And now for something amusing: austerity it seems bites back - while driving on Regent Street, Prince Charles, with Camilla in tow, have been attacked by angry student protesters on their way to the London Palladium for a show. The story is being covered on Sky News. In the meantime, the protests are getting increasingly more violent.
And a photo of the post-traumatic car: definitely more than just "kicked" - yes, that is bulletproof glass that is broken.

My wife wanted a third last year and I told her under no certain terms could I bring another child into this world given the current global systemic disease that has permeated every facet of existence. I'm not at that stage in my life quite yet, though my girlfriend and I do talk about getting married and starting a family in the not-too-distant future. But, my thought is that my ancestors survived some pretty dire circumstances and still managed to bring children into this world and raise them. Everyone is descended from tough, willful survivors. I almost feel like I owe it to those who toiled so that I could live to keep the long chain going. Of course I will do _everything_ in my power to protect and nurture my children once they are born.
I feel the exact same way. I have a daughter who will be two in a few months. I worry not for myself, but for her.

In fact Harry, from what I saw on the BBC and from the first hand comentary via mobile phone that I recieved from an ex militant student (now major bank securitisation MD, lovely irony) the demonstrations were large,well organised and violent. The police were struggling and will not look good in tomorrows news papers. Of course there is always an element within these demonstartions that are there for a street brawl and a fight with the police, and this one was no different. But my personal commentator made the observation that the vast majority were indeed students and in his words were `getting a taste for this`. Bear in mind that the Lib Dem manifesto pledged `no tuition fees` and tonight they voted for tuition fees. The level of damage and the sparking issue today: tuition hikes, is not at all the point. The American Revolution was sparked by a similarly small rise in another tax, and the initial response may have seemed quaint: the Tea Party.
Those two led to 8 years of bloody war. Despite seeming hopeless.
The point: economic injustice alone can spark off the passions that lead to grand conflict, violence and revolt. Each side later tries to tie this into overarching issues of the day: Democracy, Empire, the Rights of Man, or anti-Globalism, Banksterism, the State versus the Individual.
This year we've witnessed escalating protest and violence throughout the world: THailand was first, Greece was next, France, Ireland now England. Operation Pay Back is another part of it, a big part.
It's here. It's growing. The opposition to economic totalitarianism. Some issue like tuition hikes or pensions will spark it and then more will follow through because the cycle of anger doesn't end and the global banking cartel will not back down.
In some ways the stock rally, paid for by the Fed, subsidized by citizens, was the worst thing that could happen. It brings to light too many stark realities: the Housing Double Dip is accelerating according to figures released today. Just look to the California state school systems raising tuition rates at 10% plus per year. Some minor demonstrations and complaints, but everyone just bent over and took it up the ass.
Of course what most people/sheepies don't get is the damage has already been done via the fact that the government decided how best capital should be deployed. Rather than in education, innovation, and the entrepreneur (which will create the next great growth stories including jobs), its in wars, overpriced real estate, overpaid government employees, failed business models (e.g., GM and AIG), and the banks. Everyone needs to understand that for the masses, capital allocation has been socialized as not a mortgage is getting done or a small business loan funded without government support.
So the brilliance of the leaders of the Western Economies/Governments has been to starve the economy of the most critical requirement of a capitalist system to succeed - CAPITAL, including monetary and more importantly, educational/intellectual. Or in other words, they have killed the goose that lays the golden eggs here in the US.
What did Dennis Hopper say in the movie Flash Back with Kiefer Sutherland - "We need you know more than ever as the 90's are going to make the 60's look like the 50's" (or something like this). Although this didn't happen in the 90's, it's just been delayed by about 20 years but the foundation has been laid and the fact that they would even approach/touch the Prince's auto tells the entire story. The masses have had enough and they've held their emotions and anger in check long enough. The events in Ireland, France, England (today), etc. are just the tip of the iceberg as the next decade will see Dennis Hopper's statement come true.
