She's basically saying stuff that Bush or her husband might have said.... that's consistent with long standing U.S. foreign policy in other words.   If the "good guys" win in Egypt this will make Hillary look stronger than Obama (who is missing an opportunity here), especially once he tries to come out and take credit for it after the winner has been decided.

So far the only mention of the military firing on protesters in Cairo was on Fox news, and almost all other news feeds say effectively the opposite, that the military defended the protesters and engaged the police. As of now, the military that entered Cairo in full on tanks is actually the presidents guard, and they are being cheered and hailed. They headed for the TV station but there is no exact word what they did when they got there.

Please note that this is a rush translation from the Saudi owned website Elaph.com which has been vociferous in its criticism and occasionally sensational reporting regarding Syria, Iran, Hizbullah and Hamas:

“Calls for protests in Damascus and Aleppo…”

On January 28, the Anti-Syrian, Saudi owned Elaph website carried the following report: “The Islamic, Democratic Independent Movement in Syria, one of the components of the Alliance of the Damascus Announcement for National Democratic Change, has announced the organization of a “wide and major” protest in front of the headquarters of the People’s Council (the parliament) in Damascus on Saturday the 5th of the upcoming month.

This puts Hillary in a real uncomfortable position. She's got to pretend to care about the Egyptian people while holding together their strategic assets in the area. I think the people are no longer interested in the strategic interests of the US or their puppets. I don't know how they can stop it. They've lost control. People are realizing that they can make the change in an abrupt fashion if they refuse to stand down.

CNBC contributor Erin Burnett said Friday that oil prices would skyrocket if countries in the Middle East broke out from under the rule of brutal dictators.

Appearing on a Friday broadcast of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Burnett said that the ongoing revolution in Egypt could threaten US interests in the region due to Egypt's history as an ally on matters pertaining to Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.

She added that as one of the most developed economies in the Middle East, it was surprising to see many of the society's wealthiest individuals supporting regime change. Tens of thousands of protesters across the country have taken to the streets the last few days, demanding President Mubarak resign.

"One more thing," Burnett remarked. "If this spreads, the United States could take a huge hit because democracy in a place like Saudi Arabia, you've talked about who might come in power, what that means for oil prices. They're going to go stratospheric."

"There's no doubt about it,' MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said. "No doubt about it!"

While the White House has been unusually quiet on the situation in Egypt, President Barack Obama said yesterday that Egypt's leaders must be more "responsive" to their people.

Vice President Joe Biden, during an appearance Thursday night on PBS, also claimed that President Mubarak was not a dictator and should not step down.

Yes, they can never be allowed to become independent strong nations. That is against the official plan. However, it seems to be spreading faster than they can react. The state department has probably gone full retard trying to figure out a game plan.

That is free entertainment. I have never understood people who go to movie theathers to get fun. That is better than any hollywood comical line.

But at least, that is a stroke of sincerity. How many times US citizens enjoy faking a support to democracy while they only hope for dictatorship?

Yeah, I happened to catch her last week on a "news show" being touted as being on the "financial" beat or sumpin...LOL.

She actually said the debt is not a problem because household assets dwarf the debt...I ain't lyin.

MS. BURNETT:  They want, they want debt, debt in focus.  And we do have a debt problem, and I think we all know that.  But I think one thing that doesn't get talked about, that maybe when we're feeling really bad about ourselves relative to China and the rest of the world, is even after the financial crisis with the 20 percent drop in net worth in this country, you've got $63 trillion in household assets.  Our debt's $13.5 trillion. So we can cover that.  We are a very, very wealthy country.  And we can deal with these--what you call the big three:  Social Security, Medicare and defense. We have to put a real plan out there.  But we don't have a
crisis right this second on debt."

Ummm...WTF is she talkin about? My household assets have nothing to do with government debt.

Very, very bad things have happened to people who have attempted to touch my household assets.

And I ain't lyin about that either.

You can set up ad-hoc networks with just enough wireless adapters. It's not easy but not super hard. It works better if you have a bunch of wireless n devices as they have better range. In fact it's likely what kind of internet we'll have in a few years. Just as a way to strangle out the media companies.

http://communication.howstuffworks.com/how-wireless-mesh-networks-work.htm

Everybody that has 2 computers or more and a couple wireless adapters should set one up just for fun. I actually networked 2 computers with rs-232 cable before so I could play orcs vs humans with a neighbor. Because sometimes you just have to get your soldering iron out even if you got boxes of ethernet adapters and thousands of feet of cat 5. Because silly net rules.

It's exactly the opposite. The revolts in the moslem nations are not against 30 year dictators.
It's against the oppressive system that has kept them under SUBMISSION for over a thousand years.
This was never about money.
This was never about power.

This is truly the demise of a religion we are witnessing.
This is how gods die.

Neocons are just trash, just like progressives--and any other partisan monkey that sucks up that political bullshit.

These downies will give up what remains of their souls before they ever rock the boat.  America will have no revolution -- there'll only be the decay and atrophy of what used to be.

The rest of the world might fight with whatever they've got -- but we'll just take it.  The America that's 'sold' to the rest of the world, and the America that actually is, are two different things.

My take on Mubarak’s initial comments:  I give him a week.   His operative phrase was “we will continue…”

He essentially is telling the thousands of protesters: "You made a mistake."

Mubarak's "I have ordered the government to step down and I will name a new government tomorrow" means a new cabinet.  But that won't be enough.

Exactly. It seems to me Mubarak did everything wrong

What I thought was interesting about the speech was that it was a total aboutface.   Mubarak said none of the concerns of his people were the government's fault; he said we’ve been working on freedom, and we don’t have chaos but that the protests are creating chaos and this is dangerous but the people have security… And then he said he understood the people’s worries but that he also had responsibility for keeping order.

And then, just when the speech is about over, he abruptly states: I’m shutting down the government today and tomorrow we’ll have a new government. And he gave no reason for creating a new government. It almost sounded at first that he was resigning

All the while, the whole speech was just making the crowd angrier and hotter.

It looks to me that he is being pressured to step down and that he wanted to go on the record that he is doing well.

Heh, Obama comes out and makes a speech that says nothing...as per usual

He's basically sitting on the fence; he supports the Egyptian citizens to protest for a new government, and at the same says the current government needs to provide what Mubarak promised.  That doesn't even make sense

I hate getting political but all in all we have pretty good here compared to Egypt and most places. Also, what freedoms have we lost under Obama? Really, I'd like to know cause I dont feel less free and people say this all the time but never say what freedom they have lost. And im talking fundementals not taxes. Taxes have been around forever get used to it they aint going away and in any event they have been lowered under the President. I defened Bush too on other sites when he was President when people said he was a tyrant. He wasn't and we didnt lose much freedom under him. I just think it's all about conveience. You may have lost some conveniences like thru the TSA. But flying is not a right. I would say being not blown up because people dont want x-rays of the junk taken a right.
