Barney Frank On Bernanke: It's Raining Dollars

Tyler Durden's picture

One wonders if Goldman Sachs will use this statement as a way to upgrade either GE or the S&P500 to a 1,100+ target

Frank Statement on Chairman Bernanke

Washington, D.C. – House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank today made the following statement on President Obama’s nomination of Ben Bernanke to serve a second term as Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman:

“I strongly support President Obama’s nomination of Ben Bernanke to a second term as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. On the whole, Chairman Bernanke’s response to the unprecedented economic crisis has been wise and appropriate. He has acted to provide needed liquidity to the economy and has demonstrated that he is fully ready to reverse course when economic conditions dictate. President Obama’s decision to reappoint him now is one more example of his providing leadership the country, and the world, needs as well as addressing the economic situation he inherited. By nominating Chairman Bernanke he is giving an example of the right kind of bipartisanship.”

I can't even read the whole comment without laughing out loud.  I just keep seeing the Saturday night live take on this statement.

Until people like Barney have to answer for their greed and incompetence, this nation can't/won't move forward. And while his handlers and pals are in office, that ain't gonna happen.

Watchout Barney and Chris, if the next election  goes bad for you.

Barney Frank will never lose his seat (elected one that is).  He is a poster child for all that is wrong with congressional re-districting.

+1

Gerrymandering deprives most Americans of any real choice in their Representatives, unless you count the primary prcess.

Case in point - after the 2000 census my home went from a safe Democrat district (unopposed) to a safe Republican district (unopposed, with a very uncompetitive primary). The old Rep kept his seat, they just moved my neighborhood into a new Republican district (maybe we were making the incumbent's district too heterogenous).

It's ironic that the House, which is supposed to be the most representative body, has become such a bastion of incumbency and the Senate races are the only ones in which there's a real contest.

The poor innocent bankers and mortgage brokers. Barney Frank told them to make all those low income loans, and they had no choice.

He is obviously single-handedly responsible for this whole mess.

The beginning is good reading about cause and affect, but the golden ratio is not found until headline "Stabilization--The Rentenmark Miracle", maybe it's a stretch. Give the whole thing a read, ruminate on it, and come to your own conclusion. If you see any eerie parallels between what happened then and what's happening today then you still have a small lump in your cranial cavity called a brain stem.

This may sound like the lone conspiracy nut talkin, but what in the hell is all of this about:

first: BF inherited the crisis from himself (as did Ben).

second: There is a point when most grownups including BF and President Obama take responsibility and stop blaming others.

third: By re-appointing (and if you listen to the tape of President Obama he said "I am re-appointing" - not nominating) Bernanke, the President is perhaps taking that first step towards ownership and responsibility and dare I say leadership, or perhaps he just needs a distraction from the health care disaster.

Whatever, the "inherited" excuse is beginning to wear quite thin. That brings to mind one of Churchill's great speeches where he said:

"I beg to move,

That this House welcomes the formation of a Government representing the united and inflexible resolve of the nation to prosecute the war with Germany (that we inherited) to a victorious conclusion...."

So how's this grab you:

The rumored bank holiday for Aug 24 is one week off. It is looking good for the 31st, though.

Here are 2 peculiarities:

1-Bernanke is reappointed, thereby eliminating a key unknown for a banking system rearrangement. Ben is now with Obama at Martha's Vineyard, for how long, all week?

2-On Calculated Risk, there is a post regarding George Mason University students that they can no longer park in the FDIC garage in the evenings, starting Sunday, Aug 30 beginning at 5:30pm. It appears the FDIC will be working late with full staff, ahem....but starting on Aug 30 does seem a little ominous. Maybe I'm looking too hard for something, but these couple tidbits are making that bank holiday rumor sound more plausible.

What do you guys think? Also makes this extended stock rally seem like the mother of all setups.

and volcker keeps reiterating that lie about the money market funds having an unfair advantage over banks and being a systemic risk.

banks dont have the liquidity/maturity restrictions of M/M funds and are the real systemic risk. all we have to go on is lies, but this particular lie is the most direct evidence i know of that they cant put the wheels back on the banks and will appropriate that huge hoard of m/m cash as a bank infusion and more fractional reserve money supply.

i think i'll turn on cnbc. i need someone to tell me not to worry.
