Challenger Investigation Got $175 Million. Columbia $152 Million. Lewinsky $30 Million. 9/11 $15 Million. Financial Crisis Gets Only $8 Million

George Washington's picture

Washington’s
Blog

The government spent $175 million investigating the Challenger space shuttle disaster.

It spent $152 million on the the Columbia disaster investigation.

It spent $30 million investigating the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

The government only authorized $15 million for the 9/11 Commission.

And
how much has the government authorized for the Financial Crisis Inquiry
Commission? You know, the commission charged with getting to the bottom
of what caused the financial crisis?

Just $8 million.

You can tell
alot about the questions which the government is truly interested in
finding answers to by the amount of money it authorizes for the various
investigations.

Financial crisis investigation cost per point drop over 15 minutes = $11,429

9-11 investigation cost per person killed = $5,321

Productivity is a bitch.

Off topic - but GW, I must ask why is the solution to a debt bubble always for regular people to work more for less, or just plain have no work and starve ALONG WITH giving banks all the money they want...why isn't the solution the opposite...

Greece is excellent example..media keeps saying "you workers were getting way too much vacation and we didn't tax the rich at all: so now you must work harder, so you can pay the interest on all the money we must give rich bankers????"

Its like a doctor telling you, the parasite is making you ill, nearly killing you, it harms you and releases toxins when you try to remove, so you should be nicer to it, feed it more so it can stay comfortable...

Maybe because work is a functional of resources, many available resources, much available work.

In times the flow rate of resources is diminishing, work has to be decreased. Meanwhile, rent is priviledged.

$30 million on Lewinsky blow jobs was money well spent... I hope Kenneth Starr and Congress learned how...

For the $30 million we got to learn what the definition of "is" is and we got Monica to admit under oath "Here's cum in your eye."

What the hell ever did happen to the blue dress anyway.  Where is the shot heard round the world?  Parked in a freezer somewhere?  Smithsonian?  Hillary left it on the coffee table and it disappeared?

One question Bubba Clinton:

"How's that workin' out for you?"

Thanks to GW for posting this. When Alan Greenspan had finished his testimony and Chairman Phil Angelides shamelessly announced that his performance was "lights out," I wanted to throw up in disgust and lost all hope for any honest results. Wonder how panel member Brooksley Born felt about that.

if you put it in real dollars the discrepancies are even greater. there is absolutely no interest in investigating this matter...8m usd isn't even interest on the federal debt for an hour.

i wish someone would investigation obama's nation of birth and his current indonesian citizenship.

Actually only 2% or so... according to National Geographic anyway.

This story that broke last week has had everybody from Evangelical Christians to racial supremicists up in arms. Turns out the only people on the planet who are 100% Homo sapiens (human) are those of African decent...

(The rest of us better just keep quiet about this one... )

You never know,  nailing a Neanderthal was probably like being in a washing machine on the heavy duty cycle.

You probably thought you were going to die, came out dizzy, sore, and wet, but then you probably couldn't stop thinking about getting back in there, ya know?

it really doesn't cost all that much to put on a show for the peasantry....small staff to ensure that the media treats the story properly; a booker to get a few senators and congressmen air time; and a little bit to get a few inept computer people in to "examine the records".....

along with the lawyers to write the "final report" and protect the politicians....actually, that is probably the most expensive part of the operation.

This says a lot. On another note, does it really cost 175 million to find out what went wrong in the challenger disaster? Who is pocketing this money? 30M investigating the monica scandal to what end? What did this accomplish and what did it prevent? Cigar abuse? Fucking ridiculous.
