Commodity Complex Pummeled In Preparation For QE 3

Tyler Durden's picture

Not at all surprising, the entire commodity complex just swooned, supposedly on the latest DOE inventories data, which saw a surge to 2878K versus expectations of -1600K, up from 616K previously (same surge in gasoline inventories, which surged to 2553K on expectations of 900K). We say not surprising, because crude, and thus all the other uber-correlated commodities, needs to drop at least $10-15 from here before the Fed can then proceed to triple its price once the money from QE 3 start sloshing around. We expect significant more downside weakness in Crude as the realization that QE 3 is inevitable finally dawns on Wall Street. Remember the Catch 22: everything (commodities, stocks, etc) has to go far lower, before everything surges yet again post the next monetary easing episode.

well...ISM shows industrial activity falling rapidly.

Any industrial commodity should fall accordingly.  Oil supplies are relatively tight, so it will hold up.  Gold is a reserve asset and will hold up generally better.

But the speculative margin premia on anything like this will have to burn off.

QEx is a foregone conclusion unless the government is going to eliminate a $1.5T deficit.  Without Fed monetization, they simply cannot have a nonfailed auction.

this should tell you what the real credibility of pumpers is.

They were stuck clock right so long as the price was rising.  Now, all of a sudden, AFTER a big drop, you see them all coming out saying "glad I waited," even as on an up day they were happily parroting that COMEX was going to "run out" and that major upside price moves were imminent.

Some of them even put absurd price targets out there which fell flat on their faces and now they just pretend like such things never happened.  Ignore them as they are really just trolls.

So what? It's not the worst idea I've ever heard. Quite honestly, I think females should be reversible-sterilized at puberty. Later, if they decide they wish to have children, they can apply. A prospective mother should demonstrate that she is in a stable relationship with a decent mate, and that the two of them can adequately provide for a child and give it a good quality of life. No, you don't get to have 12 kids that you can't afford to take care of and dump the cost onto the taxpayers. Personally I am quite sick of having to pay for other people's children when I had no say in the decision to create them. By all means, bring on the sterilization.

Right, so you want men with guns to break down your door in the middle of the night and assault your 12 year old girl?

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Oh that's right, you are just another member of the death cult, jumping to the defense of Trav the high priest.

How's about instead of assaulting our children for being poor, and doing hundreds of millions of unnecessary surgeries, we just abolish the welfare state?

so you want men with guns to break down your door in the middle of the night and assault your 12 year old girl?

Is that the way childhood immunizations are done? By armed men who break down doors?

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Apparently, simply that I don't agree with you.

you are just another member of the death cult, jumping to the defense of Trav

I don't know anything about a death cult, and I'm not jumping to the defense of anyone. What I said was that sterlization is not the worst idea I've ever heard, followed by some opinions of my own.

we just abolish the welfare state?

Childhood immunizations PROTECT children, and are submitted to VOLUNTARILY by parents.  You really think parents are going to happily submit their children for sterilization by the state, because they MIGHT not be able to support children they may or may not have?  How do you intend to enforce this mass sterilization mandate?

No-one will submit to this, any more than anyone would submit to being executed at 30 years of age.

Thu, 06/02/2011 - 12:48 | 1332753 TheTmfreak
TheTmfreak's picture

While childhood immunizations are basically voluntary, in order to be enrolled in a public school it is not. This is like saying that federal money that is given to states is voluntary as well, except its not.

What about the states that are heavily against home schooling and alternative schooling forcing parents to do public education?

Thu, 06/02/2011 - 12:57 | 1332808 tmosley
tmosley's picture

Right, but there is a subtle difference between being immunized from diseases and being assaulted and rendered sterile surgically.  The complication rate from surgeries are such that mandatory use on everyone, there would be many thousands of deaths per year, not to mention that the reversal might not work, and poses additional hazard.

Thu, 06/02/2011 - 13:12 | 1332886 TheTmfreak
TheTmfreak's picture

I was purely commenting on your statement saying it was voluntary.

And I think your statement that it is "protecting" children can be used against you. Do you really think they wouldn't spin this to protect your childrens economic futures?

I already make the argument that abstinence (not necessarily till marriage but till you find the right person, whether you get married or not is irrelevant, mostly you're in a relative stable position) is without a doubt the best strategy today as it relates to "sex information" to "kids". I argue that due to today's community and family erosion and the extremely tight competitive atmosphere (not to mention extremely weak economic future) having a kid at the wrong time could figuratively blow your own legs off, and I thank the fact my retarded past didn't put an extreme anchor on my life like other people I know.

In saying this, do you not think some "liberal" politician suggests that if you sterilize your kids they'll have a much greater success chance in life, and therefore protect them? (They could be "right" at least how they will measure success).  Abortions are already conducted with this in mind. While they aren't MANDATORY, who says that "those who are on welfare with kids, in order to continue to get benefits, must sterilize their kids"?

They apparently know best. In otherwords, "protecting kids" can be used for sterilizing for their "own good."

Edit: Also one more thing, you think that unintended deaths due to liberal policies are going to stop these fools? Good intention government forced policies have killed more than enough people to refute your statement.

Cliff wants to keep feeding the stray dogs in his neighborhood until they population saturate.  When he can no longer feed them, their population will crash in starvation, disease, and misery.

The stragglers from the "starving masses" he hopes will find their way to his bugout ranch and worship him for his stacks of silver.

Less population at this point is in everyone's benefit.  Pay the intelligent to have more kids; we simply don't need more of the stupid and violent.

I wouldn't force everyone to become sterilized, I would PAY THEM to be.  Then, they can pay for the reversal should they choose.  Subsidize the fee of those who pass a test.

NOTHING compulsory about it.  I am all about carrots, not sticks.  Mosely-claven is just too stupid to bother with explaining all this to.

Thu, 06/02/2011 - 14:03 | 1333183 tmosley
tmosley's picture

No, I feed no-one.  Apparently you have missed the part where I want to do away with all government feeding.  Doing so stops people (in this case dogs) from becoming dependent.

Unlike dogs, humans have technology, science, and deductive reasoning (well, some humans).  We can create ionic liquids to reopen vast numbers of oil wells, and to harvest oil sands with practiacally no energy input.  We can mass produce graphene to build space elevators to take us to the stars.  We can mass produce doped graphene to harvest enormous quantities of solar energy.  We can genetically engineer microbes to produce fuel from sunlight and CO2.

But you don't want to hear about any of that.  You just want to castrate blacks.  You want them as slaves.  You want to use the government to rule over the "lesser" people, and flaunt the infinite power you have appropriated for yourself.

All you do is jack off to your dumbshit Mad Max fantasies.  I have some land, where I grow some crops, sure.  I don't need anyone to worship me.  What I need are intelligent, good people to be wealthy, and help me to build a better world after our current government collapses.  That does not include you, you God damn mass murdering sociopath.

Its not a dilemma for me mate, I don’t think there are many people that concern themselves with it to be honest. But since you bothered to answer, I was flippantly suggesting(laughably) that we take everyone in positions of power that have made poor decisions and influenced bad outcomes across the gamut of society - bankers, politicians, financial and social engineers, criminals, artists, inventors, corporate heads, media moguls, PR gurus, psychiatrists, scientists, buccaneer’s etc and sterilize them…they obviously come from a dominant gene pool of above average intelligence and are responsible for most of societies huge fuck ups. You get the idea; I never heard of lil Wayne from the hood designing an atomic bomb and dropping it on the yellow people etc…stuff like that.

When you look at how things stand, all societies true evils past and present are the creation of peoples with above average intelligence regardless of race. Is it evil you want banished, or just black people? And what makes you think that we need to get any smarter? Aren’t we smart enough to be plumbing new depths of stupidity every fucking day? Do me a favour.

Don’t look at it as people dumbing you down Trav, look at it as though you are helping people to become more intelligent. Maybe if highly intelligent people werent so specific and choosey about who they fucked, we could get to your nirvana a lot quicker. Get out there and get that little white dick into everything you can lay your hands on. Get out there and put some notches on the nations IQ median, be a good American.

wtf did race have to do with this?

I said IQ, not race.  It happens that the distribution curves between races are different, so the outcome would be disproportionate.  That is the only impact with race.

As for the crooks, fuck sterilizing them...execute them.

Lil Wayne never invented the refrigerator either...you want a society run by little fucking Wayne now?  Really?  They have that, it's called Africa.  I'll take scandinavia.

If they can prove later that they are hardworking slaves that won't put up a fight we can allow them to have children.

I'm just as appalled as you by having to pay for someone else's welfare, but the solution should be to remove the welfare state, not give the government more power to sterilise people... we all know where that leads to.

ahh, another dick-centric logic fail.

Quite honestly, I think females should be reversible-sterilized at puberty.

I had this one-sided "conversation" with Trav months ago - what none of you take into consideration is the FACT that females can only birth one child per year, while males can impregnate dozens of females per WEEK. . . so, if you're really really concerned about all those "other people's children" you "pay taxes" on - sterilise the seed planters, not the ground.

here's an easy proposition - paternity test EVERY "fatherless" kid on the dole, and hold the FATHER equally responsible for FATHERING, and providing for their offspring.  Three strikes (unsupported children) and yer out - quick snip!

I'm guessing once males have to take into consideration the consequences of refusing to wear condoms, etc. - there will be fewer children on "taxpayer" benefits.

not exactly clear on your "sterilization rates by race" statement, but I am not referencing "race" at all here, merely sexed (male/female) humans, and their deteriorating sense of response-ability overall, including the fact that having sex needs to include the notion of fertility - and either adjust the act with that in mind, or avoid it.

my point is that currently all the "blame" for having children is disproportionately skewed towards the female, rarely is the meme inclusive of the sperm-donor(s), and the system that was created to "assist" has actually fostered single-parent "families" by denying assistance when two parents live in the "home" - of course this is exploited, it would be "human nature" again, right?  like the gov't. & banking class, etc. - always with the damn handouts.

A toss up between the Mafia, the Fed and the CFTC as which is the most corrupt group in the US. But I err in thinking they are seperate entities.

I mean it is so blatant, they no longer bother to hide their deep corruption of all markets, just come out when they feel like and masturbate on national television and make out it never happened.

No country on earth is so strong that it can avoid the laws of the market, or the laws of physics.

The hit job on commodities will simply give smart people a sale price to buy in at. They'll be making tons of money on every telegraphed price manipulation move, and sell at a higher point. Free government money you gotta love it.

The insanity you mention is the beginning of scarcity. Good luck legislating scarcity away (you can get the illusion of this by printing more money, which we've been doing, but this has its own limitations).

This is not an inflationist outlook.

A brute decline or capitulation in the $U.S., along with a decline in commodities, is what I would call deflation.

Other things to look for are:  a Japanese Yen meltup, and a negative discount rate.

The end phase of QE2 is happening, but only in an attempt to keep short term rates above zero, which is failing.

Should rates go below zero in the U.S., this will have a direct impact on the gold price in all currencies.

It is one thing to try to steal my inheritance from me, my children and my grandchildren. It is another thing to want me and my family dead and/or try to kill us. That is where I draw the line.

As you know, most annuities pay out while one is living and cease to pay when one is deceased thereby leaving nothing for beneficiaries to inherit.

The new thing that I am surprised to read about in my local paper instead of on zero hedge is the new pension risk derivative trade. Apparently for the receipt of assets, if pensioner's live too long the banks will insure the pensions. And since no one seems to want to take the opposite side of the trade, the banks are left holding the other side, making money if people die early and also taking assets if people live longer. What a win/win for them. Hooray for the banks.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-16/death-derivatives-emerge-from-p...

"Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS), Deutsche Bank AG (DBK) and JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), which bundled and sold billions of dollars of mortgage loans, now want to help investors bet on people’s deaths."

If it wasnt for the fact that FEMA coffins are being stockpiled in the midwest and Atlanta, and that the Georgia Guidestones among other supposedly philanthropist groups clearly state a desire for world depopulation, or if the bankers running the banks had even one shred of conscience left, this would not bother me so much. however, due to all these facts, I find this news disturbing.

In light of this I find the comments made on this blog regarding eugenics extremely offensive.

“It is becoming more and more obvious that the Fed operates for the benefit of a few privileged banks, banks that never suffer for bad decisions they make.” In fact, it's quite the opposite, says Congressman Ron Paul. “As we have seen since October 2008, under our current monetary system politically-connected banks are paid to make bad decisions.”

It’s time to wake up and smell the economic reality.

Those in power, says Paul, “always imagine our dollar will have value no matter how many we print.  This expectation is foolish and naïve. I guarantee that those buying our debt are not foolish and naïve enough to go along with this charade forever.”

Paul is your typical US citizen, trying to bamboozle people with cheap propaganda.

The USD will have value no matter how many the US prints as long as:

-the US keeps its commodities based extortion business going, societies around the world will have to buy USD to get their ticket to the commodities market

-there are still commodities left to be sold.

The break point is in 2. The USD value will be seriously endangered when commodities run short.

Perhaps you’ve read in the newspapers that the economic leverage once enjoyed by the US has weakened considerably. Now, this debtor superpower is diverting its once powerful economic engine offshore and two little commodities, for example, are caught in the sandstorm of the Arab Spring…petroleum and food. Our puppets are falling and with them our influence on oil contracts.

As never before, Americans see the home we’ve provided for the corrupted investment bankers as a dangerous cancer in our economic system.  Just now the House leadership has postponed a vote to get the US out of the Libya War because they are afraid it would pass.

Milton Friedman: “The power to determine the quantity of money... is too important, too pervasive, to be exercised by a few people, however public-spirited, if there is any feasible alternative. There is no need for such arbitrary power... Any system which gives so much power and so much discretion to a few men, [so] that mistakes - excusable or not - can have such far reaching effects, is a bad system. It is a bad system to believers in freedom just because it gives a few men such power without any effective check by the body politic - this is the key political argument against an independent central bank.”

You've taken such a definitive stance on this, that regardless of whatever else you post, you must be clairvoyant or a liar. Clairvoyant because you know something more than any scientist is willing to state (that IQ means what you think it means), or a liar because you claim you keep your mouth shut when you don't know.

While I think somebody shouldn't necessarily keep their mouth shut when they don't "know" what they're talking about as it stifles debate, I think less definitives might show a better appreciation for "the truth" and one's own knowledge.

As the economic numbers get worse, it seems to me the Fed governors are going to have a hard time making the rationale for more printing.  The unemployment problem indicates the economy isn’t moving. I’ve noticed even the financial media has stopped using the tag line that “unemployment is a lagging indicator.”  It’s because the unemployment is just too predominant to dismiss.

Fair minded people don’t believe any longer in Geithner’s or the Fed’s massive amounts of ineffective stimuli – not only didn’t they get this economy running over the short run; their stimuli are making it worse.

People don’t buy that the stock market is the economy; the empty windows in the vacancies along Main Street are too glaring.

The economy is moving. Somehow, it is possible (while unlikely) that some US citizens have truly fallen to their own propaganda, that a healthy capitalist/socialist economy will translate in large jobs opportunities.

The economy is booming. That is simply that a booming economy is not associated with job creations.

Must admit holding confetti now is the right move, so far. Tough to short but took a couple small here.

Messing you up is their purpose, it's just a psyop.  Gun/Gin, Harry/Hamy, 777/7777...they are the same person, just switching personalities.  It's done just to stir shit up, confuse, and occasionally catch posters off-guard.

"I forgot the fucking password for 777"

I'm sorry, please clarify, who exactly is the moron again? (unless, of course, you were referring to yourself)

Don't forget Trav, your anger management group therapy is at 7pm tonight.
