Goldman SEC Settlement Vote Split Along Party Lines

Tyler Durden's picture

Reuters reports that democrats vote for settlement; republicans against. Is the president starting to miss all that Goldman lobby cash? Alas, it might be a little too late for kiss and make up.

seems like the only time either party does something right is when they do it just to spite or go against the other party....

One regular guest commentator on CNBC was going batshit about what a ripoff, fraud and scam has been played on the American taxpayer just after the annoucement. They were trying to talk over that shit, of course.

Now everybody involved who bought off cheap on the settlement will have the hounds of the internet on their case for a long season, wondering what quid pro quo was offered along with half-a-loaf settlement. $550MM doesn't come close to the loss or the real damage. It's not so different from a "cap" on oil spill damages. As B'rer Rabbit told B'rer Fox, please don't throw me in that briar patch!

Why did the Republicans vote against the settlement? Because it allowed GS to get off too easy, or because it was a "corporate shakedown" like BP?

Republicans voted against because democrats voted for. Had Democrats voted against, then Republicans would have voted for. But don't worry, a few months from now republicans may have the majority and the roles will reverse. Washington is such a big fucking joke.

You dig deep enough and you'll find a pony in all the bullshit!!  Head-in-hand, I can only repeat what I reported on June 4th 2010. "I feel shameful, and I am guilty, for not coming forward with what has been passed to me from the geological community, and a few geo-petro specialists with inside information. It appears BP has always known they cannot stop this rupture. At best August, but many are now thinking early 2011."    Jul 15, 2010 - 12:15:17 PM    http://www.earthchangesmedia.com/index.php    Paid site but so much shuffling!  Diggin deep to find jewels still holds for discovering truth!!  How else you enter the temple of wisdom!???  Keep diggin; swimmin through the deluge of sewage!  Keep you noses above the sewage line and don't let the rat bastards drown you when the abandon ship!!

Reuters reports that democrats vote for settlement; republicans against.

No doubt this was agreed upon before any vote took place between politicians , rendering the vote irrelevant.  Its the same show as always.

Consider this proof that the Republicans feel there is no GOP bridge to Goldman to burn.

Sleep on that one.

now we will see a hundred posts repeating the same old tired mantras that all politicans are the same, dems no different than republicans, obama same as bush, right?

cause many of you guys cant see a difference.

Sure there are differences between the democrats and republicans, but those of us who care about the economy and understand how perilous the situation is, have no one to vote for.  Neither side will do what's right.  To many of us, that's the biggest issue, and there are no differences in that sense.

Republicans = Democrats for all things that matter for main street. Both are traitors. You only feel one side is caring and main street friendly when they are not in the majority at Washington. Give them a majority and both parties are fuckers...literally fucking main street.

If my memory serves me right, republicans voted against suing Goldman. And now they are voting against $550 mil because it is too little?! Does this make sense?

The best way to predict the future of what any political outcome will be regardless of party lines is and always will be " How best can we fuck mom and pop, the entire middle class, future generations for our own coffers and serve the least amount of justice"

That is now the epitome of the American political and judicial structure. I pledge allegiance to my wallet and all corporations who can stick their funnels into the veins of the American cattle while we pretend we are doing them a favor.

On May 8, I made the following prediction on an the Zero hedge posting

"Here Are The Critical Credit/Liquidity Indicators To Keep A Watch For In The Coming Week."

Those who followed me made money.

================================================

GS playbook:

  1. Allow SEC to accuse us of fraud and other stuff.
  2. Let GS stock go down
  3. Run down the market this week with a little scare.
  4. While taking market down push Treasuries up to burn all the Tbill shorts
  5. Buy GS calls (though proxy) up the kazoo Wednesday before options expiration.
  6. Be exonerated or pay a token fine on Thursday before expiration
  7. Make up 10X of the fine and trouble.

That may not happen in the May expirations

And yes! I bought 3k of out of the money June calls, and if I am right, they will be worth 50k-100k

And yes! I can afford to loose 3K

============================================

It did not happen in June and i repeated the exercice in July

I suspect that it was the SEC that was eager to settle this deal.  They really had about a Zero case here.  the buyers of the Abacus deal specifically asked for a deal like this as they needed YIELD to support their flakey SIVs.  they also knew exactly what was in the deal, it did not matter who put it together.  Goldman settled to get out of a show trial by paying tribute.  OBammie gets to make another speech about screwing businesses so he is happy.  It adds to the stash that he is giving away.

I don't get it.  The SEC vote to bring case against GS was split along party lines; Socialists (d.b.a. Democrats) for, Spineless Morons (d.b.a. Republicans) against.  Now the vote for settlement is split in the reverse?  W.T.F.?

I don't see the logic underlying this.

What kind of country votes to prosecute a case or not?

There is evidence or not, rule of law says if there is evidence it should be prosecuted to the full of extent of the law. Wether the law should be applied or not according to political decision means law has no meaning.

If they have evidence of a person committing a murder do they vote on along political lines, to give a fine, let them off or prosecute the letter of the law?

No wonder the US is ruined. Law doesn't really exist, it is a mirage. It exists only for small people. But the biggest criminals, those who have committed treason against the country are allowed off because of political decsions.

No wonder people are giving up on the politic institutions, have had enough of Democrat and Republican politics and have no respect for the office office of President. All of it systemical corrupt and diseased.
