GOP Leader Calls Goldman "Obama's Top Wall Street Ally" Asks "Just Whose Side Is President Obama On?"

Boehner Statement on SEC Charges Against Goldman Sachs, President Obama’s Top Wall Street Ally

GOP Leader: “Despite President Obama’s rhetoric, his permanent bailout bill gives Goldman Sachs and other big Wall Street banks a permanent, taxpayer-funded safety net by designating them ‘too big to fail.’

Washington, Apr 16 -

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the U.S. Securities & Exchanges Commission (SEC) announced it was charging Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs – which has been supportive of President Obama’s bill to create a permanent bailout fund – with defrauding investors:

“These are very serious charges against a key supporter of President Obama’s bill to create a permanent Wall Street bailout fund.  Despite President Obama’s rhetoric, his permanent bailout bill gives Goldman Sachs and other big Wall Street banks a permanent, taxpayer-funded safety net by designating them ‘too  big to fail.’  Just whose side is President Obama on?

“Instead of permanent bailouts for President Obama’s Wall Street allies, Republicans believe the best way to protect taxpayers is by reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that sparked the meltdown by giving high-risk loans to people who couldn’t afford it.”

NOTE: Goldman Sachs was President Obama’s top Wall Street contributor during the 2008 election cycle, donating nearly $1 million to his campaign.

Of course it will give lots of fuel to the Punch and Judy show in Washington, but both sides are sponsored and bank rolled by the banks, the Treasury and those behind the Fed, so this is all lip service to prop up their little 'divid and conquer' sham.

We need an independent outside party to sweep away the two 'cola' parties, and give America a really great fresh new start, and change we really can believe in.

Ron Paul may or may not be that man, but someone with his clarity of how the economy is works is going to be key. I'd vote for Tyler, Reggie or Simon Johnson before any of the Rep/Dem Incs scamsters.

Look, I have precisely no love for Boehner (though I admit to loathing Pelosi) - but what, precisely, has he said here that's not factual?

Not for nothing, but the Fed.Gov's timing of this (isn't this an option expiration day?), that it was a civil and not criminal charge, and the target (going after the most hated banksters) all smacks of cheap political soylent green for the unwashed, no?

If we start seeing suits marched out of 200 West in leg-irons, I'm all to happy to change my opinion.  Until then, this is all about politics, so we can expect the red team to play the game as well (and as poorly).

This is about control. Did Goldman really think they were going to get out from under the Bamsta's thumb just because they gave him a mil? The master's of wall st. have been one-uped! Bet they never saw it coming...

Sure they saw it coming - they were tipped off a couple of days ago and probably made about 7-figures on Friday shorting their own stock.

You have the relationship exactly backward - as Goldman will show when they orchestrate a take-down of the market just in time to pad to the likely gains Team Red was already expected to make in the CONgressional circus this November.

Never forget who works for whom in this "free-market" "capitalist" system.

Nah Obama is relatively safe here. Criticism of Obama usually results in knee jerk criticism of a Republican.

This site is not of the blame Bush ilk but ther is alot of "Both parties are the same." As if there is not a STARK difference between Paul Ryan and Barney Frank. Or of Ron Paul and Chris Dodd.

You're talking about individuals, not parties. Ron Paul is the exception, not the rule. He is much more of a Libertarian than a Republican (he's a member of both parties, AFAIK).

There are plenty who defend Obama here, for some reason, but there are also more who criticize him.

If you don't see that both R & D parties essentially embrace the same types of pro-big-government, middle-class-milking policies, I would suggest putting down the bottomless cup of kool-aid.

Exactly. The problem is, while there may be many individual reps in BOTH parties who have good intentions, neither party QUA PARTY will ever go against the money stream.

BTW, where do you see anyone defending Obama here? The last time I saw someone even argue that we should still "give him a chance" was probably April or May 2009.

I, for one, will predict that Obama will coddle all his little boyfriends on Wall Street with this Bill.

He will give them TBTF status. Laws and market forces are for little people.

Of course I agree with what he says, but the problem is what is he going to do. I hope the public is tired of being pulled this way and then the other way just to find out that both sides are the same in terms of deciet and corruption. If we could trust the words they utter then this problem would have been solved a long time ago. Unfortunately the hypocriticians are like used car salesman, they will say anything to make the sale.

Really? The Banks are using profits to pay for their Lobby? not the 0% Fed Window?

**** "In the first three months of 2009, the financial sector spent $104.7 million to lobby Congress and the administration, down 8% from the same period last year" ****

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124640640747376775.html

So that I am clear... 2008 was a vintage year for Banks? they made soooooooooooooooooooooo much money on 2008 that in the first 3 months of 2009... they could drop $104.7 MILLION DOLLARS?

There are no dem's or Rep's... just the lobby and the dollars used to steer the ship into running over the American Poor 1st, Middle 2nd and the last push into the credit line is the upper middle... where the noise is deafening...

The people, the educated people... with time, monies and thusly a voice are being herd.. (pun) The push now will be to segment the educated offensive into different camps... let them (them being, us) fight with ourselves over whatever will divide us the most.

Boner is the biggest douchebag of them all.

Yeah, whose side is Obama on, creating a bail out fund similar to the FDIC where the capital is supplied by banks. What a terrible thing, you know, to finance your own insurance for when you fuck up, and tax payers dont have to shell out money.

The day Boner comes out in support of tighter regulation will be the day he doesn't go to the tanning booth.

For those with short memories who don't think there is a difference between parties let's review the tarp bailout.  Quoting from Wiki:

"That same day, the legislation for the bailout was put before the United States House of Representatives and failed 205-228, with one not voting. Democrats voted 140 to 95 in favor of the legislation, while Republicans voted 133 to 65 against."

So, let's be clear on this bailout point.  The party of Jefferson voted against any bailout, but the party of Hamilton loves big banks as the Federalists/democrats/statists/fascists always have.  Unfortunately, those 65 Repubs need to be purged and replaced with true liberatarians which we'll do this Nov.  Socialists love bankers since they facilicate funding their spending/debt.  As Rand so profoundly understood, the struggle is always between the collective and the individual.  Everything else is a distraction for the second raters/sheepy.
