Yet another bout of panic selling on the open, but that didn't stop the HeatMappers from propping and supporting the "Daytrading Darlings" being gamed by the 19-year olds running grandma's 401(k) money over at Fidelity.
You can always tell if the morning selloff is "real" or not by watching these screamers:
Didn't see too much damage here. Besides, I noticed that the "worst of the worst" debt-laden, government owned IRE was up 6% today, another Animal Spirits barometer.
Funny how these behemoth institutions are so quick to sell anything and everything commodity related when the dollar shows the slightest bit of strength.
Just goes to prove that venture capital is dead, private equity is dead, and alternative investments are dead.
No fund manager at Harvard, Yale, CalPers, TIAA-CREF, etc. would dare touch anything these days that cannot be liquidated in 2 minutes via a mouse click.
Therefore, when the dollar ramped, these guys engaged in the usual chain-selling of gold, oil, steel, infrastructure, etc. and immediately piled the proceeds into bonds.
A half percent here, a half percent there, it eventually adds up for these guys.
Nobody dares to hold anything for more than a few days.
Meanwhile, the more enterprising smaller fund were simply rotating money out of commodity plays and gunning the homebuilders, retailers, home improvement plays.
Hey, what ever is moving up gets bought. What ever is "not working" that day is dropped like a used tampon.
And of course, bonds were lapped up once again, as our government freely issues gargantuan amounts at near zero cost, week in and week out.
Why not float some 50-year and 100-year paper? No doubt, it would go out 3x oversubscribed, especially on a day when stocks are down.
Nobody is going home without wearing a condom today. Note the sky high put/call readings from this afternoon when the market was actually green:
