Germany Sends Three Warships To Libya
As we pointed out yesterday, while the US navy is seriously starting to amass in the Persian Gulf region, it has left the Mediterranean and more importantly, the Libyan coastline unguarded. With concerns that Gaddafi will follow through with what we speculated on Monday was a Saddam-like "after me the flood" act and burn his oil facilities, this may not be the most prudent thing. Luckily, here comes Germany. According to Spiegel, Germany has sent three warships to Libya which may possibly get involved in a "military engagement."

The German Navy has sent three ships of the operations and training association in 2011 in the maritime area between Malta and the Libyan coast.
The Spiegel Online reports akutell. The three ships are the supplier "Berlin" and the frigate 'Brandenburg and Rheinland-Pfalz. "Overall, the ships will have about 600 soldiers on board.
As Spiegel Online report on the EU takes in an emergency, a military engagement in Libya considered. The news magazine refers back to an unnamed diplomats.

Colnel, India has been recently tested (I'm totally serious) with 2$ a Kg. Onion. That is huge, 5 years ago, governments would have collapsed. Now prices trending down, but it was a totally manipulated price rise.
Also, a whole lot seperationist movements are creating trouble (mostly Maoist, chinese or outside influence funded).
And the political sphere is a huge mess with a lot of scams coming to surface, scapegoating etc.
So, while lot's of local MSM hyping about shining, success etc. reality on the ground is just the opposite.

It seems to be universal, that with every gain in comfort, there is a loss of understanding as to what's really important in life. The line between want and need has been obliterated. but another scenario goes:
Must eliminate "suspected " (based on the best "available info" from "enhanced interrogation"),
"domestic terrorist leaders" and their "reported supporters".
Any "collateral damage", however "tragic", is an "acceptable risk" that cannot be avoided.

Personally served in a half dozen special operations units. This might happen under only the most extreme and hard-to-imagine scenarios. Other than that, those giving the "order" better watch out because this simply will not occur.
One thing we do have going for us is that soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines is that they are volunteers. They come from all around us and maintain their relationships to home, family, etc.
What is more likely to happen is a disintegration of unit cohesion (both military and civil police) with the "Rambos" operating on their own agenda.

You should enlist then. This will give you first hand experience. Military men unprone to shoot on civilians and ready to do something to prevent it are vastly outnumbered by military men who dont care and military men who are eager of shooting on civilians.

It's been a while since I realized draft times were over.
Draft was an ugly thing but it drew people from all walks of life, including people who were not that eager of adopting a military vision of life.
Today, people join the military by choice. It makes a huge difference.
Mostly four dominant groups in the military.
-gang members who want military trainings. Not that well screened out. But small number all in all.
-religious warriors on a crusade
-sadists who feel they are oppressed in civilized countries as they can not express their true self
-people looking for military benefits (healthcare, tuition, prestige...)
People who joined the military with other goals are suppressed because they are a minority.
Better to be aware of the environment. Potentially a life saver.
As to what happens in good times when they come back in society, it is nothing as long as they can do nothing.
Restraining is a false idea. There is no restraining. If they do not act, it is because they cant. Once the gates are opened, dont expect the military to behave.

You presume there is going to be some rational decision making process. In all likelihood, there will not need to be. For example, if a particular town gets infected with disease X (unbeknownst to the feet on the ground that it was actually designed by the military), then it is their moral duty to help ensure the safety of surrounding towns and persons by exterminating said city... you can extrapolate from here... but, make no mistake, the plain vanilla order to shoot is probably not what we're going to be faced with... it will be marred in many other considerations...

I agree that the probable majority of our military has deep respect for the republic and for civilian leadership. The Air Force Sniper I know knows more about the constitution and current events than almost all of my civilian friends.
My point is, however, that along with this respect, the military indoctrinates its members to feel that it is superior to US citizens not involved in the military and that they are expendable if they conflict with the current regime's interests. There are a few agreements like that (armed incursion) between countries when there's cross border drugs/arms trafficking that bothers both countries. It is restricted to a few kilometers/miles including air support/pursuit under certain condition (defined area, far from cities, etc).
