I thought that started in 1982 alongwith the 401k/IRA programs to let the middle class participate in the stock markets.

Silly question: Are the proceeds from this IPO going to repay the government loans made to GM? If not, why not?
Depends who is selling their block of free trading shares first.
For all we know, Obama personally could be the largest single share holder and he's now pumping and dumping this POS.
For the government to recoup its investment, GM must achieve a stock-market value of $70B. That would be 10x GM's market cap before the company headed into bankruptcy court protection, and at least $30B more than the market value of Ford.
Looks like GM has ALOT of cars to sell.
More importantly do the unions get the IPO at a discount and are the bond holders getting skrude again?
More importantly... what are the Wall Street fees siphoning off of the mileage of this IPO?

Your charts, however, are misleading. What looks to be a beautiful chart, is in fact, supported by 50min and 200min EMAs technicals.
Why not go back to the 9th of August and show a price of 5.63? Or the day prior to your chart, with a closing price of 4.68?
That's a thin dime and a penny below your close today.

Come back to me in a year on solars. All I am saying is that some major activity goingon in that sector. Keep a close eye on it.

Talking about GM's IPO and Monkey Feces, ya'll gave me a blindingly brilliant flashback of when I was a kid living in England. On long bank holidays we'd ferry across to the continent and Germany was one of our favorite spots, particularly Koln where my dad had business. We'd always go to the zoo to see the monkeys.
The same monkeys, every single time we were there, used to take turns pushing their cute little butt holes up against one of the bars, way up high in the cage, and squeeze out a big softie when there were loads of people watching. Thing'd just slide down the bar much to the thrill, cheers and squeals of enjoyment of the Germans. And me. In fact, I think the monkeys did it on purpose. (Now, hold that thought for a moment, for it becomes significant later on, for this is ZH and we do speak of important financial and economic momenta here.)
And the Germans used to gather there at the celebrated, mystical hour just to watch, in Rapture, the monkeys poop at them. And we do know that the Germans did go on purpose, and liked watching monkeys shit at them, very much, for it was literally an organized ritualistic gathering. (Lebensraum?) (Second thought to hold on to, but just for a very short moment, for we'll get to the meaning of life in but a moment.)
Now you ask, what in the hell has this got to do with GM's IPO, which BTW, I'll bet you'd momentarily forgotten about. Well, everything, for the IPO (the Monkey Poop) is essentially the government (the Monkeys) giving back to us (the Germans and me who liked to watch the Monkeys shit at us/get shit upon, figuratively) that which was originally ours (the Monkey food) to begin with.
Moral of the story; Don't fail to enjoy watching the monkey squeeze a big one around the bars, for the GM IPO was done for your personal benefit.
