Germany Sends Three Warships To Libya

Tyler Durden's picture

As we pointed out yesterday, while the US navy is seriously starting to amass in the Persian Gulf region, it has left the Mediterranean and more importantly, the Libyan coastline unguarded. With concerns that Gaddafi will follow through with what we speculated on Monday was a Saddam-like "after me the flood" act and burn his oil facilities, this may not be the most prudent thing. Luckily, here comes Germany. According to Spiegel, Germany has sent three warships to Libya which may possibly get involved in a "military engagement."

From MSN.de:

The German Navy has sent three ships of the operations and training association in 2011 in the maritime area between Malta and the Libyan coast.

The Spiegel Online reports akutell. The three ships are the supplier "Berlin" and the frigate 'Brandenburg and Rheinland-Pfalz. "Overall, the ships will have about 600 soldiers on board.

As Spiegel Online report on the EU takes in an emergency, a military engagement in Libya considered. The news magazine refers back to an unnamed diplomats.

Since when the Knight in the Shining Armour, the US, is compelled by the treacherous French?

The US only acts according to its will.

But dilution of responsibility is a good thing.

Fertile for fantasists.

actually, the US did fly around france in order to respect their wishes. We could have overflown if we wanted, but it wasn't worth getting their panties in a knot.   How do you recognize a french tank? Easy- they have headlights in the rear and come with a three speed reverse...

Indeed, the naval forces of the USA are, as we speak, protecting the world against the mighty Iranian armada that has traversed the Suez Canal to terrorize the Eastern Med and our plucky little ally.

Thanks for linking to Dr. Rokke's seminar. I watched the whole presentation. Good stuff.

I've worked as a hazardous materials specialist and on Superfund remediation sites for the past 10 years or so.

How convenient for the military-industrial complex to discover a very cost-effective way to dispose of their nuclear waste through the use of depleted uranium (U238). They dumped 350 TONS of the shit on the birthplace of civilization.

If a government has the ability and wherewithall to knowingly and willfully contaminate their own soldiers through the use of U238 munitions, one must ask themselves what other radiological or chemical weapons they would be willing to use against us.

Anyway, thanks for the links.

I am pro sending shipments of grenades and M16's and just let them genocide themselves.

It's not our place to interfere if thats what they want.

Then when they've finished the job we can just send in Shell/Exxon.

I was expecting a send the planes to bomb them kind of approach since that's what all the yanks want.

Actually I think they prefer the planes as methods of murder. And look, they are the ones who committ suicide blowing their own people up. This is what they want. If we just gave everyone in the ME a gun we would finally have peace in the ME for decades.

This Yank wants to go with the original statement -- stay out of it and let them kill each other.  Helping out either way is worse PR, and there's plenty of oil on our own continent if the hippies will let us get to it.

For a region that didn't register to the US pretty much AT ALL until the 20s, we've spent a lot of time, money, and goodwill fighting shadows where we're not wanted.  Bennie et al want a recovery -- no better way to do that than start drilling at home and let the rest of the world worry about MidEast oil.....

If you think that shale is a neat & tidy little operation w/no consequences in regards to its extraction, I'd say you should go out and live on some land where they extract that stuff, and tell me how you like it after a long enough time?

Didn't say it was neat or tidy, just that there's plenty of it here for exploitation.

We have to cut the tie to MidEast madness ASAP; starting sooner gets us free quicker than starting later.  Teddy Kennedy doesn't want to look out his back yard and see rigs (paraphrasing the bay windfarm)?  Too bad.....

Lived in a drilling area growing up -- not a big deal; it was all farmland anyway.  So a 1/2 acre gets "spoiled" to pull up the Tea.  Beats having farmers grow corn on the same plot of land to burn away as fuel that is <60% as efficient.....

Thu, 02/24/2011 - 13:38 | 993725 Incubus
Incubus's picture

I was referring to the extraction process of shale and its tendency to contaminate ground/drinking water.  Land isn't any good for anything if there's no usable water to support it--and drinkable water is set to become the most valuable commodity by the end of this century.

The yanks of yesterday, perhaps...when we were all sufficiently duped by the mantra that we were projecting power abroad for the sake of 'freedom' and to liberate oppressed peoples. Who wouldn't want to be noble knights riding stallions into the fray, slaying demonic evil beasts while rescuing people in distress?

Sadly, many of us realize most of this fantasy turned out to be just that...fantasy. The average American still see ourselves as the 'good guys', and on an individual level, we mostly are. Unfortunately, that noble sentiment is all too frequently twisted into serving the interests of the global bankster elites who seek to run the show, whether by pen or by unwitting mercenary sword.

Pull our boys and girls out of the middle-eastern meat-grinder and bring them all back stateside, and for God's sake protect the continental U.S. border from the ongoing invasion of third-worlders who know nothing but aristocratic oligarchies/dictatorships, and are thus predisposed to willingly live under such governance.

I know, I know...to dream the impossible dream.

The USN has always produced some of the best recruitment ads. I recall one commercial back in the mid-1980's (around the time that I joined the USN) where they used a lot of live fire exercise clips.

Something like this:

Missile Operations off the Coast of Hawaii

cue multiple guided-missile warship scene and "general quarters" alarm

surface-to-air missiles being rapidly prepped and loaded on rail systems for launch

combat information center scene and fire control with keys being inserted

multiple missile launch scene

The Navy. It's not just a job. It's an adventure.

Libya doesn't even crack our top-15 oil imports by national origin (as of Nov 2010).  Germany/Italy and the rest of the EU have a much bigger dog in this fight.  I'm sure keeping the 5th Fleet's home port from melting into a chaotic soup is slightly higher on our list of things to do today.

I saw three ships come sailing in
On Raging Freedom day, on Raging Freedom day;
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Raging Freedom day in the morning.

And what was in those ships all three,
On Raging Freedom day, on Raging Freedom day;
And what was in those ships all three,
On Raging Freedom day in the morning.

Hobnailed boots and birthing clinics,
On Raging Freedom day, on Raging Freedom day;
Hobnailed boots and birthing clinics,
On Raging Freedom day in the morning.

The best navy movie in the world was Moby Dick  followed by 'twenty thousand leagues...', 'mutiny on the bounty' followed by 'Caine mutiny', followed by 'red October'. But my last choice is obviously debatable like the rest. The english movie 'battle of river plate' was a classic. Long live the great white whale and the tiger shark!
