In the first quarter, the US economy grew by 3.7%, revised up from an originally reported 2.7% increase. But growth estimates all the way back to the start of 2007 were revised lower. Moreover, the level of real GDP in Q1 was revised down by $100 billion. Does this mean the secular bull market in bonds will continue? And are Treasuries the "last diversifier left"?

The Japanese economy operates on the assumption, soon to be proved false, that the government will always be able to borrow at low interest rates. As internal demand evaporates, the government will have to start hawking its debt outside Japan — in a more realistic world, where interest rates are a lot higher.

Dear Mr. President, You don’t know me, but I was one of the millions of Americans who voted for you in the last election. I have since been fairly critical of your Presidency largely because I, like many others, feel betrayed by the policies you have enacted upon winning said election.

How much to buy you Mr. Watt?

I'll chip in too! If we make a pool and have every unemployed American donate just ten cents, I'll bet that it will add up to more than the sum that Mr Watt is selling his country for.

These jackasses at congress are barely millionaires. All them put together wouldn't make a good goldman bonus.

Remember what happened in the past when Wall St. didn't get it's way quickly (or had it's interests seriously threatened)?  That's partly the lense that I view last fall's meltdown through.  Could it be time to look out below?

It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.... Josef Stalin

Ron Paul would seem not to grasp the above principle. At 70 + years of age, he really ought to start to try.

Certainly you realize that it's all in how you cast your vote.  I'm sure Stalin realized that too.

Well, one thing's clear, that if Stalin had ever invited a fool like Paul to one of his evening dinners at the Kremlin together with selected members of the Politboro, initially he would have given him free reign to express himself in the dinner conversation. He might even have showcased Paul while doing so. Deceived into the impression that his viewpoint was being tolerated, Paul would have been lured into a false sence of security. Only then would Stalin have moved against him, arresting and interrogating him and eventually seeing to his trial and execution. Something similar awaits Paul's legislation, already gutted into meaninglessness at this point. As to Paul himself, he is entertainment to the ruling clique.

And whoever planted the warfarin in Stalin's evening meal was voting, too. And in that moment undid 30 years of opinion making and propaganda in one fatal stroke. Pun intended.

And a most awful pun it is, comrade cougar-w. :-)

The drug story is, at best, apocryphal. There we're claimants to be sure, Beria, I believe, but these would now seem to be 99.9% puff. And Beria was shot, of course.

It's called "identity politics" and works at the macro level, thusly:

There is no "us" there is only "we" and we know who we are. And the rest of you suck.

what are the odds we'll get a vote at 4pm? just curious if this is a mere formality, or if there's more politics in store.

Also what was the procedural answer, I missed it - which thing is being voted on first?

I just finished listening to the 1994 tape version of The Creature from Jekyll Island. Its amazing how prophetic it is . It explains everything going on today in the financial system to a T. I encourage everyone to listen to this or buy the book . Its basically the bible for the plutocracy, you know, its god’s work outline.

When you have an hour to sit in a quiet place put it on and listen will full attention. I wish I had remembered it last summer . I would have seen that I forgot the blueprint but they didnt, all a part of their cyclical plan.
