Flight To Safety Is Back - 1 Month Bill Is Now Negative

Tyler Durden's picture

The one month T-Bill is now trading negative (-0.01%). Year end window dressing is either woefully early or late. Flight to safety is woefully right on time. Lehman redux.

Is this similar to what happens during an earth quake where various animals all run in one direction thus indicating you too should run?

Yea, but run to what? I've been reading you for a long time DH. You match almost exactly my age, background, etc.

Do you think we are in danger of another money market run for fears of "breaking the buck" again on various money market mutual funds? We now have no FDIC back up on them. And the talk of reverse repos on money markets scares me as well.

I'm tired of running. Where to next?

I stopped keeping money in money markets quite some time ago.  Is there a danger of another mm run, buck break?  absolutely yes, there is that risk.  in my trading acct at ML, all funds are swept to an FDIC insured account.  frankly, i am comfortable leaving funds in an FDIC account.

wait for a confirmation GH, if we breakdown and the S&P goes below 107, then yeah take some safety in cash... if you start to run today go out a bit further on the curve but keep tight stops or just play it smart and stay in cash, too much going on to engage in herd behavior.

Maybe the deer standing in the road staring frightened at the oncoming headlights just got plowed, and that scared the herd into a stampede.

If the 10 year experiences a technical breakout (on price) below 3.57% yield, TLT is close to breaking it's 50 day sma as well.... bond land is getting sexy today and my mouth is starting to water as the premium kicks up in those calls.... :) 3 days in a row TLT has tried to break out above $92 to get slapped down.

lol - i ve been sleeping very well lately, betting against risk, with a great entry point north of 3.8 on the 10 yr, and finally being aligned with the government.

it feels good to no longer be a martyr.

I get what you're saying :) Should be interesting end to this week... I would love to see a meltdown smacking the poop outta the bond shorties :) I just hope they don't try to sneak in the debt limit raise during this sideshow.

this means money market accounts are not considered safe anymore. otherwise why would someone pay more just to receive his own cash 1 month later

Why would anyone in their right mind want to do this for 6 months running. Oh, that's right, to insure they actually can get their cash back. Of course unless your Chinese, from Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, or the Middle East you'd go long into equities. Otherwise you want your damned money back.

Someone has to push the "end of the world" arguement and it might as well be him.

Its not a valid arguement but we all knew it would be made.
