France Grinds To Literal Halt As Authorities Impose Fuel Consumption Restrictions
The strike that was supposed to be over two weeks ago refuses to go away. In the meantime, we get the following headline: "Local French Authorities say have imposed fuel consumption restrictions for the public in Normandy due to shortages." And yet Sarkozy promised that the country has more than enough fuel to last it through the strike. How could fearless leaders be possibly lying?
More as we get it but pretty soon it seems France will literally grind to a halt.

The wealth of 120 million americans is currently being held by a fraction of a percent of the top elite. The elite obtained this wealth through fraud and complicent actions of our US government. The American people should absolutely have more time to persue their free time with more of their earned wealth. I am not defending slouches by any stretch. I am simply saying that the privaledged few are working off of the backs of the people more than the lazy welfare mom spitting out 8 babies to increase her welfare check.
So which system of government has ever stopped the elites from doing that?
Pity the poor Progressive/Socialist/Decepticrats that EXPECT Big Brother to save them -- I choose to laugh to their face about their folly!
Seems ok here in Strasbourg. We filled up as normal this week.
They imposed fuel restrictions in the innermost parts of Normandy (Argentan for example, a very small town)...so lets not blow things out of proportion and sensationalise :)
Awwww!
Can't live without sensationalizing. Welcome to ZH.
According to NYT right now: "...only 14 out of more than 200 depots still blockaded."
Doesn't sound like a complete "standstill" to me. Thanks for the first person account. We need more of that here.
Repent! The end is near.
un point c’est tout!
ZUT ALORS!
Banks can't have unemployed French waiters serving Russian Cocktails...
Just think of the losses for the French insurance companies with all those cars getting torched every day.
Oh, the humanity!
Dr, I have a hard time embracing a people who want to do nothing but live an easy life while millions starve daily worldwide. This is regardless of their nationality... so you want to make the means of production virtually no-cost and accessible to all, along with land and an extensive simplification in the licensing and organization of trade?
Not at all. I am saying the few elite that have thieved their way to the top are a greater threat to the overall financial stability of a country than welfare sucking lazy pants. Neither side of that spectrum is in the right, but one causes more issues than the other. The banksters have been living off of corporate welfare that far exceeds the theft of social welfare. The fact of the matter is that the banksters want the finger pointed towards the lowest rung of the socioeconomic ladder as opposed to looking at the biggest thieves of all.
to richard Head
The welfare sucking lazy pants as you call them are NOW middle class families....The comments I hear on the French system on your side is mostly old capitalistis clichés, when actually very few people understand what this system is all about.
I wasn't giving analysis of who comprised the lazy pants. I was pointing to who the true problem creators are and it is not the welfare recipients. In fact, I agree with your statement. The system is designed to create more lazy pants to be forced to rely upon the system for their savior.
The entire point is that the 99.9999% of the population needs to point its anger at the culprits - Banksters that control the Congress and Pres and the worldwide conglomerate special interests. There are more of US than there are of them.
The corporate welfare is causing the problems, not the social welfare. Social welfare is an unsustainable system too, but as long as corporate welfare can run rampant through secret channels of the central banks, the social welfare be forced upon all and the social welfare available will shrink as the population dependent on it grows. This is by design and until we address the corporate welfare aspect of it we will not be able to reduce the amount of population dependent on a mirage.
yes but the problem is as you say ...the mirage, we are entertained and conditionned to be dependant on many sorts of mirages...that's the problem, that's the way the Elite wanted it..they got it. People are manipulable at will. Consommation societies are made of mirages.
Right on schedule. Next up, moving from trucker slowdowns to just parking in lane for a nice roadside picnic as high school and more and more college kids, with their professors start to burn more tires while tossing over ripe cat sand at authorities.
When we see the on the left flow through Marseilles get seriously impinged is when we'll see more deployment of strategic national stockpiles.
Meanwhile, stock up the Montrachet Isobel. It might be a bit before supplies return to normal and I know gin & ginger ale aint it. Perhaps a nice flight to Bermuda since the south of France looks chancy, or whould you prefer a nice walk in a Praga district park?
In any other country this might be an interesting/worrying turn of events. In France not so much
Only thing I like about the French is fries!!
Otherwise, the Gualist's should go back to Rome.
What changes were introduced by reforms in 2003 and 2007 ? in 2002, projections established that with the population aging and the retirement of baby boomers, annual déficit for all the plans would reach 50 Bn euros by 2020 and over 100 Bn euros in 2050. In 2010, projections reach even 70 Bn euros by 2030, and 102 Bn in 2050.

So, we have to find 50 Bn by 2020 and 100 Bn in 2050...okay
(13 oct. 2008) :
In conformance to the Europgroup Plan, the State decided to allocate paying guarantees for bank credits up to 320 Bn Euros, and to allocate 40 Bn Euros for the recapitalization of banks in difficulties. This massive engagement is up to the scale of the problem we are confronted to today said Sarkozy.

Threrefore, France has an envelop of 360 Bn for banks of which 40 Bn for rapid cash... BUT...For the Retirement plans, we all work for, finding 50 Bn in a decenny is not possible !! Yeah, right.
What's wrong with you people? Soundz like ya'll don't know who and what's important over there! No wonder you're runnin' 'round causin' so much trouble.
Seriously, does it look like the protests will lose wind soon?
Think of it ... two weeks and the French leadership have not surrendered! If they hold out a couple more weeks, they will have bettered their performance during WWII. That is truly remarkable.
A few time ago, Sarkozy said "now, when there is strike in France, noone notices anymore".
Looks like he was (again) wrong.
If you need facts and debugging about this topic, I'm a french journalist.
Now, he's gone on a way where we will see escalation in violence/confrontation.
So I made a special pin's

They wouldn't fight the Nazi's, oh no overrunning of country not worth it. Cost of war was too high a price to pay. But now finally at last we find out what they will find a backbone to stand up for. Retirement at 58!! Viva La France.
When the interest income and capital from the periphery of Europe colapses- the core will be in deep trouble.
The ECBs only choice will be to raise the Euro Gold Price to at least the M1 price to protect the core treasuries of Europe.
If France has most of its Gold under Manhattan island then I will eat my shorts - although the Atlantists are now dominant withen Sarkozy's administration.
The recent defence cooperation with the UK makes economic sense but is disturbing to the remaining Gaullists withen Paris - maybe cooperation extends beyond the defence sphere........
What the French do have a few of is nukes ... could it be that a few are pointed just to the east to help make the case that the major player in the euro needs to go along with the rest of the gang?
Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic.
