The Definitive Libyan Civil War Photo Gallery
Reuters' Goran Tomasevic has compiled what is without doubt the definitive photo collection of Libyan (and middle east in general) civil war photographs. While the outcome of the Libyan conflict is far from clear, it is certainly well documented. The full gallery can be seen at Reuters (link). Here are some of the most representative photos:

Loved the woman in the hijab 5th photo from the bottom. I want her to be the mother of my children.
I love her! I'm getting her enlarged to poster size.
Ha! After all the American propaganda I've heard about the alleged subjugation of Arab women and empowerment of American women, I'm not sure what to think if Arab women can shoot like that.
She's shooting at the pigeon that fouled her washing.
She can shoot, but if she wanted to aim, she would have the rifle butt on her shoulder;)
Not necessarily...watched the wife shoot a turkey at thirty yards holding her .410 righthanded, but on her left side at hip level...shot him in the head...oh, and was an uphill shot at that.
Glad she's on my side...
I bet she can clean a fish too. I wish she'd hang out with my wife more often.
i used to bullseye womp rats
Unless those planes she is shooting at are REALLY low, she's wasting valuable ammo. -0- intelligence needed to point the bang stick into the air and pull the trigger.. complete waste of time, energy, and ammo..
Now this guy is a bad mo-fo! lol
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8199/008ch4.jpg
i knew she was my kinda of woman! did you notice the two guys left and right cars, giving the V sign?
if she had a reality show, i. would. watch.
.
That's her old man...

That woman has more balls then most men.
That is a woman?
Looks a little like Meat Loaf.
She is the reincarnation of Dolores Ibarruri
wow, some memory, some reference! "La Pasionara"!
yeah Falak..That's right..La Pasionaria
I don't feel so alone now
She is the reincarnation of Dolores Ibarruri
That is a woman?
She's trying to bring down Nilesat I think.

LOL!
Loved the woman in the hijab 5th photo from the bottom. I want her to be the mother of my children.
This is an undeniable aspect of some males' selection process for a mate (not a DATE). Someone who will continue to fight for my children as hard as I did, if something were to happen to me.
"Mess with my family and I will fucking kill you...dead."
Over madeup, screwably-attractive but otherwise useless, surgically-enhanced plastic sculptures need not apply. There's something else, too: while skin-deep physical attribues can be artificially enhanced but are guaranteed not to last, long term life attitude cannot be artificially enhanced and has a much higher likelihood of lasting.
Yeah, but if you have to impregnate her by jacking off in a cup (and thinking about another woman), then that defeats the whole purpose doesn't it? After the war is over, that lady will resume her job guarding a bridge.
That's no woman (no tits) and those are no "rebels". In the case of Lybia, and from what I'm hearing "back home", Syria, these are Al Qaeda, or at least certainly a foreign element. These guys are not home grown.
Some good first hand information on Syria can be found at:
http://syriacomment.com
Do not confuse the bullshit for the real thing. Tunisa, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, and soon Saudi Arabia, those are real. Why? Because the guys who stir up shit always come from those countries. Remember who (at least supposedly) flew those planes into the WTC?
In any given region, just consider who the American stooges are and you'll never go wrong.
I am Chumbawamba.

It's not a "civil war", it's an Anglo-Amerikan blitzkrieg!
Ghaaddhaaffi was kicking Al Qaida's butt in the northeast, so the borg had to step in to protect their favourite little troublemakers for when they need them next (in Iran?).
If Daffy holds the Anglos off in the west, they'll annexe the east (which is where most of the oil is). If they can capture Daffy, they'll just take the lot. Win-Win-Win for the borg.

'Remember who (at least supposedly...)'
Sounds good...
Now, if only I could remember why I'm supposed to hate someone...
OK, so who or what is Al Quaeda?
and for the record, not for a minute do I condone flying planes into tall buildings...
and for clarity, I said when the twin towers came down that the US would conveniently not find Osama Bin Laden, ever.
or at least, not while the House of Saud held sway in Saudi...
so who or what is Al Qaeda?
That's Blythe trying to take down silver!
There is some more of those! Pre-war though...

Well Sarkozy should give Q-daffy an up-date : dear camel, I have now changed my own beautiful she-camel. Her name is Carla B. So chew on that one, you all-used-up camel, who will no longer be Head camel, while I ride my she-camel to Cannes Film festival! She is, as you should know if you read Foxy-sky news, in the Woody Allen's film. You donkey...I know how to choose my she-camels; while you sacked your Ukranian nurse...you are such a dummy. I'm coming to get you before...Cannes.
With all that destruction I bet Libya's GDP is soaring.
Shes ok. But what I really think is making that photo resonate with people is it's serendipitous pairing with the photo above it. Try opening the woman photo in another window alone. Then compare to looking at the two together, you can use your hand to block the other surrounding photos. It's a great pair.
Bob: 'Loved the woman in the hijab 5th photo from the bottom. I want her to be the mother of my children.'
for two camels and a bag of rice, she can be...
Damn fine collection...
But it does look as though those boys could uses some leadership...
El Quaida is shipping some in soon.
Wasn't that the bad guy in a Clint Eastwood film?
Wankel rotor? Not something you see everyday...if ever!
That looks like one of the pre-1974 rotors that used the thicker graphite apex seals. They ould rev to no end, but they wore out fast, leading to loss of compression. They were replaced by thinner iron apex seals, which were heavier and would eat the motor if you too it over 12,000 RPM (which you shouldn't do).
The rotor seals were pretty easy to replace though. We had a Mazda pick up truck with the rotary engine. It was very fast. The seals went faster!
Here you are. The rebel leader himself (and worth adding to the collection).

Looks like the guy you'd like to have living next door, don't you think?
Or some cover. They need some guidance on the merits of digging in, and not standing in the middle of the road.
"Hello Pulitzer" fine collection!
Nailed the shutter speed to catch the mid flight RPG in the image sixth from the top. What a shot!
The birth of a desert nation?
phallic, did you like the two couch potatoes? not like your average american couch potatoe, watching civil war fighting out back, taking a little R & R.
Seriuosly, where do all of these RPG's come from??? Do people stockpile these things, than when they become "rebels" they pull them out from beneath the couch? I guess maybe "Lord of War" was more than just a good movie.
Oliver North..Remember?
Maybe Sarah Palin donated them with her personally dedicated target photo to each guy using a gun. "Bull's eye Palin".
The planet is awash in ex-Soviet Bloc small arms.
You could probably dig one up every hundred yards or so.
Looks suspicious.
It only costs $5 to dig RPG's up in any Middle East country......
IIRC, the manufacture cost for RPG's are relatively inexpensive. About $50 per "round".
The picture with that woman shooting in the air
and the picture running with a backpack full of RPG grenades are the most funny.
Also the fact that the "rebels" are selling each day 300.000 barrels of oil to Dubai who sells it back to the EU EVERY DAY!
That gives them a income of 30 million a day.
Off course, all for the good cause and not a single one who takes advantage from it.
The Kalashnikovs come out again! It's the 21st Century symbol of freedom.
The earlier pics had a bunch of FALs... I guess they've substituted for the cheap ammo ;)
Still hoping to see some G3 derivatives...
bullish
I think I was at this gun show last year. Ticket prices were reasonable.
Me too, tickets were reasonable but the problem was the service. You have wait 30+ days before anyone pays attention and helps you.
AK 47 semi $500-600 in the States
AK 47 Auto $5000 in the States
Ammo- 1000 rounds = $200
Woman AK47 with ammo = twice the price of her Car
I doubt they are paying the going rate in USA for their fully auto AK47.
GUN Runners are selling to the wrong markets if they're looking for profit margins
Apparently a few years ago you could get an AK47 and 2000 rounds of ammo in Albania for a carton of Western cigarettes.
This must be why I hear people say a great investment is to plant Tobacco in the back yard for when SHTF. More pricess than gold to certain members of society.
I was living in Albania in '97 during one of their periods of unrest and an you could land an AK for a loaf of bread. Shit was everywhere.
slide fire solutions "legal" in US stock $350....awesome

You just found my new toy purchase for April for me. Thanks. :)
Nice!
Some awesome M134 minigun videos found nearby.
Full auto = waste of ammo. There's a reason the M16A2+ series rifles have selectors for Safe, Semi, and 3-round burst. Any more than 3 at a time and you're just making noise.

That costs way too much......

I noted to a friend last night that I thought ammo was expensive. almost a buck a shell for some calibers.
Watching the middle east, All I can say is that 'These guys use ammo like they don't pay for it."
Who is their supplier, How can I get a line on FREE Ammo? Is there a supply truck on every corner? Is there daily specials for RPGs?
How can I get ammo for nothing?
No kidding, they can't afford food, so they must get ammo for free. Last I checked, a box of Winchester 270 would feed a family of 4 over there.
After the rebels pushed out Gaddafi's forces, they raided the army's supply depots and armories.
Spirits are high, in general.
But for how long?
Damn. Do a google search on Goran Tomasevic. He's everywhere...
Didn't he do the soundtrack to Arizona Dream with Iggy Pop?
Probably glad he's got this Libya gig or else he'd be first in line for the hot zone in Fukushima.
Another war photographer that has a frightening body of work is James Nachtwey. Look him up also. He's been in the thick of things for so long that it's nothing short of a miracle he's still alive.
You gotta be a special kind of crazy to do that for a living. I've got tons of respect for those guys.
Amazing stuff. I can't imagine actually going into a war zone on purpose armed with just a camera. Seems incredibly dangerous to me - from all sides no less - and you somehow have to convince all sides you are really just an impartial observer and that's a good thing -...
watch Speed Grapher on netflix.. lead character was a war photographer then it gets crazy but good crazy
It's not a civil war...it's a peacekeeping mission...can't you tell?
"Humanitarian" is our doublespeak over here in Europe.
I was told that it was a kinetic military action.
It can't be said often enough: Obummer trashed the constitution by going to war with NO Congressional authorization. Hard to find a worse precedent, this side of BS Bernanke.
There have been numerous cases of airstrikes etc without congressional authorization...
Gun running in the ME is clearly a booming business...
I wonder if GS is gettin' a piece of this?
Good Job Mr.Tomasevic
Yeah, especially good when he just knew the tank would explode.
(I don't want his camera taking picture of me.)
I can't tell you how happy I am to see the rebels "retaking" territory and cities.
Maybe now we'll finally get some proof of Gaddafi's civilian massacres.
Great Piccie #14 down:
It's enough to give anyone a headache, eh?
8th picture down: I have to wonder if those two guys looked under the cushions and found any loose change?
Looks like TOMO by POMO, you HOMO, and your 12th Imam.
you're splitting fine hairs...on your BONO's ponytail...Sonny would not like that.
Ya got me. Off to get another keyboard now....
the next criminal war based on lies ...
Looks like a worthy conflict for US involvement.
yeah...and for French and British involvement too..soon the Germans will join
Drang nach Süden, but to make it fair, Germans should participate on the Libyan side.
Geez, for a minute there, I thought it was Detroit. I guess its too soon...
Observations:
You gotta love the guys who show up for the war driving the family car and wearing sneakers.
Cover your ears and open your mouth before firing that thing.
You gotta lead ground-attacking jet aircraft by several football fields in order to have a chance at hitting them with small arms. This is best done by large groups all at once.
Because of its speed, a jet aircraft can best be engaged by the caliber .50 machine gun in a continuous burst. When the aircraft is flying a crossing course, the gunner uses a lead of 200 meters--two football field lengths. Fire is directed ahead of the aircraft, letting the aircraft fly through the machine gun's cone of fire. The TL should not try to track or traverse with the aircraft. It flies too fast. The dismount element, with its M16A1 rifles, SAWs, and M60 machine guns, uses the same 200-meter lead to engage jet aircraft. For helicopter, a 50-meter (half a football field) lead is used. If the aircraft, either jet or helicopter, is flying directly toward the vehicle, the TL should aim slightly above the aircraft nose and fire.
Feed those turbines..!!
The bullshit photo's out of Libya don't hold a candle to the photo's now appearing in the current issue of Rollingstone magazine. Some say war is hell. General Smedly Butler once said war is a racket. If members of our military responsible for these atrocities are not brought up on court Marshall along with their commanders, we are truly fucked as a country. What say you commander in Chief Obama?

Wow! This is crazy! Thanks for sharing, although I wish I hadn't seen some of the pictures.
Jesus Christ.
If someone did that to my son, let's just say, well planned or not, you couldn't stop me from getting my piece of the "kill team." There is no wonder that they hate us.
@#$%##@!!!
Indeed, someone sold guns over there, but who paid the bill?
That weaponry comes from the stormed Gaddafi armories.
Who got the commission? And where do I sign?
Off Topic: must read tough;
It said there had been a 200% surge in display advertising in the social media space.
Web Takes 25% Advertising Slice As Social Media Drives Demand (The Telegraph) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/media/8412130/Web-takes-25pc-advertising-slice-as-social-media-drives-demand.html
Shooting outside the base of Fort Bragg, with a soldier being the suspect. Looks like domestic issue, but obviously this guy was carrying a loaded weapon in his vehicle on and off base. Isn't Wackenhut great? WTF?
I've been so busy, haven't had a chance to keep up with everything. Question: What roll, if any, do ZH'ers think that Libya's State Owned bank (as opposed to private central bank) has to do with the current war?
dont these people know that smoking is bad for your health
man..these 2 guys on the couch..chit chatting like they're in a manhattan starbucks...straight outta a Jarmsuch movie huh!
I'm long Toyota pickup's
I give this "war" a month, at the most. Ghadaffi ist kaput.
Obama will come up smelling like a rose with a "quick" victory.
Sorry. This has quagmire painted all over it.
Yeah a country of 6 million people, with a significant opposition that has forces on the ground is going to produce a long term insurrection. good thing there aren't any U.S. troops on the ground....YET (for all you Cassandra's out there)
Fucking hell, Iraq isn't even a 'quagmire' and you've been there for almost a decade.
nowhere between hiways seems like roadrunner slash daisy dukes all over me again period.
praise be the supreme bernank. may he ease your seirverts away.
truly amazing iconic photos, jeez these people mean business
Pat Buchanan's got this one right (as usual). We have no business participating in this country's civil war. Washington warned us against foreign entanglements in his farewell address. The U.S.A. has been on a downward slope ever since.

Had to make this.
Saw as much of Obunghole's speech last night as I could without vomiting. Recognize that this fuck - excuse me - this Nobel Peace Prize winning fuck is the prime source of the "terrorism" that will result for years to come from his un-Constitutional acts of unilateral aggression against Libya for oil. But the Intoner-in-Chief's hollow, mendacious, logorrheatic words suggest not so much a conspiracy as a conspiracy of dunces. This man is a (dangerous) fool.
Obummer just finished his speech.......
I only need one word to describe it. -FAIL-
Speech done. Vomit bowl emptied. Hasn't anyone told him you never go full tard?
After ABC wipped their chins they said he focused on America's values and interests. What are America's values and interests? Corporatocracy and oil, that's what. What a joke.
Winning
Silence you lowly peasant! How dare you question the teleprompter in chief!!!
Last picture from bottom is before America captures Libya and second from last is after America captures Libya.
The two best pics are (1) the soldier on his back, using his foot to help aim the machine gun, and (2) the woman stepping out of her car to aim her weapon at the sky. Absolute classics. I wish we knew what they were aiming at, LOL!
I don't even think THEY know what they're aiming at...remember they shot their own CAP jet right before Franco-US step-in.
