Is China In Process Of Blocking Google?
Not like this wasn't telegraphed from a mile away: Reuters is reporting that Google users in Beijing have been reporting erratic service. This is most likely a preamble to a complete shutdown of all Google access to mainland China.
Users of Google Inc.'s search engines across Beijing reported erratic service on Wednesday, with the site sometimes failing to open, and some searches for even non-sensitive terms like "hello" returning error messages.
There were problems across several of Google's search engines, users said, not just the Google.com.hk site to which it has been directing traffic since shuttering its mainland Chinese-language Google.cn late on Monday.
However, other users reported no disruption to their access, or said they were able to search Google successfully minutes after initial searches returned an error messages.
Businesses, university students and people in private homes also reported intermittent problems on the main Google.com site, the Google.co.uk site and Google.ca.
The global game of prisonner's dillema is getting more and more interesting with each passing iteration. First: commoditized information just got premium again. Next: China returns the favor as Wal-Mart ends up competing with Barneys in ASP per SKU.
And China is already stepping up the rhetoric, accusing Google of helping US intelligence. They should wait until Google is also the number one govvie bond trader - things then will get really awkward. Also from Reuters:
China's latest blast at the world's biggest
Internet search company came in the overseas edition of the People's
Daily, the chief newspaper of China's ruling Communist Party.
"For Chinese people, Google is not god, and
even if it puts on a full-on show about politics and values, it is
still not god," said a front-page commentary in the paper.
"In
fact, Google is not a virgin when it comes to values. Its cooperation
and collusion with the U.S. intelligence and security agencies is
well-known," said the newspaper.
"All
this makes one wonder. Thinking about the United States' big efforts in
recent years to engage in Internet war, perhaps this could be an
exploratory pre-dawn battle," the commentary said of Google's pull-out.
The
overseas edition of the newspaper is a small-circulation offshoot of
the main domestic edition, and often makes bolder comments than the
main edition.
The commentary said Google's actions should prompt China to focus more on developing its own technology.

They should contact their internet service provider call center in India.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
lol
if goggles stock goes up 20% know that china is blocking the giant Internet service ,
the ppt will come to the rescue,, can't let the trilobites in the population think that the hot air is loosing its steam
China must block google, if nothing more than to safe face.
If I were the US and wanted china to DO something, just tell it not to.
Texas Hold Em' (China-Style)
Yep. Kinda like "You guys HAVE to de-peg your currency".
hmmmm...
I don't know how China going to survive without Google. At least GOOG warned them.
Are you suggesting the Internet doesn't work without Google and that the Chinese don't have the skills to create a Chinese version of Google?
Interesting. My guess is that they do, and after they build it, they will sell it back to the US gov.
I'm being sarcastic. This is part of the anti China campaign.
screw china.... don't we have enough of their junk in dollar stores to last a lifetime??
Nope. There's always room for more Chinese junk in my closet. Besides, all that crap will keep the bogeyman and other assorted monsters distracted while I slip out the back, Jack.
There must be 50 ways to force China to devalue its currency and buy more US bonds.

who gives a phuck about this? just more distractions... oh wait, dancing with the stars is on...
I just tried google.cn and it seems to be working, but maybe they're using an iptable blocklist to only block those searches originating in china. The opposite of what those blocklists are designed for, to keep people outside a country out, not keep people in your country out. Just a theory, but it seems fine at 10pm pst.
Hey, I just had a thought, why doesn't the cia or nsa hack google.cn to have every search return something about Falun Gong, Tiananmen Square, the Dalai Lama or something derogatory about Mao.
Xinhua daily news = propaganda @ in its purest form. Sometimes it reads like an angry 5 year old with an overdeveloped vocabulary and poor word selection. Not even worth a grain of salt.
Not Quite.
CNBS, FBN, NYT = propaganda @ in its purest in form.
All the above read and sound like angry 5 year olds with overdeveloped vocabulary but poor word selection and little logic.
Now Xinhua - that's more like it.More like Die Voelkischer Beobachter or Die Stuermer in tone, content and accuracy.
Just saying.
Google in China is an absolute "honeypot" for the CIA or NSA. Keep Google running for as long as possible and trace everything China is trying to do to block it.
China's getting tricked, they're on the completely wrong path. Everyone know's todays best hackers use social engineering to complete a task. Humans are really the weakest link...
DNS propagation anyone?...geez..maybe them thar outsourced DNS servers are not configured correctly (maybe on purpose?)...give it a few days...but the previous assumption may be correct.
When in China you use a proxy server, and thus problem solved.
I was in burma and tried to get out to a proxy server to check my email. This was fine in the north (around mandalay north) but once I got to yangon (rangoon) I couldn't get through. They blocked all the proxy servers I could find. Its a lot of work to constantly try to find a new one, so I think china could figure out how to block them all.
Most proxy servers are blocked as fast as they are created. SOCKS proxies, however, such as Your-Freedom, get the job done....so far.
Poetic justice!
It is tragically comical that many of these arrogant American high tech companies (ironically managed by morally superior liberals who know what's best for other people) who have been aggressively outsourcing our jobs for over a decade, are finally meeting their match in China!
Out of all places: China!!! wtf, weren't they suppose to be nice Asians that just roll over and die when you ask them??? lolz
I say good for China. You gotta show the bullies who the boss is.
Yessir, that China sure do know how to whomp those bullies' butts, like in Tiananmen in June '89. And the tech loss if Google leaves? What tech loss? A country capable of developing teflon coated tank treads, so that next time they need to teach some other bullies a lesson, they don't have to spend months cleaning all the brain tissue and eyeballs out of the treads, can do just about anything.
Light the way, O Middle Kingdom!
Tiananmen in June '89????
There are more homicide victims in the US every year than all the people that died in Tiananmen Square: http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm
At least Chinese companies don’t come here flaunting their moral superiority.
As for censorship and freedom of press, we are not too far off from them. Many important topics that affect our national security and our future are considered politically incorrect and not discussed by the mainstream media.
The root cause of the Google vs China clash is the disagreement among the elites of two different cultures -- US and China -- of what should be considered politically incorrect and hence not discussed openly. In China its Tibet, and in the US its immigration, etc.
Pardon me for making an assumption, but I believe you have never been a citizen or resident of a controlled police state. Whatever you might think of freedom of expression or lack thereof in the US, it is miles above China in terms of openess. Give it a try for a couple of years, then come back and comment.
Also, homicides between individual citizens, and a self-appointed, answerable to no one government that crushes even minor attempts by citizens to have a greater voice in their own governance cannot be compared.
Pardon me for making an assumption, but I suspect you have never been a citizen or resident of a controlled police state. Whatever you might think of the US, I assure you what you can do, say, read, or see is miles above what you would be allowed in China. Go spend a couple years somewhere like that, then come back and comment.
It is also spurious to compare homicides between individual citizens in the US, and deaths caused by the actions of a self-appointed, answerable to no one government reacting to a nascent attempt by citizens to have a greater voice in their own governing.
Pretty sure that the test was performed on Tian Amen square and stuff...A sure win to get blocked.
It could be much worse. They could treat Google like they do female children in China and put them in a bag with rocks and drowned them in shallow river water like they do in the Chinese countryside. Or let Google kill themselves at record levels like Chinese farmwives by swallowing rodent poisons, or they could just murder Google workers like they do their own citizens in Tibet and Xinjiang. See that's the great thing about being Chinese, you can always rationalize it's ok your government treats foreignors like shit because although foreignors ("Laowai") are treated like shit in China, it's still better than the treatment Chinese get themselves.
The biggest crime of China in the eyes of a Westerner: they dont distinguish that much between their own fellow citizens and foreigners, they are all equal in mistreatment.
Ah, if they could join the civilized world where mistreatment is reserved to foreigners and even better is done along racial lines, that would be such a marvel.
Hold on! Could it mean that in the process of exporting mistreatment, they could be led to victimize westerners? Maybe, people to be mistreated are running low nowadays and have been squeezed to the utmost.
I would invest in google on the principle that the internet should not be censored .This may not be ppt it may just be people who feel as strongly as I do about this . Imagine if this site or all sites like it were censored ?
if... or when?
Can't disagree with that. "Don't be Evil" my ass.
C'mon folks, really, what Google does or doesn't or what happens to it is of little consequence to most of the people on this planet. To "Google guys": It's just a search engine - get over it.
At least the Chinese government is protecting what it considers to be its own bailiwick from the international power elite, headquartered in New York City. On the other hand, America’s bank-controlled government works hand in glove with the international power elite to exploit, destroy, spy upon and sell its own citizens to these power mad plutocrats bent on total universal control. Who protects Americans? We have no representatives in government. Here is how nhsadika #270018 described the Global Elite, and the willing Googles, this past Friday on ZH:
When they have control over information/people, private property, individual govts, and the finances of those govts... what are you so proud of? Don't look at a housing boom and cheap goods at Walmart and say "oh we are so free here!" The facts below are undeniable and I challenge anyone to suggest they do not have powerful levers of control on us as there are in China.
Information control
Project Echelon - launched by NSA after WWII Anglo American project to intercept every message transmitted by any means. US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. Israel particpates Unit 8200 - UK covers middle east, UK Eastern Europe and Russia, NZ covers Pacific. Use embassies for the purpose of echelon. NSA spies would setup radio and microwave dishes on roofs of embassy disguised as AC and heating pipes.
The member nations cooperate in such a way that none of them is spying on the communciations of citizens from its own nation. By monitoring the private communications of other nations, they avoid legal prohibitions against a democratic govt's spying on its own citizens.Covers virtually every telephone call, fax, email message. ...analyzed by NSA supercomputers at Fort Meade, Maryland. NSA intercepts are processed using voice recognition and translation from 70 languages, and OCR. At Menwith Hill site in Britain, a voice recognition program called Voicecast can identify and target and voice pattern among 6 billion humans through the globe. Justification is western society must be protected against the so called Four Horsemen of Infocalypse; terrorists, drug dealers, sexual predators, and organized crime.
I am quite sure Google knows about nefarious activities spying in the US and has deep links into the wormhole. Google's CEO disgusts me when he says "if there is something you don't want them to know maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.. " (ie don't expect privacy). Then he says, we are all subject to the Patriot act and it is possible that that information will be made available to the authorities." Google is deep-linked, the decision to leave China is a tell-tale sign of where our relations with China are headed.
Suspension of Constitution and Full State Control
FEMA was created in 1979 through executive order 12148 issued by Carter. The president has the power to suspend the Constitution in a national crisis and turn over the reigns of govt to FEMA. The president then can appoint military commanders to control all state and local govts. A seperate executive order no 12656 declared that National Security Council would be the principal body directing national emergency powers. FEMAs enormous powers can be trigggered by the president during any perceived domestic or foreign crisis. Executive orders e.g 10990 govt can seize all modes of transport no 10995 govt can seize all communications media no 10997 seize all fuels and resources no matter who owns them11921 control over energy sources, wages, credit and flow of money in US financial institutions in national emergency. This order provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the president, Congress cannot review the action for 6 months
Corporate Power and Control of Finance
The UN, WTO, WB/IMF are among the major instituions that promote a system favorable to one world govt. Key element is long range strategy to centralize control of international finance. If a country turns to the iMF and World Bank for assistance they will be required to essentially abandon their national sovereignty. The truth is that the WTO bureacracy would have significant power to pressure nations to change their domestic lasws. WTO was designed to eliminate a nation's option to ignore GATT dispute panel rulings. The WTO is designed to function as the global trade pillar of a triumvirate that will plan and control the world's economy. The world Bank and the IMF got off the ground rapidly but the global trad arm was blocked by US senators who concluded it would diminish US sovereignty. Price to join -accept global free market economy - pay off all international bank debts as demanded by IMF and World Bank -privatize all nationalized industries -remove all barriers to Western investment and trade.Who is pushing for this...huge financial and multinational corporations and the politicians they financially support, pushing us closer to the NWO. If you want to know more about the financial control mechanisms in play, lookup "Confessions of an Economic Hitman on Youtube
Alex Jones - is that you?
Here is an alternative explanation which requires fewer moving parts and is therefore far more likely to be true:
1. Corporations are for-profit orgs with all the power and liberty of a citizen.
2. While it has all of the power and liberty of a citizen, it is without the compassion or other limitations of a human
3. The goal of a corporation is to make as much money as possible.
4. Corporations can only be led by people who are capable of suspending their compassion for the good of the corporation.
a. If the leader develops compassion, and it interferes with profits they will be replaced.
b. Successful leaders are thus morally compromised or are themselves sociopaths.
5. The 'good of a corporation' means do whatever is necessary to expand profits.
6. It follows that corporations align themselves with causes which give them the most freedom to make money.
7. Corporations do not like competition.
Conclusion- It is probably in the best interest of the corporation to align itself and shape the foreign and domestic polices of they countries it 'serves' to further the corporations ends. This isn't about vast conspiracies, it is about entities that are sociopathic and self-serving which find people who are willing to suspend their compassion (if they had any to begin with) to meet its ends.
Feel free to tear this apart. I enjoy the insight that others have that I may not have.
I am not Alex Jones. I am a citizen. Are you a corporation?
I think we agree mostly. It seemed like you were positing the existence of some sort of cartel that runs the world. I was just offering a plausible alternative. Are you a member of the 'shadow elite'? Perhaps you have evidence of the 'conspiracy.'
Perhaps we do agree on major issues. Perhaps we just don’t agree on how we have arrived at the current scene. “Inside” information may no longer be necessary as the “shadow elite” seem to be out of the shadows. That’s why I recently posted:
When is it time to stop snickering and giggling and finger pointing at the crazy conspiracy theorists? I think the laughter should be subsiding a bit as one witnesses the Greek Isle financial tragedy now unfolding in the Eurozone. The regionalization of nations was to be the first step as part of the march to world government by the power elites. It is now no laughing matter. Is it? One effort, whether it succeeds or not, is the Trilateral Commission. Listen to these words:
We cannot leap into world government through one quick step, but via progressive regionalization. ~ Zbigniew Brzezinski, former President Carter’s national security advisor, at the State of the World Forum.
The Eurozone, heavily backed by Wall Street based banks, was to be a part of the regional progression leading to more centralized control, not only of Atlantic interests, but of world power interests. The elites have been at the center of this movement for some time, using the laughter against “conspiracy theorists” as their only shield. But occasionally, the elitists’ bravado leaked through: Senator J. William Fulbright (1963)…”The case for government by elites is irrefutable…government by the people is possible but highly improbable.”
So much for the progress and hopes of Western Civilization.
And here’s a word from a founder’s mouth, not a Founder of America, but a Founder of the world government movement (giggle-giggle) that states government by the people is out-dated, i.e., banker and globalist David Rockefeller:
We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march toward a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries. ~ from a 1991 speech given to the Trilateral Commission (emphasis mine)
As The NY Times’ logo says: All the News That’s Fit to Print.
Good news for those that did the trade : Long BIDU & Short GOOG.
I'm wonder what would happen if Baidu someone became the size and importance of google and would then try to force the chinese values on everyone.
Tag line: Censure is goodle®.
Where by "develop it's own technology" of course they mean "reverse-engineer or steal whatever the West is doing"
PLEASE readers, this is garbage. China is not blocking Google so that Baidu succeeds. Thats like saying, the United States is blocking Toyota, so that General Motors succeeds.........You ever think that google is just a big strategic play on Russia becoming the next superpower......."the most powerful commodity i know of is information ;) dont ya think?"
