Futures Now Green As Market Goes Parabolic On Galactic Federation Bailout Rumor

Tyler Durden's picture

Contrary to malicious rumors, Uranus has not confirmed it has enough money to bail out earth. Repeat: Uranus vehemently denies it will bail out the earth. In fact the Uranus Monetary Authority has ceased all diplomatic connections with earth feeling snubbed there was no gossip about it in the latest programmed Wikileaks release. Too late though: the HFTs are already in forward feedback loop mode, are buying because they are buying, and will close the market green on a straight line upward move. Futures are now green.

This is a redux of Nov 22nd.  Beware EUR-USD overnight action though.  Nov 23rd opened 15 points lower in the S&P from the moonshot close on the 22nd because the EUR-USD resumed selling.  The "strength" in the EUR-USD does not warrant this stock market rally, just like it didn't on Nov 22nd.

With continued EUR-USD selling overnight, we could gap down to re-test 1175 again tomorrow; however, that weakness could prove short-lived with good economic data coming (China PMI, ISM, Chicago PMI).

Nonetheless, we are still in the trading range 1175-1200.  The breakout, up or down, will be epic.  History suggests it will be down.

TIA.

Recent historical examples are Jan and Apr of this year.  After long bull runs, the market experienced sharp volatile trading, which was a topping formation.

SPY chart from April 15th to May 3rd shows the "Greece" top.  What followed was the Flash Crash on May 6th, then the $1 trillion bailout announcement by the ECB on May 9th.  Eventually, a S&P drop from 1212 to 1040 ensued over one month.

SPY chart from Jan 12th to Jan 20th is another example.  The S&P drop from 1150 to 1044 occurred over two weeks.

This potential top is more like the April top, in that we experienced a nonstop S&P upside barrage for approximately two months, culminating in heavily overbought RSI readings ~80 in SPY, which are rare.  We've had QE2 and Ireland bailout already.  The Euro is dropping like a rock, though to be fair, so far we have seen weak downside correlation (intensity-wise) with EUR-USD and SPY unlike we saw in April/May.  In other words, the SPY should be down much more after the recent move in the EUR-USD, which means the bulls are resilient so far.

Can't say for sure that we break to the downside of course, but sharp volatile trading after long bull runs is a key signal for an imminent reversal.  If 1170-1175 breaks, we should quickly move to the 200 day moving average near 1130.  I think we visit ~1200 one more time this week though first because China PMI and ISM releases.

Sorry for the long reply.

The 50-day MA held. As long as I'm in synchrony with market, I don't personally care about the direction. However, with SPY trading at 45.7 P/E and yield at a paltry 2.03%, we are priced for perfection. That's not a good place to be for long-term prosperity. We're setting ourselves up for another catastrophe. I'm convinced that Wall Street, after being endlessly but routinely bailed out over the past two years, is so drunk on the Fed's printed prosperity that they are oblivious to the risks. But the bigger they are, the harder they fall. And when they fall, it will be ugly indeed!

Is that Wall-E in the foreground?

That's not good. Since it appears he's done cleaning up Mars, that means he's ready to visit Earth. Which also means we're just about finished polluting it and we're ready to leave.

I call first dibs on the co-pilot's seat.

Someone give me 10 billion and I could have an effect on the market too.

The operative word is "might". Gotta maintain that plausible deniability at all costs.

U.S. stocks recoup much of day's decline

Part of what is happening this afternoon is the realization that everything happening in the eurozone is not as bad for U.S. equities as European equities," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at Jefferies & Co

Huge dollar strengthening creates massive move to commodities???  Hmm, I think I've heard 'bout this one in all the end of (dollar) times flicks / articles of late.

Best of all it's done on no volume on the down side and even less on the upside.

It's cool. I long ago stopped watching the market on a minute-by-minute basis.

Now I watch it on a nanosecond-by-nanosecond basis. I want to be able to forget about my long term positions while I blink. It's very comforting to know that I'm at zero market risk between synapses firing. I recommend this kind of long term investing to everyone.

The first mill to announce was U.S. Steel, which sent out a memo to their General Managers of Sales earlier today. The mill took prices up on all flat rolled steel products – hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized and Galvalume.

"Given the continued escalation of raw materials input costs and changing market conditions, base pricing for all new Flat Rolled Products spot orders is increased.....Pricing extras, as published on our corporate web site, will continue to be fully applied."
