Explosions And Gunfire At Iraq Central Bank Leave 15 Dead, 40 Injured

Tyler Durden's picture

Looks like Iraq has had enough of fiat experimentation. Press TV reports that explosions and gunfire at the Iraqi Central Bank have left 15 dead and more than 40 injured. No reports yet if any copies of Hayek's Road to Serfdom (incidentally, #1 at Amazon.com) have been found at the scene. More from the report: "Those behind the attacks on Sunday
triggered eight explosions and took hostages, prompting a siege at the
bank's whereabouts, AFP reported.
Bank workers comprised most of the casualties, said one defense official.
It is yet to unclear whether the assailants had meant to empty the vault, destroy the building or target the employees.
Late last month, 15 people died during a deadly rampage of a series of jewelry shops in the southwest of the Iraqi capital." Is it time yet for an alligator infested moat to be built as a precaution around the offices at 33 Liberty?

They are harmless. Until they aren't. I also open carry very publicly at least once a month, which has a tendency to attract flies. But I've been doing that for years. I will say that "activity" has gone way up during the past 6 months. And I've also had "visits" when I wasn't home. What can you do. All is fair in love and war. From my conversations with other activists, this is all just intimidation. Either you are frightened away or you're not. I'm not.

I stick out like a sore thumb in my small community. Some people don't like it when I won't tuck my tail between my legs and skulk away. Most of the people who live around me are government workers or government contractor workers. Many are so frightened they will lose their security clearance they don't make any waves. And I'm considered to be such a big wave maker that they're concerned about their own boats.

I've had people cross the street when I'm out walking while carrying. And some of these are nearby neighbors that I've known for many years. People are very frightened of the government and their own livelihood. Perfect time to be a Fascist.

(hmm... gold, god (any god), honesty, truth, and obama/bush/clinton/bush+ & FDR progressives have been destroying this country - jeez clearly what a loon he is - none of that's happening... in fact, we're in a recovery, etc.). and who out there might want you to shoot the messenger?

clearly a dangerous idiot and influence, esp. if he's succesfully recommending Hayek's propaganda.

heh. sorry folks, feeling testy today.

I won't junk you but believe me, he has no interest or understanding of gold or it's value.

He's a shill for greedy sellers of gold coins at usury level premiums... nothing more, nothing less. Same as his "principles" and all his other paranoid ranting... he's using his followers for the ratings and the money.

Ironically, he IS the "false profit" he accuses the President of being... enjoy it while it lasts... he has a limited shelf life!

Mon, 06/14/2010 - 15:30 | 413126 i.knoknot
i.knoknot's picture

SRV,

<rant on>

i'm not sure why i'm bothering. perhaps it's to let others know they're not as alone as they've been led to believe. i'm certainly *not* going to convince you, as you've clearly drank the NYT kool-aid, and are here to propagate the belief GB is somehow tainted and not-cool, so he must be *entirely* wrong, *everything* he says is bung... yeah, yeah, yeah, - same old talking-points and buzzwords (shill, paranoid, false-profit) as the entire move-on machine uses each day, all day. you don't watch GB at all.

in the late 1930s over millions of Germans thought their leadership was on the right track too. sheeple. couldn't happen again, not here... we're a different kind of human now. we don't respond to fear/power that way... clearly superior intellects. ya.

so, with all due respect, *unless* you are a move-on troll, i believe you are *exactly* who i am referencing as the unwitting targets of the perpetual GB smear campaign - and this isn't tin-foil stuff. 'they' want to shut him down. now. they sponsor progressive seminars on how to "stop the GB nightmare". last week. washington DC.

but why? why the death threats on him and his family? is it because he's completely wrong? heh - think about it...

goldline? i don't know much about them - good or bad. they buy and sell gold to people, and i hope they charge a premium (gotta pay for that GB advertising, etc.). so do the folks on e-bay. so should you. free-market. caveat-emptor.  what a user-er. wow. bad man. GB *always* says 'do your homework'. he *always* says it... (and i'm sure that's because his lawyers tell him to...)

so, with him as an avid buyer of gold collectable coins (no capital gains, etc.) he's not a *real* enough gold investor for your taste?

was it the AP/NYT/CNN/MSNBC coverage of House Member (D) Weiner's goldline accusation that makes you so sure? did you happen to glance at weinerfacts.com (a GB hosted site, BTW), about the issue? or are you just trolling - little bird droppings to discredit your effective move-on foe?

so he makes a zillion in advertising with a gold company. and your grumble is??? if his audience is so dumb that they're buying Hayek..., why do you care?

don't you like real capitalism (not the US brand)? hmmm

what about the water purifiers he sells - or the food storage company - or select-comfort beds (is a good night's sleep *not* a good investment? :^)

so - let me see... he speaks of god-given liberty (not the government-given kind), he highlights the ongoing crumbling of this country under a series of 'progressive' leaders (we're all equal in every way, except us leaders, ala orwell), he recommends that you insure yourself both monetarily and physically. he promotes a belief in most any 'god' (i'm deist/agnostic), he promotes honesty and integrity, he promotes *peaceful* revolution, he has little faith in our government and/or it's financial management. he's even skeptical about Ron Paul... GB doesn't seem like he's *that* extreme in any way, to me.

sure he's often shrill/quirky/simplistic, and in a few places simply wrong about the economics he describes, but if he's opening the eyes of millions to Hayek, and the Real US founders (vs the revisionist versions), don't you look like a turd for trying to shut him down simply for his gold advertising? what's your *real* agenda?

and you yell at him for selling gold through someone *you* think charges too much? can i therefore assume that you think *nothing* else he believes in is worth a listen? and that *you* believe the US is doing just fine? it's all hunky-dorey?

if so, why do you 'read' ZH at all? that disconnect alone raises interesting questions...

your presence here is no accident - who is paying you?

</rant off>

yeah, i know, my opinions are now worth 40% less for defending Glen Beck. ooooohhhh darn. junk me junk me junk me

Is it coincidence that Iraq's Central Bank was targeted yesterday?

Not at all.

The Iraqi Dinar is about to revalue anytime as the new parliament meets and chooses the new Prime Minister. The UN Security Council meeting on Iraq's Chapter VII sanctions is scheduled for tomorrow...afternoon. IMF and CBI agreements have been signed, Iraq has been receiving tons of gold ingots & frozen assets from Saddam's era, in addition to IMF loans to back its currency. The CBI has been buying back trillions of dinars in the last few months thus removing liquidity. Iraq will have a strong currency: it's going to happen very soon.

I have invested in a few hundred thousand Iraqi Dinars with what's left after making the car payment with my unemployment check.  Should I buy gold or platinum? I'll get land, farm machinery and livestock.

Wow, you bought into the Iraqi dinar scam, huh?
