This means Peter Schiff has no chance now that the deep blue handout-craving Conn will elect another Nancy Pelosi kinda democrook to replace Dodd.

This might be some stumbled upon "strategerie" by the Dems.  Dodd was at high risk of losing his seat, so now they can hand pick a wild card to run based on his/her perceived strengths and weaknesses and Connecticut demographics.  Politics as usual.

It wouldn't surprise me if we begin to see more of this sort of thing as the election draws nearer.  It's a face saver and the democrats are going to need a lot of faces saved.  Soon the term, "pulling a Dodd" will become part of the D.C. vernacular.

One can only hope it's cancer. A fitting end for all these bastards would be a long, painful death while in the midst of their depraved, sociopathic disregard for anyone but their mortal self.

A sense of Justice demands it.

Is it ungentlemanly to hope that some Conn. patriot wears Dodd's skin for a suit and uses his man nuggets for a charm bracelet?

I don't see a lot of antipathy to Dodd. Just another traitorous tool among 535 others. Hard to pick them out of a crowd, really. All their heads on a pike would be too kind for these inglorious basterds.

That would be fine, except one of the more promising anti-corruption candidates out there (Peter Schiff) stood a better chance running against Dodd than he does against whoever will be replacing him on the Dem side in the election. We need people with a certain amount of integrity (and rationality) more than we need indiscriminate replacements.

Well, at least there goes one... There are a lot more left, and more where that came from, etc.

However, as legislative immunity from civil lawsuits expires upon completion of current term in Senate, the question arises as to whether there was ever a successful class action lawsuit attacking and demanding personal restitution for legislative behavior that caused grievous, demonstrable harm.

Hi Unscarred, HNY

I think I'm wrong on this after consideration,  dems now have a better opportunity without Dodd's baggage. As it relates to PS he is a constitutional and  Austrian School guy, maybe counter to CT's overall entitlement politics.

News at eleven...

Wed, 01/06/2010 - 21:21 | 185108 Unscarred

My biggest point of contention with Peter Schiff is that, although he correctly identified the ensuing bear market in U.S. equities (hell, he authored a book titled "Crash Proof"), he missed on every other call and lost upwards of 40% to 70% of his clients money in 2008.

Let's put aside the fact that he grandstanded on every major business news network the world over and stated that he WASN'T wrong on his investment choices (though his clients accounts say otherwise), and that time will be his ultimate measure of success.  Before any meaningful period of time can pass, he announces that he will pursue Dodd's seat in the Senate, effectively bailing altogether on his investors who are still nowhere close to getting back to even. What a guy!

All politics aside (I tend to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative), I feel that there is much to be said for an Austrian School descendant being elected to help counterbalance the left-leaning penchant of Washington right now.  But I see Schiff as an incredible flake, same as the guy who's seat he's trying to win.

And I do agree with you about the Democrats; this may hurt them a bit in the short-term, but strengthens their party long-term.

Personally, I'm pulling for the wrestler.

Prediction:

Democrat majority declines to 53-47.

Harry Reid will be defeated for re-election. He's running behind every potential Repub contender in the race. But, latest rumor here in Vegas is he may "retire" to save face and help his worthless Clark County Commissioner son Rory run for Governor on the same ballot.

Chris Dodd to step aside

Embattled Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D) has scheduled a press conference at his home in Connecticut Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek re-election, according to sources familiar with his plans.

Dodd's retirement comes after months of speculation about his political future, and amid faltering polling numbers and a growing sense among the Democratic establishment that he could not win a sixth term. It also comes less than 24 hours after Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) announced he would not seek re-election.

Unfortunately, this really isn't too much of a surprise.

Without Dodd as a foil, Republicans chances of taking over a seat in this solidly blue state are considerably diminished. Former Rep. Rob Simmons and wealthy businesswoman Linda McMahon are battling it out for the Republican nod but either would start as an underdog in a general election matchup with Blumenthal.

Unfortunately, this really isn't too much of a help.

When the peoples' time comes, no politician that has been complicit in the theft of our democracy will escape detention, interrogation and public trial. No simple act of resignation will provide an escape hatch for them as the peoples' memory is long and its experience to date with these snakes profoundly painful. Dodd can run but he can't hide.

1. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, a$$hole.

2. Nothing's more dangerous than a senator no longer beholden to his special interest masters, er, voters.

3. He and Dorgan know 2010 is going to be a bloodbath at the polls for the Dems.

4. Meet the future new board member of Citi Bank.

I can see the motivation to throw endless sums of money at the problem. Its like putting out a magnesium fire with water.

Men of good will need to be careful of Peter Schiff even though his dad is dying in prison for fighting the illegal Fed.  Peter is a neo-con warmonger, and not a serious strategist.  The Rogue Network types will run rings around him and stampede him into ruinous bankrupting wars.  Don't be seduced by his good words and think he is a great statesman.  I guess he is better than Dodd though.  Hell, I suppose it is almost impossible to be worse than a Wall St shill like Dodd.

Frankly we should be wary of anyone who wants to be an elected official.

But I don't believe he's a 'neo-con warmonger', just judging by his economic position. Warmongering is possible only with the support of the Federal Reserve...without it, the taxation that would be required to fund our wars would make them political non-starters.

Wed, 01/06/2010 - 05:38 | 184066 Renfield

Also, wars don't build up a treasury - they deplete it.

Something Schiff is surely aware of.

Don't assume to much. If Schiff wants to do away with the fed, but is unable to, any war mongering he does will be while the Fed still exists. Simply opposing the fed won't prevent damage done by his other positions that need the fed to exist.

That's right! War began in 1913 with the establishment of the Federal Reserve, overturning in a single blow the traditional peaceful American way of life.

I think George Carlin said it best: Americans can't stand not to be fucking with somebody. If you seriously believe that abolishing the Fed would prevent war from happening, you need a cranio-rectal extraction.

Hardly. He will resurface in a role that cements his already jelling transfer of wealth from the middle class, who incidentally gave him carte blanche by voting for him in the first place, for nearly 40 years.

Retirement for these tramps is nothing more than a transmogrification from visible thief to an invisible one, and even more dangerous.

Better that the cancer he has should take him out. Permanently and painfully.
