Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: White House Cabinet Member Suggested Killing an American Service Man to Justify War

George Washington's picture

Washington’s Blog

On Monday, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Hugh Shelton told told Jon Stewart that a Clinton cabinet member proposed letting Saddam kill an American pilot as a pretext for war in Iraq:

And see this.

This might seem, at first glance, like just an odd, one-off suggestion.

However, as reported by the New York Times and other newspapers, George W. Bush also suggested to Tony Blair that a U.S. plane be painted in United Nations colors so that - if Saddam shot it down - it would create a casus belli. As the Times wrote in 2006:

The memo [confirmed by two senior British officials as being authentic] also shows that the president and the prime minister acknowledged that no unconventional weapons had been found inside Iraq. Faced with the possibility of not finding any before the planned invasion, Mr. Bush talked about several ways to provoke a confrontation, including a proposal to paint a United States surveillance plane in the colors of the United Nations in hopes of drawing fire ....

And it's not just the current war in Iraq. As I've previously pointed out, war is always sold to it's people by artificially demonizing the enemy:

Countries need to lie about their enemies in order to demonize them sufficiently so that the people will support the war.

That is why intelligence "failures" - such as the following - are so common:

  • It is also now well-accepted that the Gulf of Tonkin Incident which led to the Vietnam war was a fiction (confirmed here).

And governments from around the world have admitted that - for many years - they have used false flag incidents to sell their people on the wars they wish to launch.

For example:

  • A major with the Nazi SS admitted at the Nuremberg trials that - under orders from the chief of the Gestapo - he and some other Nazi operatives faked attacks on their own people and resources which they blamed on the Poles, to justify the invasion of Poland. Nazi general Franz Halder also testified at the Nuremberg trials that Nazi leader Hermann Goering admitted to setting fire to the German parliament building, and then falsely blaming the communists for the arson
  • The CIA admits that it hired Iranians in the 1950's to pose as Communists and stage bombings in Iran in order to turn the country against its democratically-elected prime minister
  • Israel admits that an Israeli terrorist cell operating in Egypt planted bombs in several buildings, including U.S. diplomatic facilities, then left behind "evidence" implicating the Arabs as the culprits (one of the bombs detonated prematurely, allowing the Egyptians to identify the bombers, and several of the Israelis later confessed) (and see this and this)
  • As admitted by the U.S. government, recently declassified documents show that in the 1960's, the American Joint Chiefs of Staff signed off on a plan to blow up AMERICAN airplanes (using an elaborate plan involving the switching of airplanes), and also to commit terrorist acts on American soil, and then to blame it on the Cubans in order to justify an invasion of Cuba. See the following ABC news report; the official documents; and watch this interview with the former Washington Investigative Producer for ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. Official State Department documents show that - only nine months before - the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other high-level officials discussed blowing up a consulate in the Dominican Republic in order to justify an invasion of that country. (While the Joint Chiefs of Staff pushed as a serious proposal for Operation Northwoods to be carried out, cooler heads fortunately prevailed; President Kennedy or his Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara apparently vetoed the plan)
  • The South African Truth and Reconciliation Council found that, in 1989, the Civil Cooperation Bureau (a covert branch of the South African Defense Force) approached an explosives expert and asked him "to participate in an operation aimed at discrediting the ANC [the African National Congress] by bombing the police vehicle of the investigating officer into the murder incident", thus framing the ANC for the bombing
  • An Algerian diplomat and several officers in the Algerian army admit that, in the 1990s, the Algerian army frequently massacred Algerian civilians and then blamed Islamic militants for the killings (and see this video; and Agence France-Presse, 9/27/2002, French Court Dismisses Algerian Defamation Suit Against Author)
  • According to the Washington Post, Indonesian police admit that the Indonesian military killed American teachers in Papua in 2002 and blamed the murders on a Papuan separatist group in order to get that group listed as a terrorist organization.
  • The well-respected former Indonesian president also admits that the government probably had a role in the Bali bombings
  • As reported by BBC, the New York Times, and Associated Press, Macedonian officials admit that the government murdered 7 innocent immigrants in cold blood and pretended that they were Al Qaeda soldiers attempting to assassinate Macedonian police, in order to join the "war on terror".
  • Former Department of Justice lawyer John Yoo suggested in 2005 that the US should go on the offensive against al-Qaeda, having “our intelligence agencies create a false terrorist organization. It could have its own websites, recruitment centers, training camps, and fundraising operations. It could launch fake terrorist operations and claim credit for real terrorist strikes, helping to sow confusion within al-Qaeda’s ranks, causing operatives to doubt others’ identities and to question the validity of communications.”
  • United Press International reported in June 2005:

U.S. intelligence officers are reporting that some of the insurgents in Iraq are using recent-model Beretta 92 pistols, but the pistols seem to have had their serial numbers erased. The numbers do not appear to have been physically removed; the pistols seem to have come off a production line without any serial numbers. Analysts suggest the lack of serial numbers indicates that the weapons were intended for intelligence operations or terrorist cells with substantial government backing. Analysts speculate that these guns are probably from either Mossad or the CIA. Analysts speculate that agent provocateurs may be using the untraceable weapons even as U.S. authorities use insurgent attacks against civilians as evidence of the illegitimacy of the resistance.

  • Quebec police admitted that, in 2007, thugs carrying rocks to a peaceful protest were actually undercover Quebec police officers
  • At the G20 protests in London in 2009, a British member of parliament saw plain clothes police officers attempting to incite the crowd to violence

There are many other instances of false flag attacks used throughout history proven by the historical evidence. See this, this and this. The above are only some examples of governments admitting to using false flag terror.

And the Boston Massacre occurred because colonists pushed British soldiers to their breaking point. Whether you do it yourself or simply provoke the other side, history is replete with false flag incidents or "engineered" provocations.

Sometimes by people following their holy books, more often by people who have abandoned them in their hearts.

This is what happens when a foreign army is in one's own land. They kill innocent people and they get wacked. We of all people should know this by now, but I guess we will never learn it. Idiotic soldiers tell me, well we disagree with you, but we are fighting for your right to say what you want to say. I say oh really. May I ask you why you think you are fighting for me doing what it is you do?  This type of question distorts the brains of these brain washed fools and causes them to go somewhere they don't like to go to. What if, what if, we were lied to? What if we got all of these medals for nothing? What if our friends died for nothing? What if we killed innocent people who have never done anything to us?  What if the whole damn 911 thing was one big lie and we were lied to about these wars and we were lied to about terrorist and insurgents and all of the other stupid silly ways they call people who dare to oppose us? How dare you to ask such questions plains. How dare you.  One day when they come here (and they will) I will ask them again. What are you doing here? Why are you doing this?  What country is this?  When does it ever end?  Is it more important to you, to do this illegal job, and get a check, than be unemployed and walking the streets, look for work, look for work, with personal integrity and personal honor intact. Too long now, such character issues have been swept under the rug so to speak and as we look back, we can see just how important such things were to men. Honor and integrity were part of a man's intrinsic self worth. Therefore sir, it was their sacred honor that and it was the principles of liberty that caused us to fight the Brits that illegally invaded our country. It was the sacred honor and integrity of religious Iraqis and Afghans to fight us when we invaded their countries without reason. Honor and integrity ladies and gentlemen. Two long lost qualities that can still be here. We need them now more than ever in our government, in ourselves and in anyone who handles our finacial issues. Mark my words, the day will come again, when the pendalum swings back to center and real men and women step forward and do what needs to be done again, as it was done in 1775.

I still find it sadly amusing that the military and political reach of the US Empire's armed forces around the world is now so broad that we have to distinguish "homeland security" from the security of all those American invaders and occupiers in 100+ foreign nations.

Face it, you so-called "patriotic" sheep who blindly and automatically accept and endorse every aspect of the US interventionistic and militaristic foreign policy: 99% of what the US military engages in is not in any way "defense", but is in fact OFFENSE.  The US does not really have any "Department of Defense" (an utterly Orwellian name) --- it is the Department of WAR.

When one reflects on the historically inevitable outcome of the "Pax Romana", the irony in the blind arrogance and historical ignorance of those who support the so-called 'Pax Americana" is positively breathtaking.

This is why they don't want the draft back. Why do they need it?  They have a adequate supply of brain dead robotic volunteers for their zionist mercenary armies to do god's will. All things are good, as long as it someone else's son, who dies, it is someone else's son  or daughter who is severely wounded, it is someone else who is killed in their own country fighting our armies soley because they have the nerve to want us to get the hell out of their countries and leave them alone. We live at the behest of the military industrial complex. We make the toys for the generals to play with. We populate their armies. We go to our govenment jobs and do nothing all day and get paid for it and when someone we know gets fired or layed off in the private sector we say, well, it sure must be fucked ot be them. Yeh, this country is a real piece of work these days.

Interesting comment.  I have an acquaintance who is a hardened Vietnam Vet and he is always trashing the military and the troops.  At first I bristled at his venom, but after some time he simply explained to me that these are volunteers.  They get paid for what they do.  He was a conscript, so honoring his service was warranted.  I'm still of two minds about the issue but it's worth thinking about.

Well its like I tell them. Its not your service or your bravery that I question. It is the reason why you are having to do the things that you do. I ask them. Wouldn't it be better for you to be here in the states practicing and preparing for the time when you are needed according to constitutional boundaries?  This is something they cannot fathom. I was talking to a young man who lives next to a friend of mine. He told me he stayed up all night to 5:00 AM playing computer war games. Is it any wonder why we have so many willing volunteers who go do bad things and call it in defense of my liberty, which it is not. I also ask them. Why do you fight for my liberty and say you are trying to spread democracy,  at the point of a gun abroad ,when here they are taking away my liberties? These questions confuse them to no end.

the astonishing admission is that someone in government acknowledges that the usa is a terrorist nation but the calculated effect was to tear into the clintons....after having fallen for the assange hoax i will not fall for this allegation against the clinton administration although i loathe it as much as i do any other administration....i believe that hillary has been targeted - the cable leaks from assange were clearly cia leaks meant to embarrass and discredit her...i am not sure if she will go peacefully into the night or if the cia will murder her....

i am no hillary fan but i loathe and detest our terrorist leaders....

if you want to know how the obushma administration is murdering iraqis then watch the videos on www.collateralmurder.org  ...you will get sick....

remember that the soros-rockefeller-gates-buffet-bankster-fed-cia axis of evil intent on world domination.....and no, i am not leaving out the bush-cheney-rumsfeld-carlyle group crime syndicate...

a most appalling study from the rand corporation is calling for war....the rand corporation is advising the military industrial complex to launch a war as though it needs any goading

With Hillary it all goes back to the time when she hugged Suha Arafat in 1999. This pissed off AIPAC and the ADL, royally. They have long memories and I predict they will never allow her to get any headway in her quest for the Presidency or any other office they don't want her in. After all, it is they and they alone as of this date, who control and run our government and run our military establishment and our clandestine services.

How about stop supporting the evil that calls itself government? As long as the idea that people have to be controlled for their own good by authorities, then so does the tyranny it supports. As soon as this idea is no longer seen as truth, then evil loses its chokehold over mankind.
