Goldman Sachs Principal Transactions Update: 613 Million Shares
Program Trading on the NYSE dropped substantially in the prior week, presumably as a function of a volume hobbled market (which has been the case since March more or less), declining by roughly 25% across both total PT and principal. And while there is no question who the undisputed leader in principal program trading is (and always will be), Morgan Stanley is consistently climbing higher, hitting 127 million principal shares and 481 million total. Of course, until MS becomes a full fledged SLP participant (which will never get the full endorsement and blessing of Goldman), its principal PT share will likely continue languishing at between 25-30% Goldman's total.
Per conversations with the NYSE, expect disclosure in early September on who, if any, new entrants into the SLP program are. Based on continuing principal PT data, Goldman can be safe in that it will be picking rebates, and being a "voluntary" market market, with unspecificed balance sheet and risk tolerance requirements, for years to come.

In all seriousness, does Blankfein ever read NYT reports, especially by Gretchen Morgensen, about insider deals between him and Paulson becoming more and more public? CG definitely seems to be on Goldman's bankroll now with all the Goldman apologies.

well, that's pretty good thinking. the federales are rolling out a new program today. the cash for clunkers gig has ended, but monday brings the 'vacations for jobs.' trade in your job and get a 1-year vacation (of course you have to put it on your own debt but you get a huge rebate).
