Google Announces China Is Now Partially Blocking Mobile Services

Tyler Durden's picture

China may have just taken the first retaliatory step against Google, after the search enginge decided to relocated its service out of Hong Kong. As the website created by Google to keep track of Mainland China service availability indicates, mobile services for the first time have become partially blocked on March 28.

As the FT confirms, "The availability of its mobile service has started to “fluctuate”, and
it was unclear whether this would continue or whether it was a direct
response to its move last week, the US internet company said."

By targeting mobiles, the authorities appeared to aimed at services
that many observers believe hold the greatest long-term potential for
reaching China’s booming internet population, thanks to the growth of
mobile internet access. The partial blocking has hit all of the
services that Google delivers to mobile phones, including search.

By
contrast, the company continued to report on Monday that its search,
news and image services for PC users, all of which were moved to Hong
Kong last week, had not suffered any outright blocking. Google also
said that its YouTube and Blogger services continued to be blocked in
China, as they had been before its shift on censorship.

As a reminder, April 15 is the deadline by which Timmy G must brand China a currency traitor or some other stupidity. Should this happen, the US should create a chart comparable to the one above which indicates which products China has not yet blocked trade in.

It's easy to demonize China for this action because they are communists and scary.  Right?  Justify the pressures that Obama is putting on Japan to open up its insurance market for the US insurance companies that are going to take a hit on healthcare.  Or the unfair competition of the Japan Post Bank.  Or using the Toyota incident as leverage to force Japan to buy US beef...which the Japanese people do not want.

It seems there are fascists everywhere poking their noses where they don't belong. Right?

Actually they want beef but only the ones they define as safe to eat, not the bundle the US is forcing on them.

[they want each animal tested, while the US only does a sparse sample test]

Exactly.  The beef industry sees it as a trade issue.  The Japanese see it as a health issue.  After 2003, and all of the beef recalls in the US since then, who can blame them.

I thought Team Obama was demonizing Toyota so people would buy GM and Chrysler cars, seeing how they are owned by the Treasury and Obama's union buddies.

When will the western world learn that whilst in somebody else's country, one obeys thier laws?  No conceviable (and fully understandable)way any foreign power wants Google's information cataloging inside thier domain.  Except of course, for the western power elite, for whom it serves as a tool of social informational control.

You forgot the exception of every other civilized country on the planet, who, apparently, don't care if their people visit youtube.

no one reads Google's privacy information (that varies with each individual product) and for the few that do, most fail to recognize the caveats that Google includes, which basically allow them to store a users ip and internet activity forever regardless of the status of their Google account eg deleted account etc...

Google's non-Chinese gmail servers appear to be down too.  DDoS attack directed by Chinese ministry of "information"???  When does a cyber attack become an overt act of war?

For you illiterate idiots.

Fascism term comes from the Latin language. It means sovereignty and national pride. Sound good.

In 1930s, this also meant an anti-Jewish gangster-communism movement (which was responsible in the Soviet Union for more than 40 millions slaughtered and starved to death innocent soviet citizens. Please do not blame Stalin for everything since he was a minor player in Lenin's coup d'etat. Granted, Stalin was the major player starting the WWII).

In 1930s, fascism was also associated with totalitarian socialist states like Nazi Germany and Mussolini Italy.

I wonder when Baidu will roll out US version and kick googles ass here. I would rather have the snoops in China than Washington/Mountain View/NSA.

Go Baidu!
