Looks like the controlling forces woke up at 6am to bring the futures back closer to neutral (if not quite there). That will teach me to check futures at 4:30 before the morning run...

It takes a couple of minutes for the computers to fire up out of sleep mode @ 8 AM EST.  Check order volume (low=buy, high=sell), fade the firm's latest retail recommendations, make sure market stays above 10K, firm up the rental in the Hamptons for the summer, etc.....

Debord is awesome.  The Society of the Spectacle is a book for our times.  We don't crave wealth as much as the image of wealth, or the image of wealthiness.

Seconded.  I've had a copy of the Spectacle for years.

"The spectacle is the ruling order’s nonstop discourse about itself, its never-ending monologue of self-praise, its self-portrait at the stage of totalitarian domination of all aspects of life."

Brilliant.

I think Donald Trump read Debord [by accident] and used this book as a manual.

The valiant ECB fighting tooth & nail to save the Euro whilst almost everything else is hemorrhaging. The AUD being sacrificed not a good sign for commodities.

i think thats in their ELITE model [the one you have to buy].

those indexes are more arcane , naturally, the streaming of the values or even charting is more rare than you see in mainstream indexes. i find this http://www.livecharts.co.uk/MarketCharts/dow.php page valuable if you want to detach charts and follow values, and it offers a wide range of indexes to follow.

For those you mentioned, bbg would prolly have values on display.

Cheeky:

I've been reading your commentary and responses and I have become a fan. I should say that I am not a trader and don't pretend to understand short-run market dynamics. It's all I can do to think about the bigger picture. But your articles are cogent and well presented. I've been reading your specific comments on gold. You may want to think of writing a more comprehensive article on this topic since it seems to be of great interest to ZH readers. Since I don't really understand it, maybe a "For Dummies" article would help.

Good work!

Thank you very much. I also read your stuff and have become a fan of your writing since we had that little argument under the Taleb article you wrote quite a while back. Since then i haven't missed not one of your articles, although i comment only occasionally on the. Im also not a trader and have never been a part of the financial community, but my educational background helped me to learn what i could about the market, by reading materials, books and focusing more on the mathematical side of it to learn its fundamentals etc etc.

About gold; im actually writing an article which would summarize and explain how gold and gold markets work in general. I am focusing on the derivatives side of gold market and how those derivatives influence price etc etc. It will be up this week [and since it is quit long i will break it down in more chapters], but i dont know when since there is much material to comb trough. I want to get the clear picture and i dont want to miss anything which would attract people with different views to distract from the topic of the article. That said i really hope it will open up the market and the technicalities of the market to goldbugs who do not have, or can not access data regarding the same. Well if nothing else, it should be a fun read.

Well, thank you for the kind words once again and i wish you all the best.

Interesting that you're not part of the pack. Yet you have access to a terminal. Wow. Looking forward to the article since that is the hot topic.

CB,

Breaking down into chapters would be better

understood by average readers, imho.

Thx

As a fan of Taleb, I'm interested in reading that discussion.  If you'd care to, would you link me in the right direction please?

Isn't it magical how (certain) music can lift one's soul and mind? Every now and then I drift away from music only to re-discover it again. And I wonder what insanity lead me to drift away. Then I understand. It's the insanity that lead me away.

Sanity is gooder. :>)
