. for pointing it out - is that these are desperate times in America. Indeed, a violent act or acts could be committed by a person or persons that could then be linked to the exploding free-market movement in this country, one that includes the Tea Parties, Ron Paul, etc. We hope nothing like this happens. Forewarned is forearmed (with ideas, not weapons!)."

LOLZ...that didn't take long.

I guess too many people were reading the seditious stuff on it.

TF and here have people openly calling for armed rebellion against the government, stockpiling of gold and weaponry, and tax-avoidance transacting.

The only crime committed today was the destruction of such a beautiful aircraft.  I'd give my left nut for an SR22.  If you're going to fly into a building, take a shitty old Archer or something.  I couldn't bring myself to do such a thing with an SR22, be like using a Ferrari as a carbomb

This part probably pissed off the FBI as much as any:

Why is it that a handful of thugs and plunderers can commit unthinkable atrocities (and in the case of the GM executives, for scores of years) and when it’s time for their gravy train to crash under the weight of their gluttony and overwhelming stupidity, the force of the full federal government has no difficulty coming to their aid within days if not hours?  Yet at the same time, the joke we call the American medical system, including the drug and insurance companies, are murdering tens of thousands of people a year and stealing from the corpses and victims they cripple, and this country’s leaders don’t see this as important as bailing out a few of their vile, rich cronies.  Yet, the political “representatives” (thieves, liars, and self-serving scumbags is far more accurate) have endless time to sit around for year after year and debate the state of the “terrible health care problem”.  It’s clear they see no crisis as long as the dead people don’t get in the way of their corporate profits rolling in.

Yeah, and clearly he spent a few years thinking about, because he had tried all the 'proper' legal avenues for years!

The only thing missing was for him to finger the government for intelligence agencies' full compliance on September 11th,  that was the only thing it needed to really get people on the right track.

Sorry people, but according to the diatribe on smoking gun, this guy ended up flipping his lid over a 12K accounting error on taxes, and the IRS called him on it. He had chronic IRS problems from his own failures to do what he was supposed to do.

I understand the guy was angry, but killing innocent people because he has a misunderstanding with the IRS is pretty pathetic.

don't glorify this guy. He doesn't deserve it.

Nice exit for him, but we just get the bills. The law abiders have to pay for banksters, incarceration of criminals, and the demo & rebuild of destroyed IRS buildings, planes, homes.

This is really sucky.

I was waiting for that steel building to implode at higher than free fall speed and collapse into its footprint as well as other nearby structures unharmed, but I guess that only works with higher skyrise types not the pedestrian 3 or 4 storey ones.

Misrepresentation, as I believe it was 12k in unreported income, not a 12k tax bill.  I know you didn't say he owed 12k to the IRS, but your message reads like that is the case.

No one is glorifying any one, he took questionable action, but what cannot be denied is that he took action in a way that would allow his voice to be heard by a wide swath of people.

The underwear bomber was clearly a false flag, why are people calling this one?  I am usually pretty good at establishing the rationale for launching a false flag, but this doesn't strike me as one, at the moment.

For What Its Worth - Buffalo Springfield

there's something happinin here
what it is aint exactly clear
theres a man with a gun over there
tellin me i got to beware

i think it's time we stop, children
what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

there's battle lines being drawn
nobody's right if everybody's wrong
young people speakin their minds
getting so much resistance from behind

it's time we stop,
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

what a field day for the heat
a thousand people in the street
singing songs and a carryin signs
mostly say hurray for our side

it's time we stop,
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

Par-a-noia strikes deep
into your life it will creep
it starts when your always afraid
step out of line the man come and take you away

we better stop
hey what's that sound
everybody look what's goin down

I do think we should pause for a moment and consider what he has left behind. He had a wife and daughter and they will have to live with this the rest of their lives. He won't.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the Stack family.

First, I do not condone what he did.  In reading his manifesto, he strikes me as having some serious psychotic tendencies.

If the FBI simply requested that the website be taken down and the hosting company complied, it is the hosting company that is trampling on free speech.  The hosting company should have told the FBI to pound sand.

There was a case (still ongoing) where the state of KY tried to shut down a bunch of gambling websites and seize their domains as "gambling devices".

The Electronic Freedom Foundation is not sufficient to defend the web in the face of government intimidation and censorship.

There's a lot of anger out there folks:

"A man in Ohio grew so angry at his bank for refusing to work with him to keep his home that he bulldozed it. He told WLWT News, 'As far as what the bank is going to get, I plan on giving them back what was on this hill exactly (as) it was. I brought it out of the ground and I plan on putting it back in the ground.'"

A nutty one. But still a bad-ass.

That's the way to do it. Well, at least he was on the right track. Not like it was some random killing spree, anyway.

Joe Stack was an amateur musician and codewriter.

He fits with Cognitive Dissonant's description of someone whose ego collapsed when he got a glimpse of the world around him. He had not prepared himself by expanding his awareness and then suddenly he percieved things which did not fit with what he believed was the nature of the world. What he saw was a piece of the puzzle that did not fit and he could make no sense of it. He tried to make the piece fit the puzzle but it would not and in his desperation to make sense of the world his mind exploded and he lost his balance.

He saw a black swan. He is a black swan.

Reminds of the scene where Neo learns the reality is not quite what it appears to be.

I am also reminded of something Morpheus tells Neo; People are so intrinsically tied to the world being what they believe it to be, that they will fight, even die, for the very hand that holds them down. Maybe it's time you took a look at the world of the real P^2.

I think everyone should ask themselves, what are you willing to die for?

With the propensity for 'crazies' to copycat such acts, methinks for once, rental for low floor and below ground basement office space will outweigh rental for higher floor offices with a view.
I'm surprised that President Obama (with the Dalai Lama - symbol of peace etc... behind him) hasn't made a speech yet, much like the one made after the loss in Mass.

This entire sad event could have been avoided had the government been more creative and innovative in the manner in which they try to get tax cheats to pay up, especially when the person in question suffers from a mental disorder.  For example, they could nominate him for Secretary of the Treasury.  So far, that ploy has a 100% success rate.

What a joke...the conspiracy theorist go crazy over some crackpot that decided to fly his plane into a building.

I live within a mile (as the the crow flies, OR...in this case, as the plane flies) of that building. You'd think this was 9/11 Part II the way the media (and our Congressman who happens to be up for re-election) are talking this up.

The guy was a serial-loser that probably didn't think he had to actually file tax returns or thought he was "too smart" when he scammed on his tax returns.

Nothing else there...regardless of everything your over-active minds think.

As a first time investor I'm getting completely hosed in taxes due to my misunderstanding of the Wash Rule. Whose fault is it. Is it really mine? I have heard of nothing about a wash sale, didn't even know it existed. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, but if the system is designed to keep you ignorant, isn't it an excuse? Not only did I lose all of my savings in the market this year, I am unemployed and it looks as though I will owe over 5 figures to the gov't. I sure as hell can't figure the shit out (and I'm no slouch) so I am also going to pay an additional arm and a leg to get my taxes prepared.

I am the sucker that they hoped would get into the game and get nailed with the triple whammy; total loss on investments, no loss deduction, and no job.

It is my fault; it's my fault for believing I had a chance in this system.

Yet...at the end of the day you have twisted EVERYTHING AROUND in your feeble brain so you can convince yourself that your simple ignorance and naivete were somehow the government's fault.

People like you are pitiful, self-centered and useless. Do us all a favor and go crash your car into a wall so we don't have to listen to another diatribe about how you were supposedly screwed over through no fault of your own".

Short answer---IT IS YOUR FAULT AND NOBODY ELSE'S...quite flailing for excuses.

First off, you don't know this guys situation so you can go suck a cock. Look, not everyone gets dealt the same hand or given the same opportunity, you are responsible for responding to and dealing with the hands you are dealt in life, but that doesn't mean you can't feel frustrated with some of those hands. Has anyone's wife ever got upset at them for something that was completely out of their control? You still have to deal with the situation but it's obviously going to bring about feelings of frustration.

Sounds like this guy got hit with a wash sale rule he didn't know about and felt pretty frustrated when he found out about it and had to take a financial hit. Add on top of that feelings of animosity over a tax system you disagree with but feel somewhat powerless to change as you are forced to pay for TARP and economic "stimulus" and all other forms of runaway government spending, and the frustration compounds. Then to pour salt in the wound some asshole like you comes along and says "shut the fuck up. You did this to yourself. This is all your fault".

It's people like you that provoke a guy over and over throughout his life to the point where he gets in a plane and crashes it into a building. You don't have to agree with someone elses point of view but people just want to have a little understanding of what they are experiencing from time to time. Put someone in a world full of a bunch of self-righteous pious jerks like you with zero understanding or tolerance of anyone's point of view but their own and you're gonna get blowback reactions like this.

I personally believe in civil disobedience as a way of bringing about change, but this is not the only guy out there like this. This was an expression of the frustration a lot of people in this country are feeling towards a system that is giving them a raw deal.....and they are fed up with it and angry. Not everyone is doing the best with the hand they are dealt, but they are frustrated that overall the hand that is being dealt is getting worse and worse everyday, and there are fewer and fewer options available to handle the situations they are faced with. There is a feeling that fewer and fewer options are available to the people because of the policies this government has pursued over time and the people have disagreed with along the way. So yes, you are responsible for dealing with hand you are dealt, but if you are progressively getting dealt worse and worse hands because of the decisions of the very elected people who are supposed to be acting on your behalf, the frustrations will mount and eventually the anger reaches a boiling point. The lack of understanding from assholes like you is what gets people who are at their boiling point to explode.

One of the most frustrating things in the world is to experience blatant injustice and have someone tell you how fair it is.

Thanks anon. Truth be told, it would really be just a bump in the road if I still had a job, the real irony being that if I still had a job, I most likely would never have taken a shot at stocks in the first place.

Can someone tell me how they learned about the wash sale rule? From your broker, your accountant, from school, or experience like myself?

It's a strange feeling looking at owing this much in taxes, and realizing 'I have no means whatsoever to pay this' (I wonder if Timmy and Mr. O have that same sinking feeling in the pit of their stomach... I doubt it.). It's been 2 years of a downward spiral, and every step of the way I manage to make another bad move. I really wish I could take anons advice and just end my life here and now, unfortunately I am a glutton for punishment and will continue to pay my penance for being poor.

You talk about me taking responsibility, then place the blame of another mans decisions squarely on me and "people like" me; fantastic logic there.

I have accepted responsibility,in fact I stated that the ignorance was my fault. You are obviously someone who has little concern with their fellow man, and when the time comes, let's see who has compassion for you.

When does the gov't accept responsibility for what it has done? When do the banksters accept responsibility for what they have done? When does the church accept responsibility for what they have done?

Answer: They don't.

These tax laws are designed by the very people that prosper from them, and their intent has succeed and I have failed. You can run around waving your finger in self-righteousness.

I played a game that is out of my league, and now I will suffer for a very long time, I guess that's what really makes you happy, you must work for the gov't.

You don't have to agree with someone elses point of view but people just want to have a little understanding of what they are experiencing from time to time..."

FIRST--You are WAY OFF TRACK. This idiot in the plane was hardly provoked. Any "provocation" was brought on by STUPID DECISIONS he made like...

>Claiming his house was a church.

Give me a break here!!....This idiot probably thought he had pulled the wool over on the Feds/IRS through this "you really have to be a dumbass to really think this will work" tax scheme he learned about in California.

Anyone that thinks pulling that crap and not having to at least answer some follow up questions from the IRS is delusional.

I've seen this over and over...people talking about some new scheme to make money, etc and you realize the whole basis of it lies in tax avoidance or untested interpretations of the tax code. Then they act SURPRISED when the IRS knocks on their door.

Next, in order to justify their gullibility and stupidity to themselves they convince themselves that it's really the government that was "out to get them" or somesuch bullshit.

You see, the government doesn't suck at everything...they actually do a reasonable job of chasing down and stopping the tax cheats like this guy that feel they somehow don't have to play by the same set of fairly reasonable rules that most people do.

AND NO...I don't work for any government and never have. I'm just another private individual that is getting real tired of fuckups like the musically-inclined-dude-with-a-plane blaming their COMPLETELY SELF INDUCED PROBLEMS on the rest of society. FUCK HIM AND FUCK YOU (whoever posted that above about "working for the government)

PLAIN AND SIMPLE---The idiot tried to pull a quick one and got caught. If claiming your house as a church doesn't raise a red flag in your own mind that "Hey, this might be a little risky" then you are 100% completely and totally brain dead already.

As for "Mr. Wash Sale" above...your posting seemed to indicate that you were thinking of or already thought that someone else was to blame for what happened. There is only one person to blame and that is yourself.

Yes, it sucks for sure and the circumstances you find yourself in are not enviable. If anything, it would be and to see someone such as yourself fall into the same "self induced" trap that the idiot in the plane did. JUST DON'T and don't listen to the idiots posting here that would have you think that complicated investing tax rules surreptitiously designed by the IRS are really to blame and this is another example of the "government GOTCHA!".

It's not...The Wash Sale Rule is pretty elementary to investing. If you use a live broker they would have known about it as that rule is pretty much drilled into their heads. If you instead used an online/lowcost "broker" then this is a good example of "you get what you pay for".

Still..can't blame you if you don't use a live broker as the vast majority of them have only one thing in mind...THEMSELVES.

YOU screwed up...and you will get through it. You don't really seem to fall into the camp like half the others on here that see the "hands of government" supposedly sneaking around behind them on every street, in every room and in every thought they have. It's the urging of others n here that you need to avoid. You screwed up, seem to at least acknowledge such....just don't fall for the "blame it oin others" BS PLOY.

I type what I feel when I'm typing it so don't take everything in my earlier postings literally (keep your car on the road...you were a convenient comparison to the idiot that couldn't do the same with his plane). Hang in there and keep your chin up....you will get through it fine.

First off, the system is fucked, if you don't want to believe it, then don't, it doesn't change the facts. The system is working AGAINST the people and FOR the corporations. Don't try and tell me this is the way it's supposed to be, cuz that just makes you sound like a gov't patsy, or maybe you work for goldman.

You sound very self righteous as you tell someone to go kill themselves, but I guarantee you would never say that to my face, Ohhhh I guarantee it, although I would love it if you did.

If I had the money to afford one of them there wall st. tax consultants I'm sure I could weasel out of my taxes somehow. When many of the elected members of gov't are shirking their taxes, I'm left holding the bag cuz I don't know how to cheat. I wish I could lie, cheat, and steal my way to the top, but it's just not in my nature and for that I will always be a failure in this system; that is why I'm pissed.

My father is dying of cancer, by all accounts from agent orange while in vietnam. By your logic it's his fault for going, after all he had the choice to go to Canada, hell he even had a choice not to register in the first place. Like wise I could have started dealing drugs rather than trying to play the market, and to be honest, in retrospect, it would have been a smarter thing to do. Because of my father my brother choose not to register, now he's not eligible for any federal student aide, but hey, he's still alive, give and take right? FUCK OFF!

I was raised to believe in the American dream, and if you worked hard, played by the rules, and gave it your all, you at least had a shot to reach the top. These last few years have taught me that it has all been a scam, and the real American dream is who you can screw or step on to get to the top. My naivety was indoctrinated through the school system, and the history that I was taught was all a lie. Who should I blame for that? Myself for believing liars? Perhaps my parents for not catching on themselves? No, it's the system.

As for the home as a church the bible says in the new testament and this is from memory but I can find it... ~Anywhere that gathers two or more in my name there I am. That would constitute a home as a church in my view if both parents were new testament believers. It also says your body is a temple. But the gov't gets to decide how to interpret the bible, regardless of separation of church and state.

You want to rant and rave in the defense of a status-quo because you have much to lose if it changes, that much is clear, what you don't realize is that more and more are being left with nothing left to lose, and that is the problem. I absolutely agree that people should take responsibility, but when the only people for whom accountability is enforced are the second class middle class, we have a problem.

This surprise tax thing is simply the straw that has broken my back, and for that I blame the gov't for creating the system, the banksters for scamming the system and the American people for allowing it to happen!
