First Video Report Of China's Bullet Train Collision
CNTV has released the first video of the horrific crash in which two bullet trains collided and 4 train cars fell from viaducts. The full clip can be seen below (after the jump)

Ironically, the Chinese ad I had to watch prior to the video was of a fake Nike brand for shoes and tennis shirts.
They should have paid the Germans to do their trains instead of just stealing German technology, serves them right

what matter is that China rises and west is falling like it or not thats a fact ...none is claiming they are fighting fair .... but who cares right? at the end what matters is who rules... then the victorious writes the history ....

The death toll on Utøya island was first reported as 10, once the gunman/gunmen finished it didn't take long to be revised to 84. This might be the same situation.
On the other hand perhaps they were only travelling at low speeds?

WENZHOU, July 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 people were dead and 89 injured after two coaches of a bullet train fell off a bridge after derailing in east China's Zhejiang Province late Saturday, local police, firefighters and hospital sources said.
The train numbered D3115, running from the provincial capital Hangzhou to the southeastern city of Fuzhou, derailed at the section of Shuangyu Town in Wenzhou City of Zhejiang at 8:34 p.m.
The accident occurred after the train was hit by lightning and lost drive, and then rear-ended by another bullet train, the official microblog of Hangzhou TV "News 60 minutes" program quoted a local railway official as saying.
The Ministry of Railways confirmed at 11:20 p.m. that the D301 train from Beijing to Fuzhou rear-ended the D3115 train. The first four coaches of D301 and the 15th and 16th coaches of D3115 went off the line.

This rescue operation seems so unorganized. Just sheer manpower, like everything Chinese.
Oh, I see, IT WAS AN ACT OF GOD (if you can say that in China) not shoddy workmanship by a centrally planned economy.
The accident-causing error appears to be lack of fail-safe design. In a fail-safe signal system, a positive 'track is clear' signal is required. Otherwise, the emergency brakes automatically stop the train. So when lightning shut down the power, the trains would have stopped.
On the contrary, China's signal system seemed to assume that it was safe to proceed unless a 'track blocked' signal was received. But with no power, no such signal was received. Kaboom!
If this design prevails throughout the thousands of miles of high-speed network already built, it will take months to retrofit it. Meanwhile, what appears to be a basic engineering error will seriously set back China's ambitions to build high-speed rail in California and elsewhere.

Maybe when your own mother dies in a car accident, others will see the local newspaper article the next day and complain to the editor that it's a waste of time, too.
While you are right that this may not be Business Insider worthy, which instead will focus on news of Amy Winehouse' death (in a 20 page click-generating powerpoint presentation), it sure seems to be Financial Times front page material.

no I didn't delete (just kidding about the mother stuff) My point was that as tragic as a train derailment and associated deaths it really isn't news worthy of ZH e.g. people are getting slaughtered and brutalized every minute, though CNN and Business Insider love these kind of stories

The trains crashed into each other, thus proving they actually exist, and aren't mirages (like those skyscrapers in the last couple of months). This means that, unlike many Chinese paper assets, everyone should jump long into CRIC-bonds as a) the company assets exist!! b) they EXIST!! and c) they need more (rolling, or not so rolling, its a magnet) stock

The Chinese made some mistakes, no doubt. When they fix them, they'll have a better high speed rail system and we'll still have crumbling infrastructure.
govt officials have already teared the carriage apart with excavators and buryed it with injured and dead people inside at site. No attempt to investiage the train and no attempt to remove corpse from it. A surviving 2year old girl found when they teared the carriage apart with excavators.
