Gamma Radiation In Fukushima-Downwind Ibaraki Disclosed, 30 Times Above Normal
For all who have been looking for realtime radiation data from Japan, you are in luck. Or maybe not, as the data unfortunately indicates nothing good. The System for Prediction of Environment Emergency Dose Information (SPEEDI) releases gamma radiation data online. The site is jittery and apparently not suited for major traffic which is why we represent several screen captures of the data. While it is not surprising that according to the website both Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures are entirely "Under Survey" as it makes sense that the government does not want to generate panic, SPEEDI has disclosed some tell-tale data about cities in Ibaraki prefecture, which is just a hundred or so miles north of Tokyo, and is just south of the ill-fated Fukushima prefecture. And the data is stunning: based on a N, NE and NNE wind direction (where it originates), meaning all coming from Fukushima, with a normal reading in the 80 nGy/h range, the city of Kounosu Naka is at 3,024, Kadobe Naka is at 2,416, Isobe Hitachioota is at 1,213 and many others are in the mid to upper triple digit range! Again, this is based on wind coming out of Fukushima and ultimately headed toward the capital. Indicatively, normal terrestrial plus cosmic gamma radiation is about 80 nGy/h.
Below we present screencaptures as of moments ago, as apparently the Japanese government seems to believe that abnormal gamma radiation levels are perfectly notmal:
A map of all prefectures, showing maximum gamma radation readings. Note Ibaraki at 3,024 nGy/h, and Kanagawa right below it (and downwind) at 224 nGy/h compared to low double digts for all other prefecture.
Not surprisingly, Fukushima is completely N/A, as every single reading is Under Survey, also known as censored.
But the stunner is Ibaraki. We will let this one speak for itself:
As a reference, based on background radiation measurements in the lower atmosphere at
different altitudes above sea level up to 1100 m and over the land were
made at a temperate latitude (40°) in the Thessaloniki region, North
Greece, before and after the Chernobyl accident (26 April 1986), using a
portable γ-ray scintillation detector and a Cutie-pie survey
meter with an ionization chamber, the average value of the total
background radiation at ground level was 87 nGy h-1 (10.0 μR h-1, 25 cps), i.e. 60% from terrestrial radiation, 55 nGy h-1 (6.3 μR h-1, 15 cps) and 40% from cosmic radiation, 32 nGy h-1 (3.7 μR h-1,
10 cps), before the Chernobyl accident, while, after it, the total
background radiation was doubled, due to the long-lived radioactive
fallout suspended in the atmosphere and or deposited onto the ground.

I understand that the suppression pool on the number 2 unit has been damaged.
omg im so sick of trolls like you polluting my enviroment. this is no big deal...this is in fact good because idiots like you panic over non-events like this.

The best part of Saturday morning science fiction movies is where they have some kind of shiny atomic robot who can go over to the controls and just turn the energy reactor thingy up or down. Now you KNOW when that sucker goes from sounding like "mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim-mim" to "mim-mim-MIM-MIM-mim-mim-MIM-MIM-MIM-MIM-MIM!-MIM!!-MIM!!!-MIM!!!!", that it's getting ready to splode. That's when the good guy grabs the crazy scientist's daughter and gets the hell out. All your favorite Channel 9 or 11 movies have this part, or should.
Has Number 2 blown?
yea...so? no biggy unless the core lands in your lap. that might cause sperm that punch you, but you can punch back...so unless you panic and don't punch back, no biggy

965 microsieverts measured, operators evacuated, half the rods exposed, containment vessel possibly damaged, all on NHK http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/
"operators evacuated"
"containment vessel possibly damaged"
Now do the people of Tokyo evacuate?
And if so where to?
no, I can't find any mention of any containment being damaged. They do say they're concerned about melting fuel elements; they would know if there is that much residual heat available; it seems un-likely after this much time; but I suppose it's possible. Mentioning pressure monitoring; etc. efforts to inject water; etc. don't find any mention of damaged containment. There's no rationale for "damaged containment' nothing they mention is a possible cause of "damaged containment". Once again; exposed means above water level; inside the reactor vessel; it doesn't mean exposed to the great outdoors.
THIRD Explosion was heard @ reactor's site!
What time of Day/Night is it now in Japan?
If 2 is gone will we see it?
8:22am. TVJapan-NHK reported it.
Containment is not going well then.
Wonder how Ben's containment of inflation will go.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/japan-earthquake-reactor-fukushima-nuclear-plant-explodes/story?id=13131123
It just did it--and the news is not good. It's not a hydrogen explosion. There was still coolant available. God help Japan, and the rest of the world.
Congrats ZH. I believe your posting of US military high tailing it out of Dodge is almost exactly 24 hours later being reported on Fox -->
The increase in radiation is indicative of a problem (duh), which is naturally something to worry about. The situation could obviously take a turn for the worse at some point.
But the amount of radiation being reported is so close to harmless that we don't really have the ability to measure the difference.
I really don't understand what it is about the nuclear boogyman that freaks people out so much. Surprisingly, most of the reporting about the reactor problems isn't half bad, though, in terms of describing what is happening - the only real issue is the element of panic over the released numbers. Neither journalists nor the general public (many ZH commenters included) seem to have any context for them, so they immediately panic.
minus dog,
I completely fail to see how one could not interpret 3 out of 4 of the operational reactors at one plant becoming, how can I put this politely, fucked up, as not being a cause for concern.
I am astounded by the "it'll all be ok" meme promoted by some here.
It may not be chatastrophic meltdown.
But it is certainly not a walk in the park for Japan or its people.
there has nobody who has said "it'll all be ok." In fact, we have just asked the cretins to stop the hysterical EOTW talk over what was not justifying such a reaction.
Shit is OBVIOUSLY fucked up, but not sufficiently fucked up to warrant running around like a headless chicken.
yea! unless you see chicken with no heads running around don't panic trolls
-trav7777
Well trav....I understand one of the reactors is now in flames. Is it panic time yet? The E minis would suggest it is.
But I am a useless old fool who thinks reactors radiating the 3rd largest economy on the globe is actually a big deal...so go ahead and ignore an old fool.
Wait for the government issued explanation to be put out on Netflix next month....
Maybe us "doom-n-gloomer" types are correct sometimes? That doesn't necessarily mean that there's reason to celebrate.
The MSM are the ones who sound panicked right now.
trav7777,
You do realise that you have just jumped the shark with the "EOTW".
Let me ask you a question.
Do you care about the people in Japan?
no one panics unless they are fools. the plutonium rods need to be literally hovering over your chimney for any negative effects to be felt. go ahead and panic fools.

@bob_dabolina
Yoeman's work, my friend. There is so much shit spewing out of this Eminem wannabe trav7777, you could be re-posting for days. But I'm enjoying your work. I suggest travie go back to watching Teennick or whatever his kids let him watch.
Thanks Cursive/Lord Wellington
I hope to have a beer with you fellas when I'm irradiated.
I'm having a beer right now and listening to http://www.livestation.com/channels/123-nhk-world-english
Some of it is dull and it is translated on the spot.
But it gives a deeply disturbing impression of how the "officials" feel.
They are also "talking down" to the Japanese people.
Perhaps that is their way.
But I think they may have missed that the Japanese people are currently suffering from the trauma of a 9.1 earthquake and a once in a lifetime Tsunami.
More beer I think.
This kind of stuff scares the shit out of firefighters and hazmat response crews.
Are you volunteering to help clean this mess up?
Minus Dog, I don't have any idea how old you are. But your mind is exceedingly young.
Japan somehow survived two horrible nuclear bombings of two cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, at the end of WWII. Both were essentially obliterated; John Hersey wrote the definitive book on the bombing of Hiroshima. The few survivors, most of whom were ravaged by radiation poisoning, were looked upon as pariahs by the rest of Japanese society. The few who survived were routinely examined by the U.S. hospital in Hiroshima, BUT NEVER TREATED. They were viewed as collateral damage that was useful to science.
During the development of the atomic bomb in the USA, many workers were killed. Many others had exposures that eventually proved lethal, years later. This was also true of U.S. servicemen who witnessed the numerous bomb provings, both in the US and abroad.
The U.S. government lied to the volunteers in the post-WWII atomic missions regarding risk exposure constantly, as it did, incidentally, regarding drug experimentation, the most notorious incidence of the latter being the failed CIA LSD trials. Oh, and then there was the Tuskeegee experiment...and various others in Latin America. Just Google it, and educate yourself before you post evidence of your own ignorance.
Serious levels of gamma rays have already been detected from the Japanese site, and our own Navy has decided (publicly, for a change) to exit the area. That should tell you something, if nothing else does. God help Japan. My heart goes out to them all.
"The incident occurred at 6:10 a.m. and is feared to have damaged the reactor's pressure-suppression system, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said, citing a report from the plant's operator Tokyo Electric Power Co."
- OMG KYODO is reporting @ 8:22 explosion that happaned in 6:10, that's 2 hours lag news IN Japan!
- Steel shroom has been breached!
"Steel shroom has been breached"
Has it?
Any evidence.
well the Fox News coverage is not encouraging.
They've shown J tv with translations where they're talking (generally, it's hard to understand) about some kind of leak that is letting out water. Sounded like they were talking about the outer heavy containment barrier. So radioactivity in water exposed to atmosphere.
They kept cutting back and forth and clarity was not so good
Thanks.
If true.
Then we are half way between Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.
No a nice feeling.
I wish a more technically competent person were listening to the last 15/20 minutes of FoxNew. They were sure making it sound like the outer containment was leaking. They claimed that the J Govt. believes radiation is exposed to the atmosphere from this.
No, not a nice feeling at all.
This is I think a better NHK link.
Yes she is translating.
But the body language of the "officials" is telling.
http://www.livestation.com/channels/123-nhk-world-english
I recommend you look at it.
These people are shit scared.
All of them.
Tokyo could panic.
I listened to this carefully; but I don't agree with your premise. There's no indication that the containment vessels are damaged; the "translation" is extremely awkward. At least they only have one building left to blow up; the whole thing is kind of surreal; but I think the public health problem lies with food and disease and drinking water and the8,000 dead bodies lying around and not with the extra chest X-ray. It really is very likely that none of the pressure vessels will open up and the whole mess will just cool off. All the radiation comes from blowing off steam to control overpressure; and not from "leaks". Sooner, or later, hopefully sooner; it won't be necessary to blow off any more steam, because the whole mess is cooling off as time goes on. Cheers. Have a Youngers for me.

Assuming most of Japan is inhabitable after this mess, the cleanup and building boom is going to be years. With the IMF, World bank funding it and further indebtedness to the wrong people.
Evacuating all operators - not looking good. TEPCO officials won't even look reporters in the eye or answer questions...looks like they have lost pressure meaning potential breach?
That means all three reactor cores are in meltdown.
We'll know if they evacuate all personnel.
Of course we won't be told until 48 hours after.

Thanks, Michael.
No, really, thanks ...
.
Apparently they are concerned they might die from the explosion, but not from radiation.
Yes.
And so they should be.
Yes, well, dead is dead. They're getting "better" at demolishing buildings with hydrogen; No.2 was a real go smacker.
If TEPCO says "feared to have damaged the reactor's pressure-suppression system"
I would I assume it's worse than it is :o(
I just put in an order for 500g of ACS (reagent) grade KI (potassium iodide) from a local chemical supply house for about $73 plus tax. The USP (pharmaceutical) grade was only a few dollars cheaper, so I went with the ACS grade, which is more pure than USP.
From my research, 500g is good for over 3,500 adult doses and twice that for children from 3 on up, and even more for younger kids.
An adult dose is 130mg dissolved in 5cc (1 teaspoon) of water. A children's dose is half that. Children younger than three half again (32mg per teaspoon) and infants under 1 month 16mg.
You could mix 13g in half a liter of water (that is roughly half an ounce in 1 pint of water) to make 100 adult doses or 200 children's (3-12years) doses. For $73 you can keep your entire neighborhood dosed for days if a radioactive plume blows over the NA continent depositing radioactive iodide particles all over everything, including the top soil.
This radioactive iodine is absorbed by your system and deposited into the thyroid gland. By taking the KI supplements you will introduce non-radioactive iodine to your thyroid, and any radioactive iodine that enters your system will simply be rejected with no ill effects. You keep up the KI treatment until the radioactivity threat has passed. KI should only be taken if you are being exposed to radiation.
NOTE: DO NOT INGEST PURE IODINE AS IT IS POISON.
There are ways to apply pure iodine topically that will then enter your system.
Good information is at this link:
http://www.ki4u.com/plan_b.htm
I suggest people spend some time reading the various FAQs and other materials available on that site. Potassium Iodide pills are probably going to be very hard to find in coming days and probably very pricey as the supply runs out. There are not many pharmaceutical doses at the ready, so supplies will probably sell out quickly, if they haven't already.
Be prepared. I am Chumbawamba.
+ thanks, Chumba !!
It seems the markets don't like the news. Nikkei is in free fall, ASX200 retreating & SPX moving back down.

'crack in outer containment dome' being reported by Shep Smith
PLUTONIUM in Reactor #3 that blew yesterday, one of 3 in Japan using uranium oxide + plutonium oxide. Plutonium is extremely toxic, and may be in Ibaraki, upwind of Tokyo. Major media won't touch this yet. Look for MOX in searches. http://www.ww4report.com/node/9640
Also, reactor #2, with fully exposed core, supposedly got quenched with seawater, then blew up, also. http://blogs.forbes.com/jeremybogaisky/2011/03/14/breaking-another-explosion-at-japanese-nuclear-plant/
Major media won't touch this yet.

No. 2 reactor explosion
http://www.livestation.com/channels/123-nhk-world-english
TEPCO evacuating all non-essential personel.
They're likely evacuating those workers who choose to evacuate. There may be a few who are willing to give their lives in an effort to mitigate the disaster.
watching NHK now, 831a 8217 uSv/hr measured at the plant...apparently, this is a huge spike higher than what they were seeing previously, which were declining radiation levels.
Have to hope that they have not lost primary containment...they are saying that the entire fuel rods were exposed (aka, all coolant boiled off), they say they were able to get them 1/2 covered.
Likely this was another steam/hydrogen explosion like the others.
You will be proven wrong before sunrise in NY, NY. The lie game is already long in the tooth. The jig is up, and those responsible for controlling the beast are on the run.
Not sure what is up with your rosy colored lenses, Trav. Did you go and get long Japanese futures or something?
proven wrong about what? I am waiting to see the dosimeters go vertical before I conclude there has been a significant radiation emission.
8000 uSv/hr at the gate of the facility is orders of magnitude below what would be expected if core material has been ejected.
I'm not long Japan, I am long coal

Likely this is no biggy...leak in the radiator, move on trolls.

just reminding the civilians that "exposed" means above water level, inside the steel can, which is inside the concrete egg; it does not mean "waving around in the air". 1/2 covered is good enough. the whole mess will be cooled due to the high heat transfer of saturated steam. Yes, it was a hydrogen-air explosion; it's the only way they've managed so far to blow up their buildings. The hydrogen itself is forensic, of course; and indicates that there is gross fuel rod damage; but that is neither here nor there; Tokyo Power will have to clean up the mess; but damaged fuel tubes, actually they are tubes, doesn't mean anything for public health, because; once again, they're inside the steel can which is inside the concrete egg.
"1/2 covered is good enough."
Depends - core history and time after shutdown play very important roles in this. It very well may be "not good enough". When I read that statement on the Japanese news feed, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. Usually, in the simulator, when you get to this point the instructor yells "freeze!" and the real teaching begins. You learn where you made a big error. So, I cannot say for sure if a 1/2 covered core is good enough. I do know that you will fail your graded excercise at that point.
they evacuated all staff but approximately 50 people....
Snip:
"Maybe not Chernobyl, but certainly worse than TMI-2.
Japan NHK world news is reporting that the "pressure suppression pool" in unit 2 may have cracks and be leaking water. This "pool" is a big doughnut-shaped tank circling the bottom of the drywell, and designed to relieve gas pressure and pass it through water to absorb some of the bad elements before release into the stacks in an emergency. This tank is also called the "torus" or the "wetwell" (to distinguish it from the "drywell" that is the concrete and steel inverted light bulb containing the reactor vessel itself.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-MM7IaKX0OSA/TXyE4Dyb7SI/AAAAAAAAA_M/w...
Failure of the wetwell means that water injected into the drywell may leak out of it into the earth, thus reducing the amount of water available to cool the overheated rods. Japan admits that the rods in no.2 are already "uncovered" (by water) and heating up.
A key problem with the GE Mark 1 design (this unit was built in July, 1974) was that "debris" (read molten uranium/zirconium/steel) might collect at the bottom of the drywell and in the absence of moderators (boron rods) resume criticality. This fear probably is what lies behind the decision to inject borate into the reactor (boron-10 absorbs neutrons and moderates fission).
It's not clear to me whether the injection of seawater/boron will fill more than just the 2 feet of the concrete floor not drained by the large vent pipes. Assuming a large failure of the wetwell, it might be imposible to pump sufficient volume to submerge any portion of the reactor vessel.
The fact that Japan has now called on internationals to help them out suggests that the government has lost faith in TEPCO/GE/Hitachi to deal with the problem..."
:Unsnip
Thanks for the update.
Damage found on the roof of No4 reactor.
Full house.
Anyone want to put a positive spin on that?
Lord Wellington,
I think Trav does. Not sure...it has something to do with Disney Channel. Don't ask me, man.
Cdad
:)
Not at this point; thank you. As I said, they only have one building left to fuck up.
Before you jump to conclusions, on hype / fear:
http://theautomaticearth.blogspot.com/2011/03/march-13-2011-how-black-is...
No cnbc cretin,
Jump to conclusions? You mean a day of folk on the ground saying that they have no idea what to do, punctuated by another explosion and a reactor in flames...and I be pushing hype?
How many vaginas to you have?
dude, I would piss on this reactor if I thought it'd do a damned bit of good...
but panicking and bein hysterical even in the face of catastrophe don't do anything useful whatsoever.
I'm not panicking.
Though I must admit you do seem a little excited.
You should inform the Japanese Ambassador that you wish to offer your piss to the Japanese people.
Being polite he won't refuse it.
He will of course wonder how America created an individual like you.
LOL!
I tell you what, if trav goes to pee on the thing, I'll FedX some of my piss in to match.
@trav7777
It does no good to get hysterical about people that you claim are getting hysterical. Just makes you look like a loud mouth bitch. You would do well on one of those reality TV shows where they cram a bunch of lowlifes into one house and put a camera on them and it turns into divas and drama queens.
Futures are going up so that means it's worse than we thought.
Futures are going up? Ummmm...so are you now into straight disinformation Bob?
Well Cdad, futures sold off but then started to recover
/es sold off from 1292.50 down to around 1283 rose to 1289 but are currently sitting @ 1286...
I'm used to nuclear type disasters resulting in massive positive moves in the futures markets.
What firm do you work for, Bob?
Jacobi & Jacobi out of Tehran
Do they offer self-directed IRA's? :D
No...but they offer like...1,000 naked virgins...duh, winning!
+1,000 naked virgins. A natural.
"+1,000 naked virgins. A natural."
I noticed that he did not specify the sex of these virgins. Coincidence?
@Cdad
Not green, but off the lows.
Japanese futures now setting new lows....
@Cdad
Fair enough. I'm looking at /ES and probably so is bob_dabolina. I think we all share the same concerns and bob and I are never surprised at the PPT stick saves.
Japan 225 = 8918 and falling...rapidly.
As for stick saves...as soon as the radioactive cloud is up and running, I would suggest that you and Bob contemplate "paradigm change"...as the globe's 3rd largest economy goes to zero GDP.
As for the algo's that arbitrage to death every last ES thing on the face of the earth...ummm....that is so 2010.
As I have been saying...buy VXX [just measure the price dislocation between it and Vix spot...and you will understand where I am coming from]
@Cdad
I mainly follow SPX and I have no doubt that it will come crashing down, well below 666. I've just stopped trying to pick a date. Burned a few times on that misadventure.
Lets say Japan goes in the shitter, for a few months or longer because of this.
Could you see a mass exodus to the USA ? ? Someone will need to help them in this respect ...
If the majority of the island gets contaminated from MOX ect ...
Well, we do have lots of empty houses here. I'm sure BAC, C, JPM could help those poor Japanese people invest their insurance proceeds into something solid, say, maybe a highrise condo in Las Vegas for "only" $400,000.
You just have to look on the positive side, like our banking leaders do.
Since you brought up the PPT, are you referencing the old PPT (Plunge Protection Team) or the new PPT (Pump Priming Twits)?
Big difference, you understand, and I hear they are working opposite sides of the NFL negotiations.
Plutonium oxide MOX fuel in reactor #3 story is on CNET, still not picked up by majors.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-11386_3-20042852-76.html
per CNN the explosion sound came from inside the 'suppression chamber' unlike first two. This supposedly from a press conf from TEPCO.
Think this nuclear disaster should teach us all a
lesson about black swans.I honestly don't know
much about these shit, but I am scared as hell.
Maybe this time around we will get away with this,
but what about next time.Do we really need a few
meltdowns to stop playing with fire.We do have
choices to harvest clean and save energy.
WTF are you scared of?
You ever heard of the Bhopal accident? Where do you draw the line? There ARE no clean energy sources sufficient to power modern society.

good thing you don't use semiconductors or plastics to post that dumb shit on teh interwebs
There is not doubt that modern technology has it's drawbacks.
For one.
If semiconductors or plastics had not evolved I would not have had the displeasure of an encounter with you.
However.
Life is life.
By the way what have semiconductors or plastics got to do with the pain and tragedy that has beset the Japanese people?
It shouldn't matter.
Any site that has had a meltdown is a perfect location for a nuclear plant.
You can't damage severely damaged.
Build a new one on top of the old one, then you don't have to worry about the fucking environment anymore[in that area].
Fine logic.
Explosion confirmed in "suppression pool" in unit 2 ...

Ever since the quake / tsunami hit, things are getting worse, not plateauing, so we can extrapolate this crisis forward. It's almost a slam dunk at least one reactor will totally meltdown. After said explosion, this will most likely cause the other 2 reactors in crisis mode to fail and meltdown. Now your talking 3 reactors within 800 feet of each other totally out of control for the next few weeks or more continually exporting massive amounts of radiation. With Mox fuel / plutonium blown all over northern Japan ....
Look, douche bag, if we promoted at least some small measure of passive solar and wind on a neighborhood or household scale and taught some people about conservation, we wouldn't have an energy crisis.
The key to making that work is making tradeoffs, but no president is going to come out and suggest such things...
They are more into saying that the american way of life is not negotiable.
Renewables, in-play since CARTER (for C sake): Epic Fail
Ok, Ok, I'll play.
One gray is a major health problem; five will kill you about two weeks. We'll get to how much is good for you, er, margin of safety in a sec.
nanograys are billionths. So to be simplistic, these readings would need to be a billion to dose you all to Hell in an hour. On the other hand, there are 8760 hours in a year so if the readings held at say 100,000 nGy/hr for a year you'd get 0.88 gray....also not good. But hey, these readings are only a few thousand! So, no prob eh?
Well, let's say it's a gradient. There's a big debate about the 'linear no-threshold exposure model' and trust me, nuclear engineers know not one thing about the biology (yeah that means you getting ready to downplay this emergency, Jake or Jakette or whomever). If you get say 5,000 nGy/hr, that might appear to be only 5% of a 'bad dose' if you got it for a year. Or a mere .006% if it was just an hour.
Me, I say these readings by themselves are not dangerous. However, you could say that the safety margin has been eaten up to a great extent: If normal is 80, and 100,000 is very bad, then at 5,000 you have gone how far toward 'just regular bad'? Some would say 10% (holding their nose at 50,000) while others would say halfway (cringing at the thought of getting a tenth of a gray on an annualized basis).
But a gray is just an energy measure. Different elements and their characteristic radiation emissions will affect a human or a rice crop in different ways. So this is not your health information, it is just some perspective.
Cut it however you want--the public should be given no-nonsense explanations and advice, but definitely real data.
Excellent.
Not hysterical. Not panicking.
Just a simple and reasonable plea to let us know.
What the fuck is going on.
Wonder what trav7777 thinks.
Question - IF there is a defect in the big concrete vessel that is the so called last line of defense (which has been called the 'suppression chamber' and suppression pool in the recent news report, what are the implications if there is a meltdown that breaches the steel chamber that houses all the fuel rods?
**NEW FLASH** All of the 'nuclear engineers/scientist' on ZH (and all media) have been saying that everything is OK. The whole time a whole world of *hit is raining down on Fuk... Can somebody with some *alls stand up and say, maybe it is not OK. Maybe you need to start evacuating larger areas, maybe stop suppressing real time data around the plant.
Cascading chain of events -> FUBAR
Pipe down panic boy! Too much Disney channel for you. Just because a nuclear reactor is in flames is not a reason for panic, concern, or even selling Japanese futures. Got it?
do you have a feed for that fire? I am watching NHK live and not seeing anything resembling a fire
Maybe it's a slow melt? Are there various degrees of the term "meltdown"?
No problem ... but you must address me as "Fatboy" going forward ...
NHK saying readings 10,000 times normal after Unit 2 explosion. That would be in the range of 800,000 nGy/hr. See my post above for perspective.
NHK expert: "That is why they evacuated personnel....This could be the worst case scenario...We do need more accurate information at this time..."
TEPCO "cannot deny the possibility that the fuel rods may be melting"
-
Yeap
Heard it too (NHK)
Well done.
I heard something along the lines that "it" was 1000? times the daily allowance.
That's 1000 days dose in one day.
That can't be good either.
Because the body might take "x" per day and deal with it.
But "1000 x" in one day must be an entirely different matter.
Is there a simple way to describe radiation exposure levels? Like if you are exposed to this much Radiation untis for 1 hour you're def going to have serious health problems that soapy water can't fix.
I hate to be the bearer of bad technical news, but this shit is getting out of control.
Gotta love how so many of us here on ZH have been all over the Japanese Government's complete bullshit denials, while the alleged technically gifted-in-matters-of-nuclear-power-plant-design have been telling us this is a non-event.
Trav, did you get your degree in nuclear physics and nuclear engineering from Devry or Phoenix University?
Well...isn't that what fight club taught us all? Be it the words of a government, or the words of a good and crony capitalist corporation...fuck both the liars.
Today....today, the actual facts were so clear. The whole art of trying to control expectations, etc.
Like many of you, I feel for the Japanese people...but that is not my fight. My fight is with this corrupt government, our banana republic Fed, and crony capitalist corporations with their hand in the govt till stealing my sons future earnings. And to that end, let suffering cover the land until the tyranny is lifted.
As Money would say....to the pain!
listen, bitch, the world is ALWAYS ending EVERY single day TSHTF and bugout madmax to all of you people.
The sky is falling.
Shit can happen TOMORROW and it's a matter of the Japanese government hiding information yesterday. It's all a massive conspiracy.
Fuck, just BUG THE FUCK OUT already, jfc, why are you people still on teh interwebz?
You people are ALL OVER EVERY SINGLE THING ever said by ANYONE. It's ALL a fuckin conspiracy to suppress the truth, every minute of every day with everything.
"It's ALL a fuckin conspiracy to suppress the truth, every minute of every day with everything."
You have just described yourself.
HAHAHAHAHAHHA...
Me, the peak oil guy, suppressing the truth. LOL.
My god you are stupid, but in a funny way
No just fishing.
And your hatred of humanity comes from your belief in peak oil.
If it wasn't peak oil would would find another way to hate.
Trav, grow a pair.
You've been polly on the spot with this all day today.
Just open wide and swallow your crow.
No one should gloat over this, but you deserve a kick in the balls for all the shit you've been spewing on this issue, so I took the liberty.
Apparently, levels of radioactivity in the atmosphere are skyrocketing based on the latest info.
Very sad.
Yes, I got it.
If ANYONE calls you people out on your madmax fantasies, they are assumed to be proclaiming that everything is fine.
NOTHING will stand in the way of you hysterics and madmax.
Quick question...why the fuck are you still posting on the internet? Your canned ham needs dug up and you need to head for the hills.
trav says "hey, look over there"
man up moron and stop spewing shit
what the fuck do you want to see to admit you were dead wrong, a mushroom cloud over Tokyo FFS?
dead wrong on what? That you idiots shouldn't panic?
Mushroom fucking cloud LOL
BUG OUT NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Don't take the time to reply, dig up the spam and the silver and RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
When someone pisses fluorescent orange urine on trav's chin and tells him it's raining, he'll come around.
