Cramer's Latest Wipe Out Call: Buy Best Buy December 17 $44 Calls For A Total Loss

Tyler Durden's picture

The man who has become an embarrassment to clowns everywhere was out on Friday literally screaming his usual schtick. That said, the good thing about clowns is they don't give you advice that will make you broke. Unlike Jim Cramer. In his December 10th segment, Cramer says: "I would be willing to risk a small amount of money December $44 call options, they expire on Friday." Oops. Total loss on that small amount of money. And what is even funnier: "Best buy gives us a window into what people are buying for the holidays, so we hear what products are selling." Er, none? As always, trademark Jim Cramer entertainment that will leave you broke.

Cramer is the only grown-up I can think of who could trade successfully with the 19-year old video gamers. Give that guy a case of Red Bull, and I bet he could out trade even the fastest kid behind the terminal. As long as he follows motion on the screen, that crack-head could probably make a fortune. If Mad Money gets booted off the air, he'll have no problem starting up another hedge fund and making millions. Sad, but true.

Indeed...sad and true, he is a financial entertainer, a salesman.... his trading/investment style does not take a lot of intelligence--it works well during strong bull trends and when chasing momentum is profitable, he is a Johnny come lately to most of the issues he pushes upon his flock of sheep. This works until it doesn't, then there is hell to pay and a mass slaughtering of sheep ensues.  He becomes a good contrarian indicator--eventually, when the timing is right.

It's All Just A Little Bit of History Repeating, or something like that:

http://www.thestreet.com/story/891820/the-winners-of-the-new-world.html

"You want winners? You want me to put my Cramer Berkowitz hedge fund hat on and just discuss what my fund is buying today to try to make money tomorrow and the next day and the next? You want my top 10 stocks for who is going to make it in the New World? You know what? I am going to give them to you. Right here. Right now.

OK. Here goes. Write them down -- no handouts here!: 724 Solutions (SVNX), Ariba(ARBA), Digital Island (ISLD), Exodus (EXDS), InfoSpace.com (INSP), Inktomi (INKT), Mercury Interactive (MERQ), Sonera (SNRA), VeriSign (VRSN) and Veritas Software(VRTS).

We are buying some of every one of these this morning as I give this speech. We buy them every day, particularly if they are down, which, no surprise given what they do, is very rare. And we will keep doing so until this period is over -- and it is very far from ending. Heck, people are just learning these stories on Wall Street, and the more they come to learn, the more they love and own! Most of these companies don't even have earnings per share, so we won't have to be constrained by that methodology for quarters to come."

February 29, 2000

James J. Cramer

Don't do what Cramer says, do the opposite. If he says buy calls, buy puts. His track record is nearly 100% wrong, so a contrarian move would have a very very high degree of success.

That's not necessarily a good call to do just the opposite, you have to decide whether it's a good idea to be a buyer or seller of premium 1st. Just doing a call or a put is also bad as it's expensive and you're letting your principal decay. Have to consider if just doing a vertical or broken win fly works better, etc.

I'm severely disappointed that the offical ZH catch phrase "tragi-comedy" was not weaved into this post.

I expect better.

What's important with any forcasting model is consistency.   Cramer is consistent, you just have to understand how to use him.

I love the re-iterate buy SKX Skeetchers at $37.36 July 29 .....before it traded at $19...now $21.. Here it is:

07/30/10 - 11:20 AM EDT"" On his Thursday Stop Trading! segment on CNBC..Cramer, a "shoe bull," said "it's very clear that this is one of the prevailing bull markets in otherwise not so bullish tape for retail."

Shoe retailers Cramer said he likes include Steve Madden(SHOO_) and Skechers(SKX_). He added that he think both company had "great" quarters and are "dramatically" undervalued stocks. ""

Why do you get upset at what Mr. Cramer suggests? It's just another voice 'telling you what to do.' If you've got a bit of sense you have to follow your own plan and don't get distracted, regardless how good or bad the external suggestions are, it's much worse to get distracted.

"Should I be worried about Bear Stearns in terms of liquidity and get my money out of there?"

"No! No! No! Bear Stearns is not in trouble. If anything, they're more likely to be taken over. Don't move your money from Bear."

Damn him....I was gonna buy the dip on MIPS today before I found out he called it out last Wednesday, so the Cramericans were probably the ones that bid it up the next day.  Now I'm back on the fence.

listen ,anyone that gives 3,000 trading ideas an hour has to be wrong once in a while, but that one winner out of 3,000 is well worth an hour a day of your life. Flipping hot IPO's due to his friendship with Spitzer and the media and he still lost his mind, family and respect.

That is probably the dummest person on TV I have ever seen. I mean come on, just about 3 seconds are enough to figure out that this is an over the top trash show.
