Freefalling Dollar Sends Silver Above $46

Tyler Durden's picture

At this rate the Hunt Brothers all time high to be taken out within a week...or a day, right about the time the dollar suffers terminal implosion. The DXY is now below 74.

What will be Fed's options then? Let's see:

  • (Pretend to) end QE.
  • Blame it on quake.
  • Blame it on MENA.
  • Blame China (again).
  • Bang the CRIMEX like 2008.
  • Stick their head in the sand and pray.

The Fed still believes it's in control.  It's got a button marked "jack rates up", that it *claims* it can use -- but knows full well that it cannot.  Greenspan tried to raise rates, the market shat the bed, so he brought rates back down, retired, and handed the ticking bomb to Bernanke.

For all of his subterfuge, Bernanke completely understands all of this.

What I believe he fails to understand is just how fast the dollar can collapse beneath his feet.     The game he is playing is beyond dangerous.

The USGovt claims to have 8000 tons of Gold in reserve, but it is all in Deep Storage, as in unmined ore bodies. The collateral for the USDollar and USTreasury debt is vacant. It is in raw form like in the Rocky Mountain range or Sierra Nevada range

This news should start to propel gold even higher and the dollar lower to.

How do you put something in the books that still needs to be mined?

US Goverment Enron Accounting at it's best...

Do you have a reliable citation for this claim?  The reason I ask, is that no. is suspiciously close to the alleged amount of gold held by the USG on behalf of the Federal Reserve at Ft Knox (the remains of what was seized by FDR in 1933, or about 261 million oz).

Given the kleptocrats in charge, I do not doubt that this gold too is gone, but claiming it's in Ft Knox is a different animal than making the wild claim it's in "deep storage."  The first is at least potentially disprovable, the other is laughably ridiculous...even for government.

You cannot prove that the US has 8,000 tons of gold because they will not allow an audit. So, the US Gov claim is equally rediculous as the deep storage claim.

If the gov really has the gold, lets do an audit and prove it, otherwise as far as I am concerned the gov has no gold.

My fuzzy math says the drop in the DXY roughly tracks with the increase in the US Monetary Base. Assuming I am not totally off here, isn't this how things are suppose to work? You make more of something and this drops its value? I don't have a Ph.D. in economics from MIT, so I am probably just missing something here.

New loud stirrings by Saudi Arabia seek a new security protector. If security is no longer provided by the USMilitary, then the entire defacto Petro-Dollar standard is put at risk. Remove the crude oil sales in USDollars exclusively, and the US sinks into the Third World with a USDollar currency that cannot stand on its own wretched wrecked fundamentals.

There are a few possible outcomes as we move forward. One is that the economy weakens, and the Fed decides to leave interest rates unchanged, or even to initiate an additional round of quantitative easing. In this event, it's quite possible that we still would not observe much inflation, provided that interest rates are held down far enough. Unfortunately, the larger the monetary base, the lower the interest rate required for a non-inflationary outcome. T-bills are already at less than 4 basis points. In the event of even another $200 billion in quantitative easing, the liquidity preference curve suggests that Treasury bill yields would have to be held at literally less than a single basis point in order to avoid inflationary pressures.

ANYTHING HIGHER THAN 200 BILLION IN QE3 = BOOM DOLLAR AS IN BYE BYE DOLLAR!!

I wonder when the time will come when rising silver causes the dollar to fall. Maybe that time is already here.

Honestly, I thought the powers that be would have pulled the rug out on this a long time ago. That didn't stop me from investing in silver by any means. It was more a matter of principle than anything else. It doesn't hurt that it has made me a rich man as a result. When it hits $100, I'll definitely think about selling, or perhaps trading. I don't plan to invest in sports cars or other nonsense. Perhaps I'll donate to a Ron Paul type or the American Third Position (American3p.org) and hope for a better future.

Shouldn't affect it at all. Silver in computers, electronics, etc is just plated onto contacts. Costs no more than pennies to a dollar for something like a PC motherboard, I would assume. Probably closer to pennies..

But of course, more complex applications would in turn use more silver; Military being one.

A silver oxide battery (IEC code: S), also known as a silver–zinc battery, is a primary cell (although it may be used as a secondary cell with an open circuit potential of 1.86 volts). Silver oxide batteries have a long life and very high energy/weight ratio, but a prohibitive cost for most applications due to the high price of silver. They are available in either very small sizes as button cells where the amount of silver used is small and not a significant contributor to the overall product costs, or in large custom design batteries where the superior performance characteristics of the silver oxide chemistry outweigh cost considerations. The large cells found some applications with the military, for example in Mark 37 torpedoes or on Alfa class submarines.

Pumping up the precious metals and setting up the suckers for the option expiry on tuesday.

They are driving the USD index down and pumping up everything else. This process will continue till there are no long positions left in the USD index and no short positions in any of the commodities, stock or currencies other than the USD.

The operators are then likely to take the long position on the dollar and short position on everything else. They would then use their money power to move the markets in the direction which would get them the maximum profit while screwing all other traders / hedge funds / investors.

Silver parabolic? Bullshit. Ask ten random people the silver price and maybe one will be within ten percent.

On that note, I haven't seen it anywhere reported but my contacts in Japan says JT (Japan's largest and most imaginitively named tobacco conglomerate) has completely ceased production and they have been cleaned off the shelves, even in the relatively untouched west. Maybe their drying facilities were up north?  I'm going out to buy me a carton at the local Japanese tourist trap...they still have a few cartons. Just wish I smoked.

Thanks a lot.  Learning so much.  Honestly, it feels very strange to be seriously contemplating and acting as if our system will break down.

But the numbers.... the freaking  amount of $ created are mind-boggling.  Catastrophic inflation?  There would have to be an incredible destruction of value to have deflation in the face of that much $.  But that destruction of value would be catastrophic, as well.

Looks like we're headed for  a shit storm, or, on the other hand, a shit storm.

I've gotten to the poitn where I say nothign to anybody about my metals/guns/body armor/food. Did for a while though. anyhow, keep quiet on the metals, bud. This thing looks like it's going to crash big and you might end up becoming a target in hard times, even by your own acquaintences. As far as the M4 goes, I bought a Ruger SR-556 in about January. Never shot one before, and got the thing zeroed real nice and have put around 350 rounds through it. Now we're getting a Saiga-12 converted. My wife's an ex-cop and is very good with the .45. She recommended (indirectly) that I get body armor, which is what I recommend to you. level 3A new is about 350 dollars now. level 4 ceramic inserts front and back add about anotehr 300 to it. groin armor is abotu another 120. and you can even get forearm guards level 3A for about 270. Crazy talk, right? Get some head cover too, a good PASGT helmet or the level IIIA version is availab for cheap. Wife's recommendation agin, as she indicated she'd go for head shots if she saw somebody wearing armor. Take care, bud.

This is from an email I sent to a buddy of mine. Links:

As far as the companies, bulletproofvestshop is located in Israel, the guys' great. I bought 3 level 3A vests, one of which has a pair of ceramic plates (My wife and I split the set). Each has a groin protector (look at the link that has 'yes, please' next to it).

Far north tactical is okay. Some of their stuff is used, but workable. Avoid the face masks. There's better stuff out there, I found out. Not their fault. Their stuff is fine. I"ll post another link with the helmet/mask combo that i like.

level IV http://www.bulletproofvestshop.com/products/Body-Armor-External-BulletProof-Vest-%252b-2-Ceramic-SAPI-Plates-Level-4.html

Level IIIA http://www.shop.farnorthtactical.com/Second-Chance-Body-Armor-used-LEVEL-IIIA-309.htm

this stuff is used, thought. Might go another route.

Yes, please

This stuff has neck/shoulder protection, but it only IIIA. Understand this is for a major civil instability scenario where wearing this stuff outside the front door won’t matter…

The Turd had a good article on where he thinks the next round is going. He is thinking somewhere from 42.50-43.50 and then start moving to 50. Here is a comment from one of Turds followers, which he followd up on.....

Turd Ferguson said...

Turd,

Another pattern to recognize in spot is that in the last $12 drive in silver, we have seen increments of $4-6 from bottom to top, then decreasing $2.5 and increasing another $4-6.

3/8 - High 36.36
3/9 - Low 33.66

3/24 - High 38.117
3/28 - Low 36.36

4/10 - High 42.00
4/12 - Low 39.81

4/20 - High 44.82
4/??22 - Low ???42.82??

This is eye balling it, but this gives you a good idea.

Does this make any sense?

Yes, TF

For everyone who asked, here is the article that gives the information I based my guess JPM will smash silver down between Friday and Tuesday:

http://www.zerohedge.com/article/options-risk-manipulation-and-may-silver-40-calls-fmx-connect-special-parts-1-and-2

My guess is, JPM will do what they typically do when their obscene silver short positions are grossly underwater and option-time is about to arrive.  Clobbering the price of silver down is especially effective when volume is light... which it will be from friday through tuesday.  Thus I expect a massive knock down until tuesday, then off to the races again sometime between tuesday afternoon and the end of the week.  It's a perfect setup for them to clobber and disillusion silver bulls.

If this plays out, likely the time to back up the truck and convert every last fiat penny to physical silver will be after their knock down.

Yes , I think there is only one vendor in town - they are on the expensive side but professional.

If you get a allocated account however it better be in Switzerland.

I worry that domestic holdings are considered the property of the state as the central banks have sold their Gold in Europe but keep it on the books as theirs.

If shit really hit the fan the "we own your ass clause" will come into operation.

I would prefer a situation where you could own Goverment securities but when the state bailed out the shadow banking sector the writing was on the wall.

In short there is really no protection against these bastards  - they control everything.

Silver may be the best however as they don't own it............. yet

The dollar is a joke in your town, it can't even hold up against other monopoly money.

When the $ index does go up so does silver and gold.  What does that tell you.

What weighs more, an oz of gold or the equivalent in $20's?  At a gram each it's the paper that tips the scales.

Your savings is now worth half as much as it did 2 years ago.  If by quantitative easing they mean an economist defecating all over the currency, then promotions all around.

Silver up over $3 in less than two days.

When the serious run-up began a few weeks ago, I was just as happy as every other silver bug (having bought most of my silver in the $15's), but the current US$ decline is happening way too fast.

I know we like to joke about the "Mad Max" scenario, but how many of us are truly prepared (both financially and psychologically) for such a world. Frankly I'd rather see the steady gains in PM's we've witnessed the first decade of this bull market.

I can't help but think we're close to witnessing the final scenario from "Rollover:"
