Democrats Stunned Social Security May Be Cut Following CPI Definition Adjustment
It appears that the AARP does have a powerful lobby. Not even an hour after we posted the AARP's stern displeasure with the revelation that the appropriately named Chained-CPI adjustment would cut into Social Security, and Nancy Pelosi is already making waves with her shock that this proposal was in fact among the options being discussed: "Before Thursday's White House meeting on the budget, congressional Democrats said they planned to remind President Obama not to leave his party and base behind. The Democrats' testiness followed reports that the White House was proposing to alter Social Security and Medicare as part of a potential debt-ceiling deal with Republicans. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., planned in the meeting to “express his feeling that we haven’t been kept in the loop,” according to a senior Democratic aide who asked not to be identified so he could speak candidly about the friction between the president and Democratic congressional leaders. That feeling is shared by many Democrats, irked not just by the potential cuts, but by the White House’s failure to float it to Democratic lawmakers before they learned of the proposal through media. “Good politics starts with good communication, and I think they should have come and talked to us about the direction, particularly when it’s the social contract and we feel so strongly about it,” said Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md." That's interesting: so despite our observation well over two weeks ago that the CPI adjustment would have a major adverse impact on entitlement NPV and that it has been discussed for quite a while now, somehow nobody bothered to explain to the Democrats on the Hill that the immediate consequence of this action would have been a massive change in Social Security dues? Just how clueless and mathematically challenged is everyone over in Congress? As for the Democrats' claim that these discussions "only now" appeared on the scene, we leave that to those far more gullible than us to swallow.
Per the National Journal:
The debt-ceiling talks seem to be occurring in “a parallel universe,” Mikulski said. “The base is quite cheerless right now,” she added.
The White House appears to be gambling that Democrats, even if they gripe, will ultimately rally around the deal the president cuts, as they did last year on a tax package and this year on a continuing resolution funding the government through October. And Democrats, especially at the leadership level, recognize that because House Republicans are the chief obstacle to passage of a deal to cut the deficit and raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, the main negotiators must be Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.
But any deal will still need votes from Senate Democrats and likely some House Democrats. And Democrats worked Thursday to suggest limits to what they will accept.
“I believe that if you are going to deal with Social Security, it should be done on a separate track unrelated to the deficit reduction,” said House Budget Committee ranking member Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., who was a member of the bipartisan debt-reduction panel led by Vice President Joe Biden.
“My view is that you’re—just to be very clear—not going to balance the budget on the backs of Social Security recipients,” Van Hollen said.
But Democrats signaled they may not accept a deal that pairs immediate entitlement cuts with the prospect of future revenue increases.
In a statement, David Krone, Reid’s chief of staff, said spending and revenue should be balanced “in terms of timing, specificity and dollars.”
Enter the AARP lobby:
Several House Democrats on Thursday said they were pressing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., not to accept any changes to Social Security or Medicare, though Pelosi did not commit to such a stance.
Many Democrats argue Social Security savings should remain in the program, not be used for deficit cuts. "Any changes to Social Security must be reinvested in Social Security and not used to offset tax cuts for millionaires," said Castor
Bottom line: now that enough stink has been raised about this stealth theft which somehow Congress thought would fly under the radar, the budget and debt ceiling debates are likely back to square minus one.

Cue the "Left v Right" Rhetoric in 3...2...1...
I can hear it now... the House (Rs of course) are wanting to starve granny so that the taxes can stay low for rich people!!!
Yeah, they won't learn until the entire system locks up. Give aarp something to really bitch about.
Obama is happy to concede on SS because he is Gen X, and all Gen X has always known that SS would be gone by the time we retire. So who really cares what happens to it?
As a fellow Gen Xer, I care because I continue to have to pay into it.
No you don't. Just quit your job and you won't be paying anymore. Doesn't cost you much, because you know it's never going to pay out to you anyway.
Take responsibility for your situation--if you would prefer not to pay, just make it happen. Many millions of Americans don't pay any FICA at all.
Just quit your job...
That's a fantastic solution.
Let me guess.... you're a libertarian?
He's either a Liberal or a Neo-Conservative..which is pretty much the same thing.
Just another idiot with idiot ideologies.
I'm an anarchist, boys. My ONLY ideology is that all illegitimate authority should be destroyed.
I'm not a fan of whiners.
"OOOOOH the big bad GUMMIT takes my MONEY! Poor ME!"
Shut up and do something about it. You have to consent to be a slave.
Hypocrisy is always best served by the ignorant.
The ignorance is a fine charge I suppose, but you don't know me well enough to call me a hypocrite.
Anarchism: When libertarianism just isn't goofy enough for you.

Educate yourself (or continue to be a fool)... Stateless society
"You have to consent to be a slave."
When I decide not to consent they send a SWAT team to my house to obtain my consent. Unfair!
Let this be a life lesson to you "son" ;-)
There is no such thing as a voluntary tax.
When they say it will only a penny, realize, it will soon be a nickel, then a dime, then a dollar. Then multiply all the various taxes you pay at the state & local level. You only think you're getting taxed at 15-35%...not at all.
Welcome to the darkside.
Generation Y, Bitchezzz.
I prefer "Millennial" for your generation. It sounds less derivative. It also contains more hope, which I think we will need as your generation comes into power. But perhaps you will make your own generation name in the near future.
"It also contains more hope."
LOL.
Sunk costs. I say kill the program and stop the theft. I am so sick of paying for DNC votes.
Obama was born in '61, Gen X starts in '66. Hes a boomer.
No one wants to claim him now?
There's some hope & change...LOL!
"The Fourth Turning" thinks Gen X started in 1961. Regardless of the agreed upon year, he is certainly borderline and I do not think he properly represents Gen X. We are the destroyers of institutions and cultural norms. We have a destiny to fulfill, and it is to tear down the status quo so our children can build something better. It is a thankless job, but if we don't do it who will? We must dismantle the American Empire. This is the cause that has so many of us here, we just didn't know it. Read "Fight Club". Know that you are chaos and you are what Nature and man itself has ordered up for the human race. Embrace the nature of what you are.
Obama is a criminal Zionist Rothschild puppet. He can do nothing on his own since he is totally incompetent.
These people are about to start a bloody revolution.
he's not totally incompetent. i wish he were. he gives, at times, great speeches, talking convincingly like a fully white man, and, with help, ran a good come from behind campaign for the nomination. and if his assignment was to vastly compromise and dispirit the democratic party, he's impressive there as well.
Obama was born in 1961.
GenX birth years start in 1964 or 1966, depending on which definition you believe.
So Obama is a boomer.
'tis true (if you consider him a gen. x'er).
You do not have to be intelligent to be in Congress...that is PAINFULLY obvious.
Decepticrats: "I'm shocked, shocked to find that spending cuts are going on in this establishment!"
Republicons: "I'm shocked, shocked to find that deficit spending is going on in this establishment!"
Will someone just Taze these buttwipes already??
Stupid political kabuki.
Curl up and die, already, so we can clean up the joint and start over.
+ 1
Why wait? Let the clean up begin!
congress things continually exhibit the fact that they no longer represent the majority of Americans, ergo - let's represent ourselves
Is there a RAID for politicians?
Sure! It come in many common calibers. I particularly like 7.62 x 39, but will gladly use anything available.
The question one must always ask one's self with political Kabuki is...
Which one is the bitch in the dress this time???
the last thing the dems want is pistol packing granny showing up over at their place.
This SS debate is meaningless since they are going to hyper-inflate the currency into worthlessness.
It's all calculated to keep the stunned bull population chasing that damn red cape while they finish the thieving. Plenty more political distractions where that came from.
Ole!

i always wondered where those bullfighters kept their wallets in those tight fancy clothes they wear.
now i know...
I don't think that is his wallet... I think he is a one ball matador from a previous work accident...
That cape will soon be a soft pastel, in light blue or lavender.

Frankly we could use something more like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDlUnvZScuA (not for the squeamish)
they should not be mean to the bulls.. if you are going to eat it, fine.. I will help.. but like your Mother said "Don't Play With Your FOOD!" cause Karma is a bitch.
It does however affect what the population sees and how it is affected BEFORE that happens.
The supposed entitlement cuts are just distraction.... the real deal about this proposal, is just another method to hide from the population what is going on, until it's already almost over.
Let me tell you a story from germany. When the euro was introduced, prices did spike up about 40%, yet wages stayed flat. The population was outraged and wanted the old currency back. Even the MSM was full with euro-bashing.
How was that kept in check? Well, it was a psychological war. Politicians, economists and bankers just told the people that they're stupid, and that there is no real inflation and that people just don't understand stuff (yep, official inflation stats were basically 40% off at that time, and people were treated as stupid for feeling it). They were told that it's just because everyone was living unfairly good, compared to other countries.... and that basically prices had to adjust, so that they get in line with the other eurozone members (yet strangely, prices jumped up in other nations too! How is that possible without some giant stealth money printing job that makes QE1 & 2 look like peanuts?).
And that is how people accepted 40% increase in prices with zero wage adjustments..... by treating them like idiots, and appealing to altruism and guilt. Or in short: They were angry, but couldn't explain it, and thus were psychologically kept feeling powerless. "They're cheating us, but we don't understand how, and thus don't know how to debunk what they say."
It's not just about stats, not just about facts - psychology matters.
Nice post. psychology always matters more.
It's all a CONFIDENCE GAME - Keynesianism.
Debt = Money and Money = Debt, as both fiat and issuance of and demand for credit, in necessarily larger batches over time is the only way the economy can avoid contracting.
Once the confidence of consumers and small business owners is lost, it's game over, because money stops circulating, and money is the lubricant of the economy, and as the engine seizes up due to lack of lubricant, more jobs are lost (the government can only plug, then slow, the job losses for a relatively short time), and the cycle feeds on itself.
Ponzinomics of Keynesianism relies on CONfidence games, spread by government and media lies, but the one thing they can't gloss over, even with manipulated statistical data (tortured), is J-O-B-S (or the lack of them) and the level of wages/benefits that go with them (or the quality of them) - even dumb sheeple realize something doesn't mesh at some point.
It's all about psychology and our masters know which buttons to press, unfortunately.
For example, if you are persuaded to believe your life expectancy will be measured in minutes, not hours (imminent nuclear attack / gangs pillaging every house on your street / no fuel to burn in a frozen environ), then even the thought of where your next meal is coming from, goes out of the window.
I would wager the wealth represented by those funds as well as pensions, 401k's, etc. is already toast. The last penny of it was effectively blown (transferred) as we slammed head first into debt saturation. The damage has already been done. What we are witnessing is nothing more than the aftermath - a slow motion train wreck.
Thank you. The SS Fund was looted, errr borrowed and now instead of recapitalizing it, the benefits will be slowly eliminated or "real" beenfist reduced as the benefit increasess lag COLA. Say what you want about us boomwers, I do not care, just give me the money back that I and my employers (me most of my life) have paid in... At this point, getting my principsl back even with a massive purchasing power haircut is preferable than having the Fucking Asshat president give to someone for thier payment on the liar loan. Or credit t6he baoance against future tax liabilities -
This country is sad.
Agreed Qball. Instead of Bernank's monetization of new and existing debt why not monetize (convert to checks in the mail)the $2.6 trillion of non marketable SS/FICA bonds, close out SS and send boomers, X'ers and Y'ers every dime paid into their account? He wants inflation we can give it to him. All the best CI in Mex.

One of the reasons SS is out of control is that it is indexed to wages, not costs. And, wages have been increasing faster than costs. Deceleration is appropriate.
you are wrong, the COLA is linked to the CPI
http://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/latestCOLA.html
also, wages for the middle class in america have not increased for decades, so if it was linked to wages there would be no increase.
The problem with SS is people live too long, if they would just agree to die sooner (Logans Run) there would be no problem :P
Soylent green! lol
Hmmm. I know I've heard this repeated many times. Perhaps it's something to do with CPI-U vs. CPI-W (urban consumers vs. wage earners)?? Sorry, but don't have time to drill down on this. Thanks for correcting me.
Doesn't matter a bit. If something is inefficiently calculated, then you fix the calculation, not the definitions!
Want to cut something? Then propose to cut it. Want to tax something? Then propose a tax. Want to calculate a service or tax differently? Then calculate it differently..... but DON'T change the definitions, unless you're a sophist.
@payable on Death
No worries, i just happen to have come across that info recently. (the various CPI calculations are a huge convoluted mess to be sure).
But the problem with SS will not be solved by changing minor things on the margin like a CPI calculation. The problem was baked into the program at birth. It did not correctly account for lifespans increasing as much as they have, and as a result it is underfunded (well it is also underfunded because congress has stolen money from the SS fund and replaced it with paper IOU's, but that is a completely separate issue).
Isn't that what it is?
As one of the people you'd probably have to shoot (before I'd be adjudged to start shooting), I can see why you would probably believe even people like me "live too long" into their 40's.
All I have to say is that I know people who are openly saying to bring it on, and they'll take as many with them as choose to go.
Everything in your post is wrong. STFU.
Posturing, pure and simple.
They lick the same master's hand.
huh?
Shocking! SS is going to be cut? No way!

Corporations dont pay Taxes in America!
Top 10 corporations which paid no taxes
Here is Sen. Sanders’ list of the 10 worst corporate incometax avoiders:
1) Exxon Mobil made $19 billion in profits in 2009. Exxon not only paid no federal income taxes, it actually received a $156 million rebate from the IRS, according to its SEC filings. (Source: Exxon Mobil’s 2009 shareholder report filed with the SEC here.)
2) Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion. (Source: Forbes.com here, ProPublica here and Treasury here.)
3) General Electric made $26 billion in profits in the United States over the past five years and, thanks to clever use of loopholes, paid no taxes.(Source: Citizens for Tax Justice here and The New York Times here. Note: despite rumors to the contrary, the Times has stood by its story.)
4) Chevron received a $19 million refund from the IRS last year after it made $10 billion in profits in 2009. (Source: See 2009 Chevron annual report here. Note 15 on page FS-46 of this report shows a U.S. federal income tax liability of $128 million, but that it was able to defer $147 million for a U.S. federal income tax liability of negative $19 million.)
5) Boeing, which received a $30 billion contract from the Pentagon to build 179 airborne tankers, got a $124 million refund from the IRS last year. (Source: Paul Buchheit, professor, DePaul University, here and Citizens for Tax Justice here.)
6) Valero Energy, the 25thlargest company in America with $68 billion in sales last year, received a $157 million tax refund check from the IRS and, over the past three years, received a $134 million tax break from the oil and gas manufacturing tax deduction. (Source: the company’s 2009 annual report, pg. 112, here.)
7) Goldman Sachs in 2008 only paid 1.1 percent of its income in taxes even though it earned a profit of $2.3 billion and received an almost $800 billion from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department. (Source: Bloomberg News here, ProPublica here, Treasury Department here.)
8) Citigroup last year made more than $4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes. It received a $2.5 trillion bailout from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury.(Source: Paul Buchheit, professor, DePaul University, here, ProPublica here, Treasury Department here.)
9) ConocoPhillips, the fifth largest oil company in the United States, made $16 billion in profits from 2006 through 2009, but received $451 million in tax breaks through the oil and gas manufacturing deduction. (Sources: Profits can be found here. The deduction can be found on the company’s 2010 SEC 10-K report to shareholders on 2009 finances, pg. 127, here.)
10) Carnival Cruise Lines made more than $11 billion in profits over the past five years, but its federal income tax rate during those years was just 1.1 percent. (Source: The New York Times here.)

Congressmen and Senators on AVERAGE! Collect $4 Dollars for every $1 Dollar that "We the People" pay them. The Lobby PAYS our Elected Officials 4 Times More than "We the People" do.
We Pay them $100,000 and then the Lobby Pays them another $400,000.
If you were wondering why Corporate America was given Tax Breaks and Subsidies to erode the Manufacturing Base / Job Base / Tax Base (why do you think we are Broke! all those manufacturing jobs that would have been taxed by 1/3 are in China). 50,000 Jobs a MONTH for the last 10 years! a DECADE of 50,000 Manufacturing Jobs a MONTH! Shipped out of America! and they got Tax Breaks and Subsidies for DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY!

“It’s not just an exaggeration that Social Security is headed for bankruptcy, it’s an outright lie,” Reid said.
Reid and other Democrats at Monday’s event note that Social Security has a $2.6 trillion surplus and is projected to pay out 100 percent of benefits until 2037. After that point it is projected to pay out about 80 percent of owed benefits unless changes are made to the program.
What do you give a Govt that's taken everything?
Useful idiot.
This is a VERY VERY big deal, for a VERY VERY big number of votes.
Yes. The key Dem voting blocks comprise SS recipients, illegal aliens, and food stamp recipients.

The Corruption is so very much deeper than "We the People" know.. or worse, "We the People" do Not! want to know or be bothered because for far to long rampant striping of their wealth. Maybe we the People should use the Internet to collect enough monies to buy back our Government? Rope is Cheaper and leaves a longer impression on those who fill the shoes of the Treasonous Scum removed and prosecuted.
Nope! Federal and State employees. Most SS recipients vote Republican.
Maybe if the government didn't create inflation in the first place, there wouldn't be a need to redefine inflation or have a COLA at all. Dumbasses.
The first step in resolving a problem is properly identifying the problem. It appears as if everyone failed at Step 1.
Yes, and maybe if the Kleptos hadn't stolen the money in the SS trust fund to begin with there might be some cash to pay the people who had it taken from them. But then that might have required some form of fiscal responsibility over past 50 years as well as the failure to engage in several loser wars (Viet Nam War, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq War, etc) which is a fantasy.
Kick the can, baby. Kick it hard!
BINGO!!!!!!!! The policies of the left and the right are to tinker on the edges and get a class war going on (I fall for it all of the time - damn old people, damn welfare degenerates, damn excessive public worker benefits, damned unions). If the cost of subsidizing everyone but the true working class was brought out through direct taxation, the government could confiscate 100% of all wages and there still wouldn't be enough. When you have a fiat paper system that can delay the cost the pile of shit just continues to build up.
Democrats will ensure that assaulting anyone who is a black, gay, brown or yellow (IMO, assaulting people is very, very bad, and should never be done) is a 'hate crime,' even though assault qualifies for the pretty stiff criminal sanctions in every state, regardless of whether the victim is white or black, already, and Republicans will ensure that The National Anthem is sung before any game begin - so there.
As for the raping and pillaging of the American [former] Middle Class, they will run, with the wind at their backs, together, hand and hand.
They should pass it so they can find out what's in it.
Pelosi's finest moment.
Yet, the Ignorati in her district STILL sent her back to D.C.! :>(
Time to dust off the playbook from the '11 annual budget playbook - Repubs get greater tax cuts and greater loopholes for themselves and their sponsors while Dems get more free shit for their bread and circus act.
Spending only worsens except for back end loaded savings that only kick in ala '15 and take full effect in 2020 - which is to say they never "voluntarily" kick in (PM's would seem advisable at this moment).
Good friends "can" and "congress" planning next road trip!
so the Dems don't get the tax cuts and the Repubs don't get the free shit.
OK.
Deal!
Speaking of politics, this guy is a psycho:

Carve a few $100 billion out of $100 Trillion in debt and unfunded liabilities like Social Security. Who cares. This whole debate is bullshit. If AARP and Pelosi really cared about Social Security and Seniors, they'd care enough to explain the math to them. Instead, they'll just wait until it all collapses. I don't like the Republican's for supposedly solving problems on the backs of the weakest of us, but I like liars even less.
Yeah I think it's very funny to make you pay me trillions of dollars a year for 50 years, spend
all the money on pot, blow, hookers, firecrackers, and Lamborghini's while wearing faggy
Ralph Lauren bougoius gear and Rolex's and then call the debt I owe you an 'unfunded
liability' while laughing and snorting MORE blow brought in on C130 cargo planes landing
in the wonderful state called Arkansas. Haw this is the funniest thing EVER.
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it most certainly is Nancy Pelosi
Do you HAVE to resort to insulting ducks? Geez.
Yeah, I mean, hell, you can eat a duck.
Democrats as Sargent Shultz: "I know nothing about SS cuts!"
In the words of Hairy Reid:
Well, he lacks a "negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."
ROFLMAO!

I thought I would get <JUNK>ed way more for that one...
Thanks slimeball, Diebold vote flippin', election fraudin', "My son's the election clerk in Clark County", giant douch-bag... Hairy "Spineless" Reid... for the cover...
Probably of all this verbage, the item that counts the MOST, is the issue of out years vs NOW.
The GOP was somewhat snookered in the 2011 Continuing Resolution deal, where they demanded 100 Billion in cuts and after all proper analysis was done, it was clear they got about 3 Billion in cuts.
They will not tolerate it again. They will demand cuts UP FRONT, as in FY 2012, and those cuts will have to be north of 300 Billion or they will have no support.
The Democrats want tax increases to hit NOW, and any cuts to be later, as in never.
It is actually possible that this deal can't be done. In which case we'll see 3 month debt ceiling increases, with 100 billion dollar cuts as the price for each of them.
The overall reality here that raises eyebrows in the context of politics as usual, is that the Tea Party folks didn't arrive in town to get re-elected. That is a very very dangerous reality. They came to do their "mission from God" and they don't care about re-election.
Ominous stuff.
I'm surprised the lobbyists weren't all over this sooner.
Pelosi's shock feeling is shared by many Democrats, irked not just by the potential cuts, but by the White House’s failure to float it to Democratic lawmakers before they learned of the proposal through media.
Now I thought Pres O's roots was as a community organizer so shame on him ;)
Obama pretending to want to cut any entitlement is like Casey Anthony pretending to be a good mother.
I think there is a lot of fake outrage coming from Obama's left, but it's all designed to make him appear to be more centrist. Marxist-boy-in-chief is in deep trouble.
'Bam has got 5 wars going in MENA, some illegal --- so where's all his commie anti-war people and their impeachment talk now that we could really use it? Maybe they're too busy in MENA right now trying to start Obama's MB war with Israel to do anything but barely give a peep now and then.
Can't tell. Pelosi always looks Bo-shocked.
LOL
The only thing tight on Pelosi is her face lift...
donkeys in one corner, elephants in the other
The democrats damn well knew. Faux outrage... again.
Democrats assume they can obfuscate and will be shielded, as ever, by the not so invisible Force Field that is the MSM.
Harry and Nancy found out that Obama is more of a republican than they are.
Obama is outslicking willie clinton ;)
I'll take Slick Willy in a face to face Lie-Off any day...
No teleprompters...
Barry the Bitch will go down...
i knew they would start taking it out on the poor and elderly. they are destroying the country. can't you people see this?
The sooner, the better. Its rotten to the core. Time to start over.
I see it and it is a shame. The elderly paid into that fund at gun point. You and I pay into that thing at gun point. At least give them back what was put in, even if inflation has sucked the purchasing power dry. Oh wait, it's empty. It is outright theft, theft, theft.
Weiner showed his "stuff" around wanting to be seen as a "well hung" politician. I have another idea on how that fantasy could come true for all of them...
"We'll give em a fair trial before we hang em".
Judge Roy Bean
Weiner stuck a HoHo in his shorts... That was an illusion too, MsC...
And even worse, many of the elderly are actually... poor. Twice as dangerous. And their power, makes oil companies look like nothing.
- President Barack NerObama & Benjamin S. Bernanke; joint statement
NM Rothschild & Sons Are Moving In For The Kill“Beware of calls to return to a gold standard. Why? Simple. Because never before has so much gold been so concentrated outside of American hands. And never before has so much gold been in the hands of international governmental bodies such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. In fact, the IMF now holds more gold then any central bank.” ~ Bill Still
It's not just Social Security - everyone knows that's unsustainable as is - it's official inflation denial.
It would be that much harder to paddle furiously and stay in the same place with TIPS too.
Alpo & Fancy Feast will be allowed as suitable substitutes to pork chops and chicken breasts in accordance with then new CPI formula & methodology.
I imagine this new Chained-CPI adjustment approach would help sway the folks who are weighing the option to either take SS at 62 or wait until full retirement. This will most likely push demand on the system forward.
Cuts. Sure. Cut Pork, not so sure. Cuts to things that don't bribe us. yeah, we can all agree on that one, that's a no brainer for Demopublicans. You get the black swan that is really a Hungarian Horntail. Want to see the people of this country agree on something? This is going to be the last act by what we laughingly refer to as our goverment. Look how high that swan is flying! oh look, it is going to land on
All the BS over the past 4 years is over. The payroll SS deductions must be non existant.
Bingo! You got it. Think about how much revenue has been lost from jobs lost, self-employed and bizzes tanking or gone altogether. Not just for SS either, tax revenues in general. The blowback of reality is here, they are trying to decide which will not get them hung first. Collapse or angry ponzi recipients? Looks like we know now. They do not fear the elderly, disabled anymore. They are more worried about keeping the other collectors sanguine until the end, they tend to get violent when hungry and homeless.
BTW, why SS cuts and no defense cuts? We gotta kill off da excess young pop in wars, have "old" people die younger. Face it, we overspend on buying gramps a pacemaker to live another few years, we overspend saving a preemie crack baby who will never contribute to society, while letting healthy and viable go without healthcare/food/decent education? Genetic defects have overtaken our pop, ask any animal breeder why you shouldn't let the sickly/stupid survive to reproduce. We have beem practicing reverse Darwinism, not nice to fool Mother Nature. Eugenics will be making a big comeback, me thinks.
Disclaimer: the views above do not necessarily represent my own, I am parroting views expressed by "elites" i have known and encountered all my life.
What about Gypsies? Can we kill them? How about gays?
I say it again...it does not matter now...we can see that what needs to be done to correct this country will NEVER be done...politics will kill it...so it will die...slowly or fast we do not know...but we can´t spend 60% more than we take in....soon the rest of the world will start to ignore us...they will be dumping our dollars....our interest rates will skyrocket...our costs will go up..shortages...hyper inflation...the politicians on both sides will be screaming to what is happening...but they will have no power to do anything..they will try with rules, regulations, laws, confiscations...but it will be out of their hands as the rest of the world tries to save themselves by getting out of our reserve currency...new leaders will arise...Russia, Brazil, China...????...gold will be a big player...and the mobs will roam the streets in the USA...we will be done by then...its sad to watch...the funny thing to me is.....is it safer outside the USA....or safer to stay inside.....outside the foreigners will be pissed because the USA lost them a lot of money...inside it will be Americans vs Americans fighting for survival...I hope someone videotapes all of it....for the archives of course
+100
I dub this:
"Incremental Austerity"
A week after the cuts begin, the sheeple will forget all about it;
then it will be time for the next "Icremental Austerity Measure"
those congress things took notes (Pelosi stayed awake and out of the face-lift chair) while observing Iceland, Greece, Argentina, Ireland (not so much -the laid down and went to sleep)
Hey - did Pelosi have a role in Terry Gilliam's movie "Brazil"
see at 00:12

LOL. 'Incremental Austerity'
'boiling frog' revisited.
Who cares about this stuff? When is iPad3 coming out?
I am unsure, but sheeple are all excited because Business Insider (that incredible repository of intellectually stimulating financial news /sarc) reported that the iPhone 5 will look "completely different" than its predecessors (it will look 'kewl).
As soon as the moron sales-boy Jobs pulls it out of his turtle-necked ass...
so we are to believe that those in Congress who DO NOT receive social security benefits are concerned about cuts in social security.....probably just as concerned about as much as are they are regarding Obamacare
Dog Food is soon to be what's for dinner at Nana's cardboard box.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., planned in the meeting to “express his feeling that we haven’t been kept in the loop,” DID HE MEAN LOOP, or NOOSE?
On the other hand, maybe Harry and Nancy are as stupid as they appear to be.
For sure they are stupid, but who ever thought they were suicidal?
You mean 'stunned' in front of the cameras but laughing in the back room.
Stunned in front of the cameras...resorting to Plan B (blame everyone but themselves to cover their arses)
yes, that too!
Is this the same "Pelosi" who called all those Seniors at the at Town Hall meetings "Nazis.".......?
Social Security has been cut every year since the '60's - let me rephrase that - funds have been discretely lifted from the "lockbox" to help with the budget deficits and replaced with "promises to pay you back", ah - sometime...You have my word...
Food stamp participation 15% of U.S. population....As they drive up in their new cars.
Social Security ponzi...as the boomers children receive a debt note.
So we have a major portion of the U.S. population believing that those who work hard to produce and make profits must pay for the dependent children of sloth. Seems the banks and the liberal politicians are fulfilling their greatest ambitions complete power and control of the American masses.
We'll never see an anarchist awakening as long as SS and Medicare are in place.
So I say just end both now. We'll work things out. And everyone would very quickly realize just how unnecessary our Federal goverment is when they stop paying people to live.
SS is just another Ponzi scheme and just like in any Ponzi scheme, the people who get in first get the best deal. For example, Ida May Fuller was the first SS recipient. She paid in a total of $24.75, retired in 1939, and eventually collected $22,888.92 in benefits.
http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2004/11/the_social_secu...
The baby-boomers are going to be the ones left holding the bag.
I don't see how we can blame the 'boomers' for this (amongst other things):
'The government adopted a unified budget in the Johnson administration in 1968. This change resulted in a single measure of the fiscal status of the government, based on the sum of all government activity.[47] The surplus in Social Security trust funds offsets the total debt, making it appear much smaller than it otherwise would.'
....I couldn't vote when I was 10 years old so I obviously did not vote the clowns into office that made this decision.....nor the closing the gold window decision....nor the 'Great Society' programs decisions..etc, etc ad nauseum.
Well, I for one blame the idiots that created this turd...sometime in the '30's as I recall from history. I'm 37 and would gladly write off what I've spent in at this point so we could get rid of this crap. Who's with me?
The SS revenue dumps right into the general fund...meaning it's just another tax. Look it up if you don't believe me. There is no separate account for this. If there was, I imagine they'd have actual money in there. Instead Congress just used it over the years for whatever bullshit they thought was necessary.
What burns me up is that FDR, the idiot who created Social Security, is honored on the dime. There is no way that FDR deserves to be ranked among presidents like Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln. I think we should abolish the penny and put Lincoln on the dime. Pennies are virtually worthless now (thanks to FDR's elimination of the gold standard). I see them lying on the ground in stores and parking lots and people don't even bother to pick them up.
The copper in a penny is worth more than a .01 of a FRN.
Since 1982, pennies are made of zinc with a thin copper covering. A pre-82 copper penny is worth a bit more than .01 FRN. But a new zinc penny is worth a lot less.
Lincoln was the founder of hard core statism in the US and was the original bearer of the "submit or die" mentality in US government.
He deserves no such honor, and I piss on his memory. Im glad my ancestors fought that swine.
Before the war only part of the population was enslaved, after it was over everyone was.
I would guess some politicans thought the hocus-pocus mirror trick with CPI would prevent actual cuts from being needed.
Ooops.
"Just how clueless and mathematically challenged is everyone over in Congress?"
Really, you have to ask yourself this question? Where have you been?
Old people receive too much money for doing nothing. If granny had pack a pistol then she can hold a job.
Asshole ... we old people PAID into SS for many years in the hope of being paid back in 2010 and beyond. NOTHING is what You do.
Shove it. Granny Greeter at wally world might have a weapon to fend off the starving masses who just discovered their food cards are empty.
Besides Granny does not care about Walmart's hourly wages. It's less than what it's worth staying at home and decaying.
To tackle all the problems we face, you would need a dedicated, knowledgeable team of people working long, hard hours - so, what do we have? A conglomeration of elected officials, some who have been there for decades and do as little as possible, newbies who haven't a clue, and probably quite a few of dubious backgrounds and questionable problem solving skills who only take up space, yet, all of them will be spending huge swaths of time and effort to be re-elected! Add to this elixir, legions of lobbyists looking out for their own special interests. Does this sound like a formula for success? Face it folks, we're F@!%#).
Texas is almost ready to help SS.
Fry that illegal!
