I leave you with the words written by Charles Bukowski and wish you a good night and a profitable day:

there is enough treachery, hatred violence absurdity in the average
human being to supply any given army on any given day

and the best at murder are those who preach against it
and the best at hate are those who preach love
and the best at war finally are those who preach peace

those who preach god, need god
those who preach peace do not have peace
those who preach peace do not have love

beware the preachers
beware the knowers
beware those who are always reading books
beware those who either detest poverty
or are proud of it
beware those quick to praise
for they need praise in return
beware those who are quick to censor
they are afraid of what they do not know
beware those who seek constant crowds for
they are nothing alone
beware the average man the average woman
beware their love, their love is average
seeks average

but there is genius in their hatred
there is enough genius in their hatred to kill you
to kill anybody
not wanting solitude
not understanding solitude
they will attempt to destroy anything
that differs from their own
not being able to create art
they will not understand art
they will consider their failure as creators
only as a failure of the world
not being able to love fully
they will believe your love incomplete
and then they will hate you
and their hatred will be perfect

like a shining diamond
like a knife
like a mountain
like a tiger
like hemlock

Jeb Bush!?!?!?

Can you see the campaign slogan or better yet would be the mud slinging.

Safe to say, no 'Bush' will ever call 1600 Pennsylvania Ave home again. & I would imagine, that behind closed doors, Jeb is none to impressed w/ that cold hard fact.

Get ready for Obama 2.0!!!

The Democrats will not go anti-gun again until after the next election. The President of  Mexico’s  speech not only bitched about anti-illegal actions but the “gun trade”. The main stream media avoided that part of the story. Boxer, Feinstein, Clinton and Schumer are all WAY too quite. This is one of the biggies of the left agenda, it will come soon enough. The Aussie talked about the loss of gun rights, you hear a lot of this. I was jokered the other day when I stated that the Constitution is in place (I forgot to include the Bill of Rights—dumb me). It will stand. We have a corner stone. There may be difficulty in retaining it, but let’s not get too upset before we get there (again).

But the good news is that the anti-gun push in California is still on. As California goes, so goes the Nation (in Democrat minds). Jan. 1, 2011, ammo sales will be restricted to (I think) 50 rounds a month with ID and thumb print, NO mail order of any quantity. Got a 1800s rifle with a hard to get shell, tough luck--- move. 50 rounds of 22 is not much for a trip to the range and makes the trip to the desert void. Presently, 9mm in Ca is about twice what it is in Or, Nv, or Az. The pre-squeeze squeeze is there. But who cares. Anyone with any sense left the state with all assets.

I have trouble getting into poetry, especially post 19th C. and anything that doesn't scan. I did like Buk's Notes Of A Dirty Old Man - especially the stories about run-ins with other characters of his era like Neal Cassidy.

Truth is not beauty.
Beauty is not love.
Love is not music.

William Carlos Williams - Danse Russe

If when my wife is sleeping
and the baby and Kathleen
are sleeping
and the sun is a flame-white disc
in silken mists
above shining trees,—
if I in my north room
dance naked, grotesquely
before my mirror
waving my shirt round my head
and singing softly to myself:
"I am lonely, lonely,
I was born to be lonely,
I am best so!"
If I admire my arms, my face,
my shoulders, flanks, buttocks
against the yellow drawn shades,—

Who shall say I am not
the happy genius of my household?

Just as a note to Lennon Hendrix and Gully Foyle on gun control:

The Port Arthur Massacre here in Australia (Tasmania) triggered a response of tighter gun control. Automatic and semi-automatic weapons were banned and there was a national amnesty to hand in your rifles. I remember the footage of huge piles of weapons being voluntarily handed over and crushed. It seems strange to think back to a time growing up here where most people with at least some kind of rural connection owned a gun. Now gun ownership is heavily licensed and i actually dont think i know anyone who owns one. Its now seen as kind of weird and extremist for someone to own a gun. I saw an online blog discussion where women were saying there was no way they could go out with someone who owned a gun, that'd be too 'scary'. Its common for both men and women to see guns as evil here.

Whats weird is that reading zerohedge has reminded me of how rifles and hunting used to be a part of how i was brought up but has now become completely demonized. I think the mere sight of a rifle now would cause most Australians to get a feeling of fear/anxiety - perhaps myself included. i dont think ive seen a rifle, in a shop or anywhere, in over 10 years and yet my friends and i grew up hunting with our dad's rifles when we were younger.

Im not trying to argue whether gun ownership is right or wrong or whether the Port Arthur Massacre was used as a tool to control people, just that our society has gone through a complete change from one of semi common gun ownerhsip to one of almost complete disamorment on a level beyond physical surrendering of weapons - to a point where the "idea" of guns, talking of guns, owning a gun, etc is seen as a fringe act that is socially unacceptable on just about every level.

Reductio ad Absurdum's picture

"our society has gone through a complete change"

The quick explanation is that liberals control the mass media and have used it to propagandize against guns.

A more refined answer would also include the fact that personal gun ownership is no longer the necessity it used to be (to supplement one's diet through hunting, or in the U.S. to fight off Indians and criminals on the frontier; furthermore, in the U.S. in the past every man could be expected to fight in at least one war, so knowledge of guns was needed for that, too).

Since you're in Australia you may not be aware that in the U.S. the right to own a gun is one of the most important rights given in the Constitution. This stems from the difficulty the revolutionary leaders had in securing guns for their rebellion against the British (see "Lexington and Concord"). Once the new government was in place, they wanted to make sure that future revolutionary leaders would have guns available if needed to overthrow the U.S. government, which almost happened during the Civil War.

I was watching a movie from the 1940's the other day in which a teenage girl is running away from some danger in a rural, wooded setting; she comes across a road and is relieved to see a man strolling along it; the man escorts her to the nearby town. What stood out in the scene was that the man had a shotgun, opened, resting in one arm as he walked along. The girl had no fear of the man, there was no suggestion that he might be a dangerous lunatic. Rather, he was a symbol of law and order; whatever danger the girl had been facing, she was safe now that she was being escorted by the man with the shotgun. My, how times have changed.

From the heartland - things are getting kind of edgy.  Everyday I speak mainly to rednecks (no disrespect, it is just a discriptive term) and I have noticed a definite change of tone from rhetoric to defiance.  These folks have always (well at least since the 60's) spoke of intrusive government but now I sense they have moved into that "come and take it" mode (reference to Texas militia in 1832 defying the Mexicans to come take their only cannon when the Mexicans request they surrender their weapons prior the battle of the Alamo). Gerald Celente applies this mindset to Brooklyn Italians when he says, "When people have nothing left to lose, they lose it".  I think this beginning to happen to heartland as more and more see no possibility of less government and only the possibility of more and more government.  It may not be this way in California or on the east coast but this is just my observation from the heartland.

this is why the bad debts were moved from the private

sector to the sovereigns, public sector.  the "banks" want the

people to disregard the idea that they are the government

and go into conflict with "themselves" while the banksters control

the money.  get it?  the trap.  of course the "representatives" of

government have been bought and are complicit morons.

The story about the carriers is a "non story". The Eisenhower has been deployed for the past six months supporting operation 'enduring freedom' (whatever this means).  The Truman is going out to replace it as  part of a process of rotation of resources.

Carrier Strike Group 10, headed by the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, sails out of the US Navy base at Norfolk, Virginia Friday, May 21. On arrival, it will raise the number of US carriers off Iranian shores to two. Up until now, President Barack Obama kept just one aircraft carrier stationed off the coast of Iran, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Arabian Sea, in pursuit of his policy of diplomatic engagement with Tehran.

I went to dinner in Redlands, CA last night.  On the corner was some lost soul with a bull horn, letting everyone know they were going to hell.  She kept going on and on and on.  It was driving business away from the downtown area.  After I had eaten a nice dinner I yelled out "Shut the Fuck Up!".  My wife was horrified.  I said to my wife, "Now the lady will never stop and we can have a really nice seat next week."

I am still going to hell.

I have a question, who invests in Weapons manufacturers?

We have seen amazing sales of guns and ammo in the US and we know wars are endless.

Other than the ethical nature, which is questionable in light of that whole second ammendment bugaboo, I can see no argument against this.

It strikes me if you invest in Medicine and Arms you have most of your bases covered.

...folks getting into a cheap, relaxing sport, or the economy is so f*&8 up that they need to eat.

Good luck to those folks hoping to come out ahead if they intend to save some money foraging off the land. After all the costs (boat, ATV, trailor, fuel, travel, licences, lures, ammo, etc.) associated with fishing and hunting is accounted for, you can buy a lot of food at the grocery store. Not to mention that many wildlife populations are stressed due to the intensive recreational pressure especially those within driving range of an urban area. And even if you get lucky, you will limit out.  Welcome to the world of scarcity.

That was a beautiful poem.  Thank you for sharing.
