Gold, Silver And Oil As Market Yet To Price In Armageddon

Tyler Durden's picture

Judging by the incomprehensible action in both WTI and gold, both of which are surging, it appears the stock market may not have priced in the full impact of Bernanke's Put on the Armageddon. And after all, what disaster, man made or otherwise, can not be circumvented through the printing of a few [...]illion in new linen-cotton forms of monetary exchange.

....it appears the stock market may not have priced in the full impact of Bernanke's Put on the Armageddon.

Perhaps because Bernanke and Company never wanted the market to price in reality. Or at least not price in anything other than the reality dictated by Bernanke and Company.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

Of course they don't want to price in reality.  Doing so would result in them all being taken down to reality- they'd actually have to to REAL work (get real jobs) in order to live!

It seems the JPMorgue knew the silver price was going to take off, because they just received fasttrack approval to gain a vault license for storing and taking delivery of gold/silver/platinum/palladium from NYMEX/COMEX.

Does this mean they'll be able to "make and take delivery" of their own silver shorts?

basically:

4 And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men should slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.

5 And when He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, "Come." And I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand.

6 And I heard as it were a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine."

7 And when He broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, "Come."

8 And I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. And authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.

 9 And when He broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained;

10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, wilt Thou refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"

11 And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, should be completed also.

 12 And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood;

13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind.

14 And the sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

 15 And the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains;

 16 and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;

17 for the great day of their wrath has come; and who is able to stand?"

CD,

The reason why is the tables were in the Outer Court, the Gentile section.(Gentile first, Jewish womens section next, then Jewish men,  then the Holy of Holies.

People had to travel from all over to make their sacrifices , and those that could not bring an animal, had to buy one at the Temple, and they were  charging the people 10-20x's the going rate for a sheep, or a pigeon, or whatever animal one could afford.

They were Usurers.

And they were thieves doing their evil deeds in GODS house.

This the reason for Jesus wrath, and anger.

That's all true, but wrt the "moneychangers", I've heard also that any monetary offerings had to be made in the local currency as the temple would not accept Roman coins. The currencies were exchanged by the moneychangers at a similarly outrageous premium to the actual PM content of the coins.

I wonder if Jesus would advocate for a cruel, survival-of-the-fittest, anarcho-capitalist, purist libertarian society?

Or if he'd be compassionate with the weak, poor and down-trodden, and treat his neighbor as himself?  Could Jesus be a socialist?

It's such a wonderful bit of irony and hypocrisy when a purist libertarian claims to be a Christian, as well.

Anarchism isn't about survival of the fittest, it is about survival of the most cooperative.  Governments of all types are about centralization of power.

Jesus, if such a man/God did exist, would want to maximize good for all men, which is exactly what the free market does.

I thought you were leaving?  Why are you still here?

Your idealistic and utopian versions of anarchism may have worked well in a pre-lapsarian world, or in an Amish community, or on a Little House on the Prairie episode, but not in the modern, real world of endless greed and oppression.

You are a fool.  Where, EXACTLY do you think the oppression comes from?  They guys trying to sell you goods in exchange for money, or the governments who threaten with guns anyone who dares to defy their legislation?

Wed, 03/23/2011 - 13:54 | 1091037 Mark McGoldrick
Mark McGoldrick's picture

For you to think that governments are the source of oppression is proof that your brain has been drenched in libertarian Kool-Aid.

Blaming government for the oppression of people is a bit like blaming the bullet for killing someone. It's people who oppress people. If you take away government or the Fed, plutocratic greed and self-interest don't vanish with it. Our government is merely the most convenient and efficient manner for our plutocrats to ensure their power while sedating the masses with the illusion of representation. At least you have some voice and some opportunity to be heard.  If you take away our government or our Fed, the den of thieves will operate with even more power. Then, eventually, they'll create another form of centralized power that keeps everyone perfectly sedated and the hamster wheel spinning.

The realistic end-game to libertarian ideology is the exact form of government we have today, which is why I find libertarianism so funny and wonderfully ironic.   While libertarians rant so passionately against our government, they are unwittingly preaching an ideology that would create exactly what we have today.  *LOL*

Wed, 03/23/2011 - 14:13 | 1091231 tmosley

Yes, people oppress people.  But they do so by getting a monopoly on violence for themselves.  We call this monopoly on violence a government.

Get rid of the monopoly, and you get rid of the primary tool of oppression.

Look, you don't know what you are talking about.  You just do a bunch of mental contortions to try to prove that libertarianism is something it isn't.  Get the fuck out.  You aren't wanted.

Wed, 03/23/2011 - 14:22 | 1091285 Mark McGoldrick

The only reason you find my posts to be "mental contortions" is because your libertarian mind can't flex, bend or absorb anything outside your one-dimensional echo chamber.  Your brain has been soaked in libertarian Kool-Aid, put out to dry, then fossilized to stone.

I'm just being logical, and your struggle with that is very fitting.

Sorry... this is ignorance talking here... clearly you've got NO understanding of what anarchism really is.

Anarchism isn't a libertarian innovation: they did, however, "borrow" it.

THE primary tenet is that power should NOT be concentrated.  Very few people would stand up and proclaim that power doesn't corrupt, in which case the logic of limiting power is easy enough to follow.  The founders of the US Constitution clearly warned of these troubles.

I tend to side with libertarians because they are the only ones that come close to getting things right: I think there are big holes, but there's enough there that makes sense, a LOT more than other party-type political offerings.

Jesus is brought into this discussion, which I kind of appreciate, as he* pretty much approximated an anarchist, challenging power everywhere.

* I'm not convinced such a person existed, but this doesn't matter so much as the guidelines that were made available through the stories of this character's life.

I differ with the libertarians in that I don't believe that the private sector can be any more pious than the public one, that, given the opportunity by men, there would end up being consolidated, oppressive powers (this is kind of what you're stating).  I disagree, therefore, with both sides of the coin here.  I side with libertarians in the way that Evangelical Christians "side" with Jews- means to an end...  I put more faith in the power of individuals than institutions.  And, lastly, who does nature operate?  I'd argue that it, too, more closely approximates anarchism than anything else: the saying "diversity is the spice of life" is a phrase worth remembering (govts tend to homogenize, as do big corporations).

That's not kind of what I'm stating.

That's exactly what I'm stating.

I understand exactly what anarchism is, and I've said repeatedly in various threads that it's impossible given the nature of man.  Perhaps before the Garden of Eden fiasco or in Amish communities, anarchism would work - but not in the real world given the nature of mankind.

Our government is the only buffer between total tyrannical oppression by the plutocrats and the utterly lopsided society that we have today. If someone wants a precedent of what society would look like without a centralized government, try pursuing the freedom and liberty that Somalia has to offer.

Arrogance much?

And just how does the current political status-quo deal with the sociopaths?  I will tell you how ---  by rewarding them in direct measure to their sociopathy.  And it is able to reward them precisely because of the power that our governments have confiscated from the individual and concentrated within their own hands.  Without the power of the State, potential mass sociopaths would be nothing more than strange neighbors who torture small animals, instead of torturing society at large.

This is why sociopaths and ponerists of all stripes tend to concentrate within government as opposed to the business world --- because that is where most of the true power is.

Lots of purdy words.... yet you fail to explain how the maximum degree of individual liberty must ultimately result in slavery. Bueller... Bueller..

Your argument lacks basic logic. Given any group of free individuals who voluntarily cooperate with each other and trade, oppression becomes impossible. If a restaurant decides that they will only serve boiled chicken breasts and asparagus tips because it is good for you, you have the option, as a free individual, to choose a different restaurant. If this is the only restaurant in town, a free individual will seize the opportunity and open a new restaurant creating competition and eventually bankrupting the offending restaurant (or forcing it to return to cooking food the customers truly want).

Once you insert the brute force of government, you get the fat free restaurant donating election funds to the politician and the bought politician passing laws (with the threat of violence for failure to comply) that either force you to eat at the fat free restaurant restaurant, making it impossible to a new restaurant to open, or forcing all restaurants into the same fare. The free market system is a meritocracy. Government, by definition is tyranny.

attempt to quote the bible?  I didn't mean to turn this into a religious/theology debate.  I made a comment about that particular episode with Jesus and the moneychangers.  There are many who go around quoting the bible and not have the slightest clue as to what the bible represents nor have they actually done any research to find out exactly what it is they are reading, research any other forms of theology and/or ancient texts.  I'll drop that subject, that's not for this blog.

As to what "side" I am on?  Unfortunately this is one of the reasons we are in this fucked state of the world we are in.  If people only did just a teeny tiny bit of research they would see just how intertwined religion, politics, education and money were.  If you were to go back and read all of the posts I have made, you would quickly find out if I'm hypocritical or not and what "side" I am on.  That's unfortunate you took offense to quote I posted.

Isn't Brent Crude the true standard in oil pricing?

WTF with WTI

Wed, 03/23/2011 - 11:33 | 1090417 flattrader
flattrader's picture

It lagged Brent and the regular contract going into the crisis until speculators noticed they could run it up too.

WTI is refined for use primarily in the US Midwest...which is awash in gasoline due to lack of demand.

It is pure theft...a transfer of wealth to the specs.

Many midwesterners have started to curtail their driving and discretionary spending.

Wed, 03/23/2011 - 12:19 | 1090692 Flakmeister
Flakmeister's picture

It's a bit more complicated than that... The existing pipeline infrastructure favors delivery to Cushing, esp. Alberta Syncrude which the refiners love because of the spreads. It is difficult to arb out the Brent-WTI spread because of capacity constraints in rail etc.. My recollection is that turning WTI quality into Brent deliverable costs $7.50 in transportation costs...Any refiner capable of storing discounted WTI is only interested in exploiting the crack spreads using the relative cost of WTI to Brent..

Finished product prices reflect Brent pricing not WTI...

BTW, you are aware that Net Oil Exports in the World are down ~8-10% since 2005?

you'd think the silver futures price would be jacking up based on this lack of delivery on 4.3MM oz for the March month. But nothing. WTF is going on? Are they going to default the crimex on April 1st as an april fools day joke on all silver longs? "force majeure! you're fucked! april fools!" I dont get it. Maybe they will just cover shorts or lift their asks on the last day of the month and let silver trade to $45 - $50 to induce enough selling to get their hands on physical to meet the delivery requirement. Hard to figure out. 4.3MM oz to deliver with 7 trading days left in the month

or should i say jack the price to $$60 - $70 and THEN offer additional premium on top of that to cash settle the march deliveries. which wouldnt work. the march long holders want the real stuff. if they dont get their real stuff i have a feeling a shitload of treasuries are going to hit the market somewhere. either way, SOMEbody is going to get fucked...

No problem.  JPM will just 'Deliver' the silver to their own vaults as they are now entitled to do, and claim that everything is therefore fine.

Anyone wanting their metal will then most likely be faced with weeks/months of incomprehensible shipping delays due to the 'Teething problems' with getting the delivery processes bedded in from the new vault, giving The Morgue that much more time to scrounge physical metal from the markets.

Hey Bazooka, I'm also an EWT guy, but I think Prechter's analysis is dead wrong.  He thinks gold's move from 11/2008 (~700 nominal price) to present level (~1400 nominal price) is a B corrective way. Look at a chart and you'll see he's absolutely wrong.  The move is clearly impulsive.  And with the backdrop of QE to infinity, common sense has to tell you to ditch Prechter's analysis.
