Full World Cup Spread

Tyler Durden's picture

For the soccer fans out there, attached is a World Cup calendar by Marca.com which provides an instant view of every day, match, team, group and stadium. By far the best one stop shop of catching up with everything happening during the tournament. And with that, there is only two hours left until the US-England game...and many, many BP halftime commercials.

Typo in that first sentence Tyler.  You wrote soccer fans; plural. I think that overstates the audience for this mind-numbingly boring sport.  But who am I to talk about overstatements, I just called it a "sport."

Exactly, we have 4 sports here in the US (HOCKEY, Football, Baseball, Basketball). It's been that way since middle school. The boys pick one of the 4 sports, and the girls play soccer.

As European who lived in US for 12 years, I can appreciate American football and understand why it's more popular than soccer.  But baseball??? Jesus, the most boring, slowest and useless game on planet earth. The only game where broadcaster has to have great talent to keep people interested.

Official reason: precisely because that's the english "national" team, not the british team.

Real reason: because they wouldn't have a chance playing with just a single national team like everyone else, so they play with 4 (still not having a chance).

The Union Jack is a composite flag of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). When taking part in the Olympic Games or World Wars, this is the flag we use. However, in really important events, like the Football World Cup, the four nations compete individually, and that is when the English unfurl the St. George's cross. The other Home Nations also have their own flags, although you would be unlikely to spot one at South Africa 2010.

I'll try to answer.  Yea, I really don't like pro-sports because like you say "too corporate", that too turns me off.

But I've lived in Germany since 2004 (and was here in 2002 as well), and I've really grown to love Fußball.

Yes, it is also corporate, but it is more like when I was at UMich going to see Ohio State come up to play or that faggot leprechaun prancing on the field when we kicked Notre Dame's ass.  This is certainly more of a raw feeling and atmosphere that you get only with college sports.  The Pros just cannot compete with that, they've already lost it, they're "too professional".  If you know what I mean.

It's not just the game, but the whole atmosphere that goes along with it.

But I still do love my Mets!

I agree with your impeccable math, UpShotKnotHoleGrable.

Problem is, I have been told by my rabidly fanatical soccer fan kids, that the U.S. was the first to qualify for the WC. They beat Spain, which was the #1 ranked soccer team at the time. How does that fit into your perfect little mathematical formula? If your math is right, this could never have happened. Go back and do a proof of your math. Einstein did. Made numerous changes to his theory of relativity until the math worked perfectly.

Relative to the BP Macondo blowout well in the GOM, the max estimate of leakage is 3.3 mmbbls if the max 40,000bbl/d flow rate is correct and relief well is completed in August.   Please note that in 1979 Mexico's Ixtoc well leaked 3.3 mmbbls over 290 days.   After 3 years the GOM marine/wildlife completely recovered according to Government studies.    The impact from the BP Macondo well will likely be less since the oil is being treated with dispersements at the wellhead (1.5 times as much dispersements as the oil flow) and on the surface.  The Ixtoc oil was not treated with any dispersements since they were not available at the time. The media never mentions the 1979 Mexican blowout and the fact that no significant harm was done to the environment.  However, this information will undoubtly be front and center when BP is sued in court.

Thank God I'm not that English keeper. This isn't as bad as what happened in 1996 in US vs. Colombia after Escobar's own-goal. But if the US's single brilliant shot in the 64th minute hadn't hit the post, tho, uh-oh.

On the positive side for the Brits, if the keepers were switched England would have won 4-0.
