Egypt Promptly Turns Ugly Again As 4 Protesters Killed By Pro-Mubarak Supporters: Al Jazeera, Al Masriya And CNN Live Feeds

Tyler Durden's picture

After what was largely a quiet day, events in Cairo's Tahrir square have taken a turn for the worse, after at least four protesters were killed and thousands more injured after semi-automatic gunfire erupted, supposedly out of the pro-Mubarak supporters, some of whom were previously exposes as being Egyptian police. End result - Egypt CDS (ignoring that ludicrous $25.5 million AUM EGPT ETF, which for some ungodly reason is supposed to represent the entire Egyptian stock market) are about to bounce once again, two days ahead of the February 4-5 "Days of Rage" in Syria, and as concerns about a Suez stoppage and Saudi contagion spread yet again.

As usual below is the Al Jazeera live feed...

And this time we add the CNN live feed as well (switch to stream 2), together with a feed from Al Masriya and the Egyptian State TV.

Poor Anderson Cooper got beat up.  Revolutions can be messy, especially when the tyrant sends the palace guards out to the streets in civilian clothes to rough up the masses.

It's gonna be a wild ride...

Junk this you Israeli ass lickers.

The war mongers on TV will tell you to fear Muslim ideology and Israel is in danger. I’m getting sick and tired of this BULLSHIT!

Let me set you straight right now on that issue.

NO COUNTRY IS GOING TO INVADE AND DESTROY ISRAEL EVER UNLESS THEY WANT A COUPLE DOZEN NUKES SHOVED UP THEIR ASS.

ISRAEL HAS 300+ NUKES OF THEIR OWN AND WILL USE THEM IF THEY NEED TO. STOP SENDING US FOREIGN AID TO ISRAEL.

Make lots of signs for TV that say;

ISRAEL HAS 300+ NUKES! DON’T FEEL? SORRY FOR THEM!

As the White House role-plays anger over Mubarak's goon-squads beating up on the very same people it lauded only yesterday, it might be good to remember that the Egyptian president has been a US and Israel puppet for 30 years, and that he's consistently been the number 1 US ally when it comes to renditions, torture and disappearances in the aftermath of 9/11. By the way, whatever happened to Guantanamo Bay? Wasn't there a promise to close it 2 years ago at a certain president's inauguration? Is that the sort of timeframe we're to expect when Hillary robot-talks about a "smooth transition"?

We are in so deep, the tangled web the US has woven over the past 30 to 50 years is truly the matrix.

They all suck but Fox is slightly better than others.  CNN and the others spew the Obama love propaganda 24x7. Good economy, QE 2,3,4 and 5 are working, Bernake is under control. The standard lies CNN, MSNBC,CNBC,Bloomberg, NBC, ABC, CBS and to a lesser extent Fox spew 24x7.   Fox slight spreads less pro-Obama endless love like the others.

I cancelled it all because it is all shit.

As far as who shot whom?  We have no idea.  Anyone's guess so folks don't start saying it was Mubarak's guys or the army or anyone else cause you have no clue.

Its worth struggling (laughing) through the Arab translation of the Arab version of Al-Jeezera to read some of the more Arab centric reporting.  Somehow the English version of AJ is like FauxNewz.

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ar&u=http://www.aljazeera...

Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a prominent cleric throughout the Arab world (and banned from US travel) came out and stated that "all people" should go out to protest and/or aid the injured and that Mubarak was killing his own people. 'live a good life (with Mubarak's overthrow) or die as martyrs.'  PS: This guy isn't Mother Theresa, but he's not AQ either.  Friday is the next big day! He's your next favorite trend setter.

Its clear in the minds of most Arabs that Mubarak is only US/Israel's man.  The longer he stays on the worse it goes for the US.  Someone in the Army is going to retire Mubarak.

Meanwhile, the government's (Mubarak/Obama) strategy is to starve out the protest - most food out of ports are stalled.  Most major cities don't have more than a week's worth of food in inventory.  When you find out your mother doesn't have bread, you are going to fight a little harder.

All those big brain blue blood CFR thinkers are going to have their asses handed to them.

In Arabic, al-Qaeda has four syllables. However, the closest naturalized English pronunciations include /æl-ka-d/, /æl-ke-d/ Al-Qaeda's name can also be transliterated as al-Qaida, al-Qa'ida, el-Qaida, or al-Qaeda.

The name comes from the Arabic noun q'idah, which means foundation or basis, and can also refer to a military base. The initial al- is the Arabic definite article the, hence the base.

Bin Laden explained the origin of the term in a videotaped interview with Al Jazeera journalist Tayseer Alouni in October 2001:

The name 'al-Qaeda' was established a long time ago by mere chance. The late Abu Ebeida El-Banashiri established the training camps for our mujahedeen against Russia's terrorism. We used to call the training camp al-Qaeda. The name stayed.

But even if it never goes "hot", Israel is going to have to divert resources to confront the threat.

They have focused for a long time now on low intensity conflict...and the 06 conflict proved they were ill trained. For that matter, the incident on the high seas where they killed the members of the flotilla showed total ineptitude as well.

Seems likely that this marks the turning point to civil war.  It may fester under the surface for some time, but I don't see it going away.

The US would like nothing better than for it to develop into a civil war, because then they'd have a script they are familiar with... demonizing the enemies of their puppet. It segues nicely into their extremist fear rhetoric as well.

'Bamm the sham.

The Nobel Peace prize is really slumming it these days

Egyptians are actually blaming Obama for triggering the violence

Bamm said "OK, orderly transition."  But then messed it up by also saying, "now."

He shouldn't have even given a speech right after Mubarack

The dirty little secret? Hosni Mubarack is dying anyway.

Perhaps.  It seems likely that the US had some hand in these developments, but they got far out of any shred of US control (as is so often the case).  Yet, the US may view it as a "win" in various scenarios:

1) Democratic pro-western government in Egypt - unlikely, but would be an obvious win.

2) Heavily undermined Mubarak stays in power - we can save money by cutting off aid, but he can't really do much different without someone starting a hot war against him.

3) Civil war - as you say, gives the US a new hot zone and some new James Bond-style enemy to keep the US masses pacified with.  Could also give us a reason to go in and "defend" the Suez Canal, thereby saving on transit fees and getting priority access.

4) Islamic revolution - like #3 but without the same likelihood of our "liberating" the canal.  Potentially offers us a 3-front war in the Muslim world, just when 2 fronts was getting boring.  Win for defense contractors and sociopathic destroyers of our young male population.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I was gaming it. Hosni might not need the USA.

If I was Saudi Arabia I'd pay Mubarack to crack down (just saying).

If he goes, they go, and they have tons of money and a lot to lose.

In the bunker, Mubarack was probably casting about for a lifeline

He might have gotten it. I wouldn't rule out Israel $$ either, absurd as it sounds.

Egypt is their firewall. Israel can't fight this one, but they can pay and make promises.

All these peacfull protests represent is a feel good moment.  They had the government on the ropes several days ago but by playing to the Western media instead of taking the necessary steps agains the police and the leaders they allowed them to regroup and have lost the momentum.  The protesters get slaughtered from this point forward.  Dictators don't listen to reason.  The idea that you can negotiate with them or put pressure on them is folly.  They need to be dealt with "by any means necessary."

Agreed.  When they had Mubarak holed up in the defense ministry with about three hundred of his elite guard that was the time to take over all the other ministries, appoint a president and ministers,  announce elections in three months, announce a general amnesty for police and mubarak government officials, and start governing.

A very large chunk of the billion plus dollars that goes to Egypt, goes to it's military. The bulk of the Egyptian Military's weapons are US, and that includes high technology weapons like F-16's, helicopters, and M1 tanks. These weapons have sophisticated electronics and avionics systems that require US manufactured parts and technicians to keep in the field. In order to allow the US contractors to pump up their balance sheets, a lot of information is not relayed to the end-user of these weapons. So, a General Dynamics or a Northrop maintain maintenance crews in these countries to keep the equipment going. So, the US not only has that billion dollars to bargain with to get the Egyptian military to force Mubarak out, they have the practical ability to reduce their military's force-projection and defense capability to a much lower order in 90 days or so. In addition , they can stop selling them bombs and ammo....an F-16 without bombs and main-gun shells eventually becomes impotent. For a country that worries about an Iran and an Israel, this is a big deal.

Been following, this is the location the al Jazzeera camera is pointing to from one of the hotels on the left, over the approaches to the bridge, controlled by pro-Mubarak:

http://tinyurl.com/6yjpjp9

Tahrir square is some distance, so the network does not have the correct information here.  The anti-government protest outweighs the pro-Government by an order of magnitude.  This is a minority trying to wrestle control of the revolt from the media.

The media have been chased out of the streets in the meantime, so they have no news feed to offer, so we are getting filler until the sun rises and the cameras go back into the street.

WTF? You are talking high ideals etc.  If we get involved then we are meddling.  You want to pick the govt?  None of your business - it is the Egyptians business.

High moral ideals and actions of Americans?  You live in an incredibly corrupt country now being looted by people like Obama, Daley, Rahm et al with Daley of JP Morgan's payroll and Rahm on Goldman Sachs.  So if you are expecting morality and ideals from America then forget it.  That was dying pre-2008 and died in late 2008.

As far as who the good guys and who are the bad guys in Egypt? You don't know and no one on this message board knows.  People just sucking up CNN and the other TV and news media liars propaganda.
