Busted: Pro-Mubarak Thugs Are Police Officers

George Washington's picture

Washington’s Blog

It should surprise no one that some if not all of the violent pro-Mubarak forces are plain clothes police officers.

The Guardian notes:

Sharif Kouddous, a prolific Egyptian tweeter and blogger in Cairo, describes "a brutal and coordinated campaign of violence" by the Mubarak regime, in an article posted on Democracy Now's website:

"Suddenly,
rocks started falling out of the sky," said Ismail Naguib, a witness
at the scene. "Rocks were flying everywhere. Everywhere." Many people
were hit. Some were badly cut, others had arms and legs broken. The mob
then charged in; some rode on horseback and camels, trampling and
beating people. Groups of them gathered on rooftops around Tahrir and
continued to pelt people with rocks.

"It's a massacre," said
Selma al-Tarzi as the attack was ongoing. "They have knives, they are
throwing molotov bombs, they are burning the trees, they are throwing
stones at us ... this is not a demonstration anymore, this is war."

Some
of the attackers were caught. Their IDs showed them to be policemen
dressed in civilians clothes. Others appeared to be state sponsored
"baltagiya" (gangs) and government employees. "Instead of uniformed
guys trying to stop you from protesting. You've got non-uniformed guys
trying to stop you from protesting," Naguib said.

AP points out:

Supporters
of President Hosni Mubarak charged into Cairo's central square on
horses and camels brandishing whips while others rained firebombs from
rooftops in what appeared to be an orchestrated assault against
protesters trying to topple Egypt's leader of 30 years. Three people
died and 600 were injured.

The protesters accused
Mubarak's regime of unleashing a force of paid thugs and plainclothes
police to crush their unprecedented 9-day-old movement, a day after the
82-year-old president refused to step down. They showed off police ID
badges they said were wrested from their attackers. Some government
workers said their employers ordered them into the streets.

***

If
any of the violence is instigated by the government, it should stop
immediately," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

CNN writes:

The
United States doesn't know the identity of "thugs" who attacked
anti-government protesters Wednesday in Egypt, but others have
identified them as "supporters of the government," U.S. State Department
spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters.

"This was clearly an attempt at intimidating the protesters," Crowley said.

And Al Jazeera reports:

Protesters
in Tahrir Square shows the Al Jazeera camera the ID cards of accused
plain clothed security (police ID) who came in earlier to create
chaos.

File 4816

This
is just like when the British police attacked the non-violent
protesters led by Gandhi, or the police in towns in the South of the
United States attacked the peaceful protesters led by Martin Luther
King, Jr.

Note: The police were also the ones doing most, if not all, of the looting. See this and this.

I am conservative and I can honestly say that Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and people like them are complete shills. Now weather or not you associate Fox news with them is up to you. But I did not read into that as you so plainly did.

Nice try.

I think most people with an IQ above 70 assumed the "thugs" were the internal security force or police that disappeared a few days ago. It's good to be King and Mubarack don't want to hand over the throne.

Plus our brain trust running  the country managed to piss him off so now he is more determined than ever to stay in power. Good job Hillary and Bammy.

Don't assume.  We do not know.  They could be Muslim Brotherhood.  MB already emptied jails with Islamic terrorists in the past few days.

Obama is close to the Muslim Brotherhood.  All day long you having lying propaganda shit from Anderson Cooper and Amanpour who is a stooge for The MB and Hamas.  They both were attacked with their news team in tow.  Oddly no video from them.  Spin and lies.

I am amazed people posting here would be dumb enough to believe ANTHING coming out of the newsmedia especially serials liars and propagandists like The AP, The Guardian and Al Jeezerah - all KNOWN supporters of sharia and MB.

Assume anything coming from the news media or this "admin" is the opposite of reality.  We read posts here everyday about how we almost all - get it. How we are being screwed by the elites with their fiat.  These are the same people who control what comes out of the media. Wake up.

Feddie, I've got an idea.  How about YOU go to Cairo and tell us what's actually going on.  Not willing?  Okay, then ask one of the Fox newsboys to go.  If the AP, Guardian and Al Jeezerah are not reporting accurately, it will be the scoop of the decade.  Or do you not believe that there is competition in the media?

When GM tells me their Volt is the best, I don't go to some goddam pundit to tell me the truth.  I listen to their competitors.  And then I do my own watching, reading and thinking.  Tell me, what do you do?  Complain that all capitalists are lying sons of bitches and that we can't believe anything they say?

Anderson Cooper interned at Langley as a summer student and appropriately his show is called AC360, suggesting he's going to end up where he starts the story so I agree, take any MSM media (AlJ included...just because their coverage on the ground is better doesn't mean the editors are any different) and put it through the 180 filter.

To be fair, one has to imagine the opposite intent of the message at any time to assist in determining probable outcomes.

It's more complicated than that.

Mubarak offered a regime change, the whole world watching. He promised he'd go, just not right this minute which I fully support. The power cannot simply be transfered.

Think French Revolution, think complete and utter chaos and mayhem and then the dark reign of the JACOBITES!

The Muslim Brotherhood are the EGYPTIAN JACOBITES.

Fuck the whole lot.

I think he meant jacobins, but I'm not so sure the moslem brotherhood is for equality, fraternity, and what was that last one?  However they aren't as bad as some.  Sounds like they aren't all that interested in a real democracy though, but neither was Mubarak.  Not that I really give a fuck what happens over there as long as I get my oil.  And I see the occasional comment that zero hedge has become anti semitic.  I don't know about that.  But I do wonder what Israel has done for us recently?  It seems like we are always the giver in that relationship.

"But I do wonder what Israel has done for us recently?"

Us or everyone?

Well, there was Stuxnet...and a hole in the the middle of the bone dry Syrian desert where Syria had set up an "agriculture station" that was investigating the possibility becoming the worlds food basket...(my ribs still hurt from LMAO on that one)...or intercepting products from that well known world leader in the export of fine, high quality cement, North Korea ;-)

But hey...that well known UN super sleuth, el Baradei, has decided to leave his base of operations in Vienna and in true Inspector Clouseau like fashion get to the bottom of it all again...the rule of law and democracy is in excellent hands with him...LOL.

Oh please - GW references the AP which has zero credibility.  Al Jeezera is marginally better.  The Guardian is a trade unionist paper with Islamofacist tendencies and friendly ties with The Muslim Brotherhood.  All three of those sources are shit.  SilverFiend parrots The State Dept and CNN - more shit.

Did they ask Anderson Cooper who was "beaten up" today by Mubarak's "thugs?"   I am not pro-Mubarak but you are being played by the Muslim Brotherhood and the media.  We have no clue what is going on.

I can tell you how this story will end - the lying media will make Obama into a hero and a sant for saving Egypt.  Just watch.

This is amazing.  People here who correctly realize The Ben Bernank, Geithner, Obama and Wall Street are lying to them every f**king day but accept information from The AP, The Guardian and Al Jeezera as fact?   They are the same people who spew the Obama/Bernank propaganda.

You are accepting these facts from the same shitheads selling you QE, Hope & Change growing economy, decreasing unemployment, Dow 13,000, UAW/GM recovery, low inflation and a solvent Social Security.

Amazing how people easily accept propaganda.  You don't know shit because you are not in Egypt to know what is going on.  Finally - stop being stupid and believing anything ANY news media tells you.

Freddie's use of the word "islamofascist" is really enough.  I really don't think I have to say more than that Freddie uses a meme planted by the Weekly Standard.  AP is far from being credible on its face, but it is still a useful source of general events.  AP is one of those outlets where you have to read between the lines and look for what they don't tell you.  The Weekly Standard/National Review/New Republic Complex, on the other hand, consists of nothing except raw disinfo.  It lies like a politician--egregiously, continously, and relentlessly.  And the term "islamofascist" is nearly exclusively the domain of that complex (and FOX News, although FOX News can be good for some info and can't lie continuously since it reaches a mass audience, prompting me to exclude them from the ranks of the totally useless).

The real world is divided between those who view Islam qua Islam as a threat and those who don't.  These are the legit options, not the weasel hedge-word "islamofascist" peddled by the likes of Jonah Goldberg.  I happen to be among those who don't, since radical Islam is supported by the Syndicate (you know who I mean).  However, I would not have an open immigration policy for Muslems, since there is always the threat that some will actually do what Mohammed tells them to do.

Mubarak is probably shit but this is starting to look like Carter and Iran with the Ayatollah 2.  Obama has Hamas and MB moles all around him.  Anyone here who believes ANYTHING from ANY media source is a fool.  All the US papers are shit except IBD. The best in the Uk is the Telegraph but the Guardian is laughable as is Murdoch's Times of London.  Saudi money is all over the print and TV media.  Don't be a f**king sheep people.

Are you suggesting that after 30 years of authoritarian rule and military domination of his own people Mubarek is somehow unfairly overwhelmed by a few journalists with cameras?  That he is actually beloved by a majority or even large minority of his people who are just too afraid to speak out?  If so, why did those men on horseback today miss the opportunity to give this "silent majority" view to Anderson Cooper?  Why did they instead hit him and his crew?  What exactly is the message there that you find it so difficult to understand?
