Explosion Rocks Main Athens Jail

Tyler Durden's picture

Just when you thought things in Greece could not get any stranger:

There was a large explosion outside the main prison in Athens on Thursday, Greek police said, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

"It was a really strong explosion that was heard kilometres away," said a police official, who requested anonymity.

The top security Athens prison is in the Korydallos suburb, west of Athens.

Who cares anyways about Greece? When this thing is over and Europe and the rest of the Western world has sucked Greece of all its money, Turkey can just overrun the country and take it over.  It's filled with Turks anyways and obviously through their numbers they will run the show. Carry a DAO(or DA/SA), a round in the chamber.   It is the only safe way.   Generally you don't have time or dexterity or both hands free to get a safety off or rack a slide with adrenaline going.   Have an extra mag on you, because generally in a state of focused fear you'll empty the first one, swearing later you didn't even hear the shots.   The extra mag might save you from an accomplice or from your own poor marksmanship.

Bombs go off at Korydallos every other month. This prison is a joke. Greece's most wanted criminal Vassilis Paleokostas and Albanian convict Alket Rizaj escaped Korydallos high-security prison on Sunday by helicopter, in a repeat of their Hollywood-style escape from the same prison in June 2006.

An idea of G-Pap is going to take place. A joined cabinet of Greek and Turkish Gvnt officials!!!!!!!!

The Media must have something to distract people from this act of diminished sovereignity, by the Greek Gvnt.

Anyway, the acts of terrorist groups, like EA, are very helpfull for the Gvnt. Every media will be busy with terrorists and pay less attention to the Turkish delegation and thw deals that they do with this Gvnt of selfclaimed "antiauthoritarians in power"

The Sex Pistolakis have released a new song "Anarchy in the Aegean".

Fascinating report yesterday...40,000 tourist bookings were cancelled last week in Athens due to the riots. People generally aren't attracted to places of chaos, disorder and violence unless they are clinically insane. Imagine a beautiful old house is going to rack and ruin. Termites eating away at it. No-one can be bothered to do the upkeep and there are no plans for rejuvenation. The residents have become lazy and no longer can see the potential of the place. One little old man decided to turns up and start work. He encapsulates the beliefs in a work ethic, production. faith, hope and civic concern like the best parts of the American tradition.

Where is that old man in Greece right now ?

If you can’t control the most dangerous people in your community things can spiral out of control very quickly. If the police, prison and security authorities lose their will to serve and N17 et.al. are allowed free reign all hell will break loose. After the terrible firebombing deaths of the three people in Athens a brief period of reflection transpired. The brains of various people shifted to another gear pretty soon after. Many machinations and alliances are being considered over an ouzo and coffee. The zeitgeist in Greece is interesting. The “Internationalist Comrades” will try and make things spill over the borders. Oh to be a world leader again ! The various pragmatic, intelligent and proud cliques will form partnerships and allegiances to suit their purposes. They will do everything in their power to defeat who they see as the enemy. There are some Greeks who are smiling quietly to themselves about the violence because of what it may lead to. Some people are enamoured of violence. An over-interest in a pathology is a pathology in itself however. (Greek : Pathos, for 'suffering' or 'experience') The passion and action on display inspires them and renews their faith in the primacy and global importance of Greek culture and history.

Was it the Roman Playwright Seneca who said “For whom the Gods wish to destroy they first make mad” ?

Mad Greeks and Mad Dogs should not go out in the midday sun...

Actually the pigs have been releasing cons into the system for a while now. They dump them in the YMCA. A couple months ago, I was walking home from a concert, and there was a tall guy threatening to stab passers-by and making threatening motions on East Houston St. during a crowded night.

In my adult life, I have never seen the city so on-edge, threatening, and dangerous. I'm prepared and courageous, but I wish that I was in a safe, sane country instead. The police are also becoming far more aggressive in terms of arrests, ticketing, and sport-fucking restaurants.

They will turn it into Beirut or Baghdad before they release their hold on power. And now the crazy-bomber brigade is out in force, making things even worse.

brotha man, not to harsh your buzz, but the city is disneyland compared to the 80's.  i'm guessing you are a young feller, coming back from a concert at mercury lounge maybe?

you ever hang out in alphabet city?  its trendy central now, not so long ago it was AWFUL.

http://www.citypass.com/97th/ny-neighborhoods.html

In the early 90's a friend lived on 8th and B, it was full fledged mayhem.  Heroin dealers everywhere.

Javits center, just a boring area now, when I was a little kid (8-12) I used to go to the car show every year with my dad; hookers flashed us and offered services (and orafices) the whole walk.

My grandfather had a biz on 28th and B'way, got robbed a few times, and had to punch clowns out on the subway other times.

Not saying that it can't go back to the bad old days (though I would love to see hipster punks complaining about how the city has lost its "edge" pummelled by thugs) in a few years, but we are still in disney mode.

The main point is do not let one nut on houston affect your viewpoint. you want to see hell on earth, jump on a train to newburg. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/12/nyregion/12newburgh.html

hell, i was on 55th and madison at 2pm a couple of weeks ago and some lunatic started screamin in my face he was gonna kill me b/c i raped the earth of its resources and that Caucasians like me were the devil.  i just gave him a wink and kept on walkin.

serf,  you're right, newburgh's a pit of despair.  i think that's where Ghouliani shipped all the malcontents back in the 90's.  followed the Hasidic playbook.   it's a shame really, it could be quite a beautiful place.  amazing old-school architecture.  lots of land w/ good soil for urban gardening.  lots of young people that just need a constructive outlet for all that high-fructose corn syrup fueled energy.

and yes, it's still "mickey mouse meets manhattan" though there are glimpses of the old days here & there starting to emerge.   hopefully just enough to scare away the transients without reverting back to travis bickle town.

either way, you're dead on that how one reacts in a situation is the key element to how one perceives it.  instant karma baby.
