BREAKING: EU Energy Chief Says Possible Catastrophic Events In Next Hours, Mini Flash Crash Follows
Trust the EU to come in prancing with all the grace of a shroomed up, drunk bull in a nitroglycerin store.
- EU Energy Chief says possible catastrophic events in next hours
- EU's Energy chief says situation at Japan nuclear plant is out of control
As a reminder here is how one says the same, but just a little more diplomatically:
- IAEA sasy Japanese authorities have reported concerns about condition of spent nuclear fuel pool at Fukushima Daiichi units 3 and 4
And the result:
- 18225 reads
- Printer-friendly version

Ironic, this coming from the EU and not a JP official, but i guess go figure.
Japan enacted "Article 15" - their government agencies are now not allowed to give any information to the media. That is why the EU and US must speculate about conditions on the ground.
What is the background of this "EU Energy Chief"? Political figures in high level positions are not idiots: they know their word have weigh and consequences and know how to play it. The question is did he get what he wanted?
in his case you can nearly be sure he just is an idiot...watch a video of him here:

Best line award tho:
Trust the EU to come in prancing with all the grace of a shroomed up, drunk bull in a nitroglycerin store.
Priceless!
Indeed. Hardly ever read an apter characterization of an EUSSR commissar.
How did President Obama do on the Front 9 this morning? Will he need some extra time with his swing coach this afternoon?
honest, i helped out for a while on a boys H.S. golf team. jeepers, these boys all had swing coaches. no kidding. one kid couldn't bend over and touch his toes, but his wealthy ass pilot fighter dad hired a nanny coach for $100,000. a year to wipe the kids ass. oh, he had never been on public transportation before the suburban ride to the event.
outta control now
OOC, bitchez!
Fuck me, but some of you people are morons. I vote we plug the radioactive leaks with some of the stupider commenters around here. Did you get your mommy to answer the CAPTCHA?
++
i dont think stupider is a word, stupid.
66, you better be careful. That's Kiester Soreza you're talking to. We had some guy trying to walk out of here on a drumstick trying to get away from him!
Ben Bernanke paging Sore Keister & Trav7777-
go talk to the EU, tell them it's nothing to worry about
(ps sore, I hear anallube helps)
Something nasty showed up on someones satellite.
++++ bingo
Yep. Mebbe when they went to take a look at the radiation over the plant for the helicopter gig, the rad spike immediately overhead freaked 'em out. That's the problem with our increasingly Ann Rayndized self-serving individualized consumer society. The workers actually don't want to lay down their lives for the greater good 'caus they're all probably missing friends and family in the tsunami, and feel they have more important personal obligations. On the other hand, during Chernobyl some of those Soviet era comrades that got ionized probably had guns to their head. For some I doubt it was all about doing it for the Fatherland.
La Rodina... motherland. Not to split hairs, but Hitler's thing was the Fatherland. And yes, they were led into it with little to no facts. Makes you wonder about this article 15 shit that the Jap govt pulled...
I saw a documentary where they showed how what's left of those poor irradiated bastards are still doing maintenance on site there, working to keep the genie in the bottle. They volunteered after the fall of the USSR to do it, since they knew they were toast and most of what little govt support they were getting dried up.
Heard on NPR - 28 Soviet nuke techs died of radiation poisoning within a month of Chernobyl.
I was just thinking to myself, that SURELY our beloved governments have thermal imaging satelites. They'd be able to tell pretty easily the general temperature of things at these reactors.
Temp high = bad
Temp low = not so bad
So that's what just happened to S & P
US govt bonds just jumped. Because there's no way the CBs are going to monetise this.
Why is this any different than that ... or that ... or that ... or this other that ... or that other that ....
I will gladly pay you $200 billion thin-air fiatscos Tuesday for some debt relief today.
I hear you.
Market sunk quick, something is going on.
True, in unison ... among the vast array of market players ...
Crash Prep.
The Bernank's on the phone to all his Benifactor TBTF Banks right now, warming up the Routers for a few hours of Churn-n-Burn.
Everyone on the forum is edgey, everyone on the markets are edgey too. This'll tank like a MOFO.
Too many fingers on the trigger!!!
i think you got it. no one even considers going long, and cant sit in dollars when the dollar should be rallying its ass off but its only up nominally... scary, there could be nowhere to run. only safety play is physical metals, and shit that wont go to zero. lots of money needs to be created for disaster relief, and we have no idea what else is gonna happen... and disaster relief funds are non productive.
deflation? then theres the Prechter factor. In that case you can sit in cash and watch it all explode. i like this option as much as any.
All that Japanese intervention money gone to waste...
PM's taking a sharp dip as well
And right back up. Oh wait, dipping again. No, wait, back up now......
is that the sound of your penis on viagra? a dipstick.
volatility = uncertainty = path of least resistence is now DOWN
to conceal the noise of an uproaring printing press?
I wonder if it is going to take a full blown nuclear meltdown to get the retail stocks to sell off?
No, just a full-blown dollar meltdown --- which is just as assured at this point as a nuclear meltdown in Japan (to be followed by the inevitable and well-deserved political meltdown).
so they say. but im starting to to think the dollar value is being suppressed; when it should be going up more. you know what that means.... godzilla dollar on tap: and no one sees it coming.
deflation.
You are more likely to see Bigfoot disembarking from a UFO with Elvis and Amelia Earhartt than you are to see deflation under our current, purely fiat monetary regime.
this is about the time when Cramer and the merry pumpers at CNBC tell everyone that this has already been priced in to the market and they should be buying on this dip.
i am become death, destroyer of worlds

But Mathman said the other night there was "absolutely nothing" to worry about!
He misspoke. He meant to say silver is going to $5 in June.
@Bastiat
There will be backtracking, no doubt. What is most troubling is the willingness on the part of some to turn a deaf ear to warning calls. I guess the Pollyanna scenarios of Disney have become ingrained in the collective Western pschye.
Actually it was IQ 145 who said that -- apology to Mathman:

Create demand for Portuguese bonds?
UK Chief Scientific Officer briefing to Tokyo embassy personnel.
Basically, absolute worst case is 30km dead zone. No measurable effects outside of that zone, none.
Right, so there is some sort of magical shield, before which everything within 30km perishes and combusts, and outside of which, there are no adverse effects?
Six reactors and six pools with volatile radioactive waste -- a few hundred feet from the sea.
If/when those babies go, the BP spill is going to look like kids' play.
just an fyi, I think its seven pools total, there is a shared one on the ground per TEPCO data sheets.
Key premise:
A spent fuel fire or reactor core 'event' cannot elevate material over 500m.
Anyone care to comment on that?
Well Jim I don't know if the statement id true but.
It's the only difference I see between Chernobyl and Fukushima.
Chernobyl was a live reactor and I presume that added to the explosive power.
By the by.
As has been pointed out elsewhere the second Fukushima plant (4 reactors) now has a 10km exclusion zone.
It's gonna go too.
Well I can't cut and paste it but a paper on an oil refinery fire in LA describes the smoke plume as being 6,000 feet high at a mile downstream and 11,000 feet high at 30 miles downstream.
From 'Atmospheric Diffusion and Air Pollution' Frenkiel and Shappard, eds.
30 miles, you say? Yah, 30 miles. That's about 50 km.
I think the British Embassy staff might want to get some plume modeling software. The Chief Science Officer was briefed, I would guess, by a nuclear engineer rather than an environmental scientist. They are using the wrong type of event (hydrogen explosion rather than fire) as the basis for their assessment.
Interesting.
Seems to me that they have almost given up on Fukushima Plant 1.
If Fukushima Plant 2 goes I think we are all in a world of pain not just Japan.
I wonder what tipped the EU Energy Chief off? The fact that they tried dumping H2O from a helicopter? The fact that they tried a police water cannon? These actions are like me trying to fill up my car by spraying gasoline on and around it and hoping some of the gasoline gets where I want it to go.
Nice analogy. Don't forget to fill up the glove box.
Desperate men try desperate measures. What I don't understand is why, when they lost all power and were inundated by the tsunami, didn't everyone, including foreign governments, immediately assume the worse and begin rushing in everything they had?
It appears this wasn't the case until late Sunday, 48 hours later. I wonder if the world hoped the Japanese government, excuse me, TOPEC could control this monster. Why they thought 6 nuclear plants, three which were operating until emergency shutdown, could be controlled via a few emergency battery packs is beyond me. And I suspect we will never know the truth.
BINGO!
As papaswamp said above.
"Something nasty showed up on someones satellite."
Sounds plausible.
Very plausible. I'm sure Langley and the DOD have been very busy tasking real time satellite imagery since Friday. The stuff we are getting from Digital Globe is so tame compared to the half meter resolution imagery (some say it's now half foot) coming out of Langley/DOD. One can only assume they are sharing the images with Japan and the people on the ground. Japan is supposed to have their own sat capabilities but I don't know if they have real time.
They know when the firetruck guy gets out to take a leak. Unzipping that lead lined suit must be a bitch when ya gotta go real bad.
CD... if you're in full MOPP gear, you just piss your charcoal lined suit and don't worry about it, or else you end up doing the curly shuffle.
I doubt if this is any different.
the long enough timeline just got shorter
:)
This guy better know what he is talking about or he needs to shut the fuck up.
They just realize its outta control?
Streams and twit feeds, lots of Japanese, but some may find useful

The citizens of the EU will not tolerate such tragic incompetence (if you're going generate radioactive fallout, generate radioactive fallout, not this half-assed attempt, and for God's sake, do it with some panache: http://www1.american.edu/ted/ice/mururoa.htm).
Fear not, I'm sure there are several harshly-worded form-letter statements on their way right to Japan. Right. This. Second. As soon as the girl in charge of the form letters comes back from her second 4-week vacation this calendar year.
600,000 fuel rods on site. When this thing goes critical it will probably cause a 9.5 on the richter scale.
Godzilla! He coming!
Somebody just dumped 40 million SPY all at once.
Risk off!
Just looked at the 5-minute chart. You are correct, sir.
looks like the nutsack fluffed it back up on a few hundred
the roach motel got raided.
This clown in Europe has a firm grasp of what is happening in Japan?
If the government is telling the truth the world is most likely about to end.
This doesn't surprise me. The Europeans have seemingly been far more on top of this and far more angry than their American counterparts.
As bad as things appear to be from outwardly appearances, it's what going on behind closed doors and out of camera view that should worry the most.
Trav777, go straighten this guy out. He sounds like a nervous nellie and a commie to boot.
But this can't be true, can't, can't simply can't I tell you because Jim Cramer told me on Madmoney last night that Chernobyl was "off the table." Ha, ha... what a total d-bag!
Those Japanese with swords start practicing your kaishaku, your services as TEPCO executives and government manager kaishakunin will be needed shortly.
Look what happens when you catch the PPT off guard? Took them nearly 10 minutes to hit their giant buy button. Maybe they are former SEC agents and were surfing porn at the time.
They must be really worried right now because NFLX is still down almost 1%!!!
10 x 2 overlay please.
I posted my little rant on an earlier thread:
"Jesus Christ my head is going to explode! wtf with "we'll spray some water on it in 2-3 days"?!?! Is everyone in charge assuming that the plant gave off a couple radioactive farts that will dissipate into the atmosphere by then and radiation levels will be way down? Seriously, do we not have some bad-ass Hollywood-style technologically advanced suits and other equipment that should be getting dispatched STAT? Are the people in charge here and in Russia and in China, etc. talking on some big red phones and coming up with a plan? Inquiring minds want to know."
So, thank god SOMEBODY said something real. . . now what?
hmmmmmmmm.......
Suddenly that one world government, we need to control all critical resources together, for the greater good, look even the Japanese could not manage this well, see the markets in turmoil (oh th epoor markets, inject something, quick, a trillion here a trillion there)...
suddenly the possibility that this is an NWO push is looking eerily likely.
How do we push back? Because right now, so many flash-points, loaded with all kinds of negative energy, also built up over decades by said one-worlders.
At least we will find out soon enough, I think.

Yes, look for Global oversight being pushed on sovereign developments that imapct worldwide - except in Iran of course. That's the push that comes out of this
QQQ, perhaps the game just got a whole lot bigger than Iran.
The global system cannot take much more strain, any which way, and strains are a coming, I can tell you that.

Meh. ES will be green by lunch.
PPT says Warp 9 "engage"
guys, all you skeptics out there. the fuel rods have all gone up in smoke. its going to be disaster. either a big one or a tremendous one.
And the criminal syndicate Wall Street bankers answer the raised danger of full on nuclear meltdown with, "Equities are priced cheaply on a historical basis" and "you have to ignore the noise."
This as they bolt for the doors, of course.
Banker perp walks. Layoffs numbering 100,000 from the financial services industry. Property values falling in NY, NY. Those would be truly bullish signals. NOT nuclear reactors in flames.
The First Person has taken a well deserved break from his soft-shoe routine in the company of his talented musical industry and Hollywood luminaries.
His trip to Rio will be followed by a rousing talk on health care, energy conservation and the green shoots of the recovery.
Meanwhile the world continues its well deserved journey into Hell.
Yes. He seems to be a Methodist Nero.
It's go time, lost all trading connections during that selloff.
Given the severity, i much prefer the EU version. Guess I'm a bit of a rube to the visigoth.
I pray for the people of Japan.
market looks like a series of quick drops and rebounds ("1's and 2's") that is building up for a bigger sell-off. lower lows and lower highs.
BTW, is the Treasury out of cash today?
yeah, I wanted to ask the same. wasn't it yesterday? what about today? where are they getting cash?
Bernanke pulled an all nighter (like in college) at the printer
'shroomed up' sounds pretty good about now
Uh, there are no Hollywood tricks for this reality. NO majic technology. This melted fuel is nasty, nasty shit. Line of site, it will kill you with ionizing (gamma) radiation in minutes to hours. Some is so powerful that if you tried to walk up to it to grab it, you'd be dead before you reached it. This is not to mention all the nasty shit floating around in the air, which is as bad or worse long term. No we have a full scale Hollywood disaster on our hands without the Hollywood.
Keep an eye on weather/wind patterns. Prevailing towards Toyko is not good news for business.
You have to ignore the noise. I hear they have called the cops and they brought a water cannon. They have the situation under control.
Casual dining stocks are currently sporting historically cheap valuations, and their growth prospects have never been better. I know this because the criminal syndicate known as Wall Street has said so.
Falling futures in Japan mean nothing, and you, sir, are scaremongering.
If that doesn't work they could bring in an LRAD, that should get those anarchist neutrons under control.
No POMO today??? Where's Bennie!
The Japanese government need to invoke the spirit of the "Divine Wind", and ask for the return of the Kamikaze. They need suicidal volunteers to clean up this horrible mess.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamikaze
Obuma, is off to Rio for the weekend..leadership in action..golf & bikini beaches Bitchezs what a useless human.
The Obama family will also take in the sights in Rio. A trip to Corcovado mountain, where the Christ the Redeemer statue stands (France gave us Lady Liberty, gave Brazil Jesus) is supposedly on the itinerary. What trip to Rio would be complete without it? If they do make it to the top of the mountain, they will do so with an entourage of secret service and Brazil’s Elite Squad, known as BOPE.
Yes, the Southern Hemisphere might be safer.
BTF APOCALYPSE DIP bitchez
Jim Asshat Krammer.. Buy, buy, GE stock! LOL
LOL Fucking Brilliant!
No worries, this will blow over soon...
The Japanese Finance Minister should return the favor and say the ECBs debt monetization and debt spending is 'out of control'.
RFLMAO!!
Meanwhile back on the ranch...Liesman can't find his johnson at the urinal
BTF APOCALYPSE DIP bitchez
You are absolutely correct. There is no better dip to buy then one caused by melting uranium rods, and winds that carry radioactive clouds over huge cities.
It really gooses retail sales.
Unless it's a bottomless pit that you're buying into.
you can't trade this Apocalypse

Guenther Oettinger.

Said in November, Global Oil availability had peaked. He's a peak oiler.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%BCnther_Oettinger
Added some colour to the otherwise drab German political landscape.
He called for "stress tests" on nuclear plants yesterday.
Also yesterday, the German Secretary of State Guido Westerwelle used the term "Apocalypse" in a press conference regarding Japan.
Berlin (the Capital of Germany) sold out of Iodide on Saturday.
Either the Germans are hysterical and overreaching on this or they have access to very sensitive intel from Japan.
Germany was and is a close close ally of Japan. There are very strong historical ties between the two nations on a diplomatic and political level that the US will never be able to establish.
Put this into historical context.
I think it's time to panic.
Not gonna happen.
Trust the EU to come in prancing with all the grace of a shroomed up, drunk bull in a nitroglycerin store.
sounds like my marriage. same result.
just marketwatch has this? Source please?
Reuters carry the headline on their rotating banner.
And there are discussions on the Reuters board.
What would happen to the tetonic plates if the plutonium reactor blew up in Japan.
nothing... because it cannot "blow up". It will become an Old Faithful of zooming Nasties with half-lives, but it will not be producing 5 mile wide craters like a hydrogen weapon. Look up Tsar Bomba if you want to read about a real fusion weapon. This has the potential to become a very nasy dirty bomb event, and that's about it... none of that John Woo shit happening today.
quantify: No fission or fusion explosions... just a shitload of heat.
from last night and reported earlier in the telegraph
Im not sure what the financial worry is... BOJ just started their priniting press...so they wont let their market crash....and we know ours certainly wont either...so party on fools!
"EU's Energy chief says situation at Japan nuclear plant is out of control"
So the EU parliament have volunteered him to go and help the Japanese on-site?
First of all this is something most of us have known now for over 5 days. This is what you get when corporate interests influence Governments to lie to protect them and not their people. Same thing goes on here in America on a daily basis, poor decisions are made to protect the Banks and Corporations which will have a negative impact on the American people. Now you have close to 30 million people in very dangerous situation in Japan. They could have made the right decision to have an organized evacuation 5 days ago and would probably have saved alot of lives. Wouldn't you think with all the nuke plants in Japan, a very small island, they would of had a planned strategy for an event like this? Guess not. Now the Japanese people are told to duct tape their windows and stay inprisoned in their homes for who knows how long? I don't think most people realize the impact this is going to have on the global economy. When you have the third largest economy in the world in turmoil you don't try to twist it into something positive in future economic growth and prosperity. When the Japanese people come out of their self made caves and realize the very world they knew is gone, it will not be business as usual. The area will be contaminated for decades and most Japanese people will be forced to re-locate to other parts of the world. Tokyo's vibrant economic contribution will only be something of the past and the impact will be felt across the globe. Furthermore people will see how the citizens have been failed by a government that didn't protect it's citizens in time of crisis and lied for days to protect the Corporations and investors putting their very lives and health in jeoprady. As I sit here and listen to the "Johnny come lately" MSM just starting to cover the long turn ramifications I can only feel for the 10's of millions of Japanese people that will be impacted and hope they find the courage and strength to move forward when the dust finally settles and they are forced to rebuild their lives in a totally new and unfamiliar enviornment.
Thank U. Sounds like the spreading rumours type of news. US T-Bond 30y lost the 150 bp almost. Typical britain shit, sorry.
So far today a few main take-aways.
1. The dip to buy will be after the catastrophic event, not before.
2. If there is a shortage of iPads the world will end.
Long Spam, Short Wasabi.
"Possible catastrophic events in the next hours", indeed!
I don't care WHO this so-called "energy chief" is. He's a damned enviro-whacko ALARMIST!
The experts and the authorities have ASSURED us for many years that nuclear power is perfectly safe, and that should be enough for anyone. But the liberal socialist greenies are trying to turn this into a big thing to scare the herd so they can impose their despotic policies on the USA.
It's just like trav7777 said in #1059186: "the situation on the ground is obviously dire. But, let's just look at some facts...despite 4 meltdowns in progress, we are yet to see a major radiation excursion."
There you have it! The situation on the ground is dire, but the situation on the ground is NOT dire.
Please let's all RELAX, get rational, and return to business as usual.
they bought that dip...they = Fed
anybody offering odds on whether eu energy minister is also a director of a wind power company
The drop isn't a result of the words of a politician. He said it hours ago. Remember Europe is in a different time zone.
This site is losing credibility by the post.

someone check his account to see if he is loaded with ES short.
markets shmarkets gold n silver are still green
politician capitulation = bottom
God, all the yelling during the drop.
We squeal and scream while falling. Wasting time while the bottom approaches fast.
Nuke the damn plant and be over with. Is not one set of Balls big enough to push the button to make it happen?
Maybe they are there to keep dummies like me from getting to a button. Or a sign saying do not push.
Wait for the private jets to start fleeing Japan. That is always the best sign.
Fox New is reporting just that right this very minute. A seat on a private jet out of Tokyo or Osaka is going for $100k+. Probably $250k in Tokyo.
Bilge
Russian nuclear experts declaring this worse than Chernobyl.
The issue are spent fuel rods.
Nuclear waste that's simmering like stew on an open fire.
Anyone still trying to trade this thing up or down or sideways is fucked in the near future.
There's no hedge, no trade, no nothing when the world's 3rd largest economy is in meltdown mode.
Markets Will Crack: Why It Is Not Too Late to Short-http://www.hedgefundlive.com/blog/markets-will-crack-why-it-is-not-too-late-to-short
Oettinger is an old spupid provincial from Germany, is former Ministerprez of Baden-Wu.
He said that w/o thinking as most of the things he ever did. It's actually very funny but he might be some kind of naive provincial and that's why he has been sent to the EU like most of the puppets there. He is known as a useless idiot. He is no professional. I had to laugh hard as I heard the news!
not to worry, just wash some potassium iodine down with a nice single malt
