In the first quarter, the US economy grew by 3.7%, revised up from an originally reported 2.7% increase. But growth estimates all the way back to the start of 2007 were revised lower. Moreover, the level of real GDP in Q1 was revised down by $100 billion. Does this mean the secular bull market in bonds will continue? And are Treasuries the "last diversifier left"?

The Japanese economy operates on the assumption, soon to be proved false, that the government will always be able to borrow at low interest rates. As internal demand evaporates, the government will have to start hawking its debt outside Japan — in a more realistic world, where interest rates are a lot higher.

CDS Speculators May Or May Not Be Cause For Riots In Greece To Turn Violent

Yep. There has never, ever been a successful revolution or uprising the the U.S.'s entire history after the first one from Britain.

The Feds have got it down pat when it comes to troublemakers.

The standard operating procedure for the past 50 years has been to let an area riot for several days. By the time the National Guard comes in, the natives are happy to see them.

You have to admit, this works pretty well for the Feds. Sucks to be caught up in it. But that's what you get if you're not one of the boyz.

In addition to the consent engineering aspects, imagine - government workers and unions rioting against government austerity... yes, that would generate boundless public sympathy in America.

The actual outcome would be, we would say "Wow, the entire DHS went on strike and I didn't even know anything happened!"

That is strange indeed. When you realize that the police has also joined the strike.

All government employees against the riot police, which are also government employees.

That tells me that the rioters are actually anarchists as it has been proven, over and over again in Greek rioting. They actually have their own political party.

While the images are haunting, the reality is that most Greeks support the austerity measures and realize the gig is up. Private businesses in Athens opened up shop today (don't know why) as many need to work to feed their family. Public sector workers are on strike but what are they trying to prove? Are they mad at the socialist government? At the bankers? At Wall Street? At Germany? What???

I'll say this much for Greeks (and other Euopeans), unlike Canadian and US citizens, which are lobotomized by MSM, they have no problems protesting when they feel they're getting screwed. You'll never see that type of rioting in Ottawa or Washington. People here are like passive puppets.

Can't argue with you there, Leo--the US authorities would be seriously unnerved by a true street riot.  American protesters, if they could ever be aroused, would likely be far more violent than the Europeans, for whom demonstrating is a type of game for both sides.

The American authorities would inevitably over-react, and there would be casualties, a bloody mess.

It'll happen, and so will all sorts of other things US society has no real experience with.

Are you forgetting the Rodney King riots?

All it took in that case was one police beating to light up LA and several other major cities.

There were the WTO protests in Seattle, too (the "Battle for Seattle"), in which the leftist/anarchist thugs provoked the police into overreaction with violence and then smashed up the city when the police finally had to break out the tear gas.

April 26th, 1992,
there was a riot on the streets,
tell me where were you?
You were sittin' home watchin' your TV,
while I was paticipatin' in some anarchy.

First spot we hit it was my liqour store.
I finally got all that alcohol I can't afford.
With red lights flashin' time to retire,
And then we turned that liquor store into a structure fire.

Next stop we hit it was the music shop,
It only took one brick to make that window drop.
Finally we got our own p.a.
Where do you think I got this guitar that you're hearing today?
Hey!

Greece has plenty of homegrown anarcho-hoodlums, too. Here they are rioting in late 2008, over non-economic grievances:

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/2008/1208/p06s02-wogn.html

"Greece's worst rioting in years erupted late Saturday night after an Athens policeman shot and killed a teenage boy in a central neighborhood known as the base of anarchist and other antiestablishment groups.

By Sunday morning, with the riots continuing, a trail of devastation had been blazed across central Athens – with the stench of tear gas and smoke from charred vehicles and buildings hanging over parts of the ancient city. The violence quickly spread to other parts of the country, including Greece's second-city, Thessaloniki, and the vacation islands of Crete and Corfu.

[...]

The last fatal police shooting of a minor in Greece, in 1985, sparked months of nearly daily clashes between police and anarchists. The terrorist group November 17 also bombed a bus full of riot police in retaliation, Kiesling says."

Anarkismo.net : 22.8% of visitors are from Greece.

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/anarkismo.net#demographics

An anarchist perspective on Greece:

"Greece before the war [WW2] was a country ripe for social change with a small percentage holding most of the land and industry, major industries being foreign owned and a debt 150% of the annual national revenue. The allies released this and their major purpose after German withdrawal was to prevent any social revolution. Luckily they had Stalin on their side, at Yalta it had been agreed that Greece would be in the British sphere of influence.

The British forces re-activated the various forms of local authority set up by the Nazis with local fascist support. At the same time Papandreou forbade the ELAS from entering Athens and on 30th October declared EAM disbanded. All arms were ordered to be surrendered by December 10th.

Within days Athens saw a mass demonstration against the governments re-imposition of the old order and on 3rd November it was reported that 2000 textile workers had taken over their factory and appointed a management committee. It is difficult to access the extent of this movement now as everybody including the KKE deny it.

Churchill cabled the general in charge to act as if "he were in a conquered city, confronted by local rebellion"

The question is not if, but when. What is going to push Americans over the edge? Somebody help with this point, but in Europe most people work directly or indirectly for the government. So, it is not suprising to see that the protesters/rioters are government workers. In America, all the pain thus far has been in the private sector. Government payrolls have at least remained steady to this point in time. (thank you stimulus money.) The cuts to government payrolls are coming. More pain to come for all. I still believe that when the American people fully understand that bankers have escaped this mess without taking a haircut of any size, and that they continue to profit at the expense of the taxpayers of America (and oversees countries that continue to buy our debt, if there are any left, why they would I don't know), the riots will begin, first in Washington then Wall Street. This is coming from a life long conservative. F Washington. F the fed. F Wall Street.

Witnessing government's response to protests in cities around the world, one is struck by the similarity in the faceless Darth Vader-type riot costumes of the police leaving their identities protected.  When Americans revolt, I'm wandering if it'll be the citizens and the protesters wearing the masks and riot gear and the government's faces that will be showing.

Today, we have ancient Rome. The entire city. The entire city will be turned into an open conflict contest of survival!

One of the discussions I had last night at the Men's Club with those Marxist professors is how far can societies flourish as wealth is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few:

Forbes List of World's billionaires 2010

I got nothing against billionaires, but my redistributive side tells me that no individual should have a net worth that exceeds a billion (or far less). In the past, America's richest families built things and donated huge wealth. Not any more. Now it's all a beauty contest of who makes it on top of some silly list of the world's richest people.

The super rich are not like you and I. They have huge egos that need to be attended to or else their whole existence is put into question.

I think that is because being rich now has almost nothing to do with working hard and its more about who you know close to the money spigot.

The war against the globalization elite has started. We will have globalization of the people, by the people, and for the people. It will be messy and last years but the people of the world are coming together against their common enemy. Don't be scapegoated into accepting the govenment imposed solutions. We the peole are the only solution. Take the bull by the horns. Carpe Diem!

S.3081: Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010 – U.S. Congress – OpenCongress Posted on March 10, 2010 by willyloman

 OpenCongress

The “Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010,” introduced by Senators John McCain and Joseph Lieberman on Thursday with little fanfare, “sets out a comprehensive policy for the detention, interrogation and trial of suspected enemy belligerents who are believed to have engaged in hostilities against the United States by requiring these individuals to be held in military custody, interrogated for their intelligence value and not provided with a Miranda warning,”

(definition of “belligerent” – … “inclined to or exhibiting assertiveness, hostility, or combativeness”  synonyms belligerent, bellicose, pugnacious, quarrelsome, contentious )  =  “dissent”?

The bill does not distinguish between U.S. citizens and non-citizens, and states that “suspected belligerents” who are “considered a “high-value detainee” shall not be provided with a Miranda warning.”

A person is considered a “high value detainee” if they fulfill one of the following criteria.

(1) poses a threat of an attack on civilians or civilian facilities within the U.S. or U.S. facilities abroad; (2) poses a threat to U.S. military personnel or U.S. military facilities; (3) potential intelligence value; (4) is a member of al Qaeda or a terrorist group affiliated with al Qaeda or (5) such other matters as the President considers appropriate.

 Belligerence is now a crime??

This does not bode well for Americans held in custody by other countries.

I can't believe no one else has called this...it's obvious the CDS speculators are the three mannequins behind the cracked (but still intact) glass...they are cold, heartless creatures who show no emotion, and try as you might, you just can't get at them to stop their reckless behavior.

WTF? Who brings junior to a riot?
