C - Still on the NO BORROW list

Bruce Krasting's picture

I checked again today on the status of C and the ability to borrow the stock. No dice. The response from my broker:

There is currently "no borrow" on C common.  After the 30th, when the new shares are distributed, it should return to GC. The last time we approved shares was probably some time in June.

It is amazing that 1.1 bil shares can trade hands and there is no ability to borrow stock in order to be short or fund a position.  As indicated, this should all be resolved by Friday. A bet on 2 bil shares for that day?

It should be noted that for more than a month now the largest private financial institution (by assets size) in the US has had a completely cocked up float in its common shares. Maybe there is something ‘green’ to this. It doesn’t instill confidence in me.

Citigroup 9 dlls in 12 months. How about that. I am long in c at 2,28 average. They will be a money machine on 2010. It will be scary.

No wonder the market is up. I mean come on. Here is how the big boyz play.

1. No financial shares to borrow.ie C.

2. Brokers recalling short positions whenever they feel like it. Handing traders nice losses.

3. Brokers not carrying double or triple short ETF's.

Even a lion is a kitty cat if you take away his claws and teeth. I wonder how long the administration can keep this up?

Still got my 20 dec 11 spy puts. I will ride them till the end.

I'm with you there. Buy all the time you can get, so the shenanigans don't matter. SPY could be 15 by then.

Maybe someone BOUGHT the shares, because the price actually went up during that 150M share transaction at the end of the day.
