300 dollar to shoot a RPG, and 600$ to shoot a RPG at a life cow.
And as a recipe, you could empty a kalignikof on a life chicken. (is harder then it sounds, these chickens where like already used at dodging bullets :) )
Now the Europeans are whining, calling names, and throwing sticks and stones over it all. Personally, I don't blame the UK for not wanting to touch this mess, they got enough problems of their own on tap.
IDF investigators believe that the gross negligence of an IDF sergeant led to Thursday's training accident in which 24 soldiers were injured, three of them seriously. The injuries were the result of a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) exploding at a military base in the Golan Heights during a training exercise for infantry troops.
Three of the soldiers, who were only drafted into the army six months ago, remain in serious condition.
The commander of the northern front, Major General Benny Gantz, appointed a colonel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident; a military police unit will also probe the incident.
The accident occurred shortly after 4 PM when a sergeant at the Tel-Furan base in the northern Golan Heights was teaching a class of soldiers from the 12th Golani battalion on the use of shoulder-fired rocket launchers. The sergeant, who was using live ammunition in violation of orders, inadvertently fired a rocket from the launcher.
The rocket hit one of the classroom walls and blew up, injuring most of the soldiers in the room, who were sitting five meters away from the sergeant.
Military sources told Haaretz that the 12th battalion was on a brief training period in the Golan Heights after more than a year of duty in the territories. At this stage, the battalion was joined by the new recruits, who underwent an ammunition course on RPG's, weapons that are rarely used in the territories.
"Everyone [in the room] was hurt, an entire platoon of children, who just arrived from boot-camp," the sources said.
The IDF strictly bans the use of live ammunition in classes; its use is only permitted at the shooting range. A senior IDF officer involved in the accident investigation said that the sergeant admitted that he had used a live rocket, and that he knew that he was in violation of an explicit IDF ban.
The sergeant was also lightly injured in the explosion, but his friends are concerned about his mental state. The RPG was his regular weapon during his combat training and he shouldn't have had any problems operating it. He was the most senior commander in the area during the exercise.
A senior IDF source told Haaretz that the accident was a "terrible human mistake. It was done without thought, negligently, and the result is terrible."
Due to heavy fog in the area, IDF helicopters had difficulty transporting the soldiers to hospital and were forced to land in the central Golan Heights and transfer the seriously injured soldiers by ambulance to Rambam hospital in Haifa and Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer. The remainder of the wounded were taken by ambulance to Rebecca Sieff hospital in Safed.
Take away?
"There really is no substitute for a live fire exercise."
Well then, that's going to be my excuse.
